Abstract
BACKGROUND Recently, recommendations were given for a new scoring of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP). The original seven domain structure should be replaced by a four-dimensional scale. OBJECTIVES To investigate the effect of dental prosthetic treatment on the seven domains and the four-dimensional scale of the OHIP-G49/53 questionnaire. METHODS Seventy four patients were grouped according their pre- and post-treatment situation and the type of treatment they received. Patients completed the OHIP-G49/53 questionnaire before prosthetic treatment (T0), and at 1 week (T1), 3 months (T2) and 6 months (T3) after treatment. Treatment effects on the seven domains and the four dimensions of the OHIP scale were analysed, and the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) was measured. Patients' expectations of their prosthetic treatment were also evaluated. Data were analysed using two-way Mixed ANOVA, regression analysis, and Cronbach's alpha test with a level of significance of α ≤ .017. RESULTS OHRQoL significantly improved following prosthetic treatment compared with baseline. The largest improvement was found between T0 and T1 evaluations (all p ≤ .001). Unlike the seven-domain scale, the four OHIP dimensions demonstrated further significant improvements across the T1/T2/T3 evaluations (all p ≤ .017). Different pre-treatment findings had different treatment effects on the four OHIP dimensions and seven OHIP domains. Patients' expectations were mainly fulfilled. CONCLUSION Compared with the seven-domain scale, the four dimensions showed significant follow-up changes, suggesting the four dimensions are suitable for evaluating treatment effects up to 6 months. Clinically meaningful effects of dental prosthetic treatment can be sensitively measured using the four-dimensional OHIP scale.

Abstract
Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw results in extensive excision and proves challenging to rehabilitate prosthetically. This article describes the prosthodontic rehabilitation of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw induced by nintedanib. A custom-made subperiosteal implant was designed to adapt to the bone, remaining after the excision of the jaw necrosis. The implant followed the anatomic contour of the residual bone and was milled in titanium alloy, allowing the rehabilitation of a patient with a fixed dental prosthesis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the impact of a solitary lifestyle on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in adults with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). METHODS This was a prospective cohort study; patients diagnosed with OSA but not receiving continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy were enrolled in our study. These participants completed basic information and the Short Form-36 Health Survey (SF-36) at baseline and were divided into the living alone and living with others groups. Telephone follow-up was performed 1 year later to re-evaluate the SF-36. Differences in health status between and within groups were assessed. In addition, variables associated with changes in the health of the whole population were examined. RESULTS A total of 402 patients with OSA were enrolled, including 120 in the living alone group and the rest in the living with others group. After a year, mental health scores of the living alone group decreased (55.7 ± 21.5 versus 54.1 ± 22.7, p = 0.001), while physical functioning scores of the living with others group increased significantly (82.1 ± 24.7 versus 82.6 ± 24.2, p = 0.006). In the whole population, the determinants of mental health change after 1 year from baseline were alcohol drinking (beta coefficient - 1.169, 95% CI - 2.03 to - 0.309, p = 0.008) and solitary living (beta coefficient - 1.135, 95% CI - 2.072 to - 0.199, p = 0.018). CONCLUSION Regarding all initial variables, alcohol drinking and solitary living seem to be the predictors of mental health change of patients with OSA in China. We speculate that to improve the quality of life of such people, the medical staff could provide certain social support for them.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To compare oral health related quality of life (OHRQoL) and patients´ satisfaction with root canal treatment (RCT) and dental implant (DI) therapy performed by experienced practitioners. METHODS Patients with both an RCT and a DI performed respectively by an endodontist and an oral surgeon with more than 15 years of experience two years prior to the study were included. The survival and satisfactory outcome of both treatments were verified with clinical and radiographic data. Participants completed two constructed questionnaire (one for each treatment). OHRQoL assessment included 24 items (OHIP-14 plus other relevant 10 items from the original OHIP-49 questionnaire). Satisfaction regarding duration, cost and pain (both during and after treatment) of treatment was assessed with a 0-10 scale and perceptions with true/false questions. Weighted sums for each dimension, total OHIP scores, prevalence of impact and general satisfaction of patients were then calculated for DI and RCT and compared using the Wilcoxon test for related samples. Patients´ perceptions were compared with Chi-square test. RESULTS Total OHIP scores were low for both treatments (8.82 and 7.87, respectively for RCT and DI). No significant differences were detected in OHIP total score or any dimension, except for physical pain (significantly higher for RCT than DI (p=0.044)). All patients were satisfied with both treatments; however, patients recalled that pain during treatment was significantly worse for RCT than DI (p=0.003). CONCLUSIONS High long-term OHRQoL and satisfaction is expected with either DI or RCT performed by experienced practitioners; however, physical pain dimension is higher for RCT. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE This study demonstrated a high satisfaction and long-term quality of life of patients undergoing both DI and RCT if treatments provide a functional balance and are performed by experienced practitioners. Very importantly, all participants had received both treatment modalities and being their own control eliminates individual variability.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of a digital workflow by comparing the accuracy of prosthetic teeth positioning between virtual standard-size digitally constructed and conventional dental laboratory-fabricated prostheses. Methods Twenty-five computed tomography datasets with a dentate upper jaw were selected after applying inclusion criteria to 100 random datasets obtained from the institutional library, and partially edentulous maxillae were constructed virtually. Digital datasets of temporary prostheses were fabricated on these virtually constructed edentulous maxillae in two ways: one dataset comprised prostheses that were fabricated conventionally using prosthetic teeth and wax in the dental laboratory and then scanned using a model scanner, whereas the other dataset was designed virtually using standardized virtual dental arches. The digital datasets of both prostheses were compared for differences at six dental-based measurement points with the original patient dentition. Results Overall, the conventional design pathway was more accurate than the digital one (conventional 2.915 ± 1.388 mm, digital 3.609 ± 2.052 mm, P < 0.001). However, when all six measurement points were evaluated individually, only three points showed significant differences in the tooth positions. Compared with the original dentition, the deviations were less in the anterior teeth region than in the molar region, fulfilling the esthetic expectations of the patients. Standardized virtual dental arches were practically adequate because virtual reconstruction of every edentulous case using these virtual arches was possible without any additional modifications. Conclusion It is possible to fabricate clinically acceptable temporary prostheses using a comprehensive digital workflow based on standardized digital dental arches.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Since Wnt signaling plays an important role in both tooth agenesis and altered intestine homeostasis, the aim was to compare gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with isolated oligodontia caused by a Wnt pathway gene mutation and controls. METHODS A case-control study was designed to compare self-reported gastrointestinal symptoms among patients with isolated oligodontia, caused by a Wnt signaling gene mutation, and fully dentate controls. The Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS) was used to assess gastrointestinal symptoms. Prevalence and severity of gastrointestinal symptoms among patients and age- and gender-matched controls were evaluated. RESULTS Twenty patients with isolated oligodontia and a pathogenic variant in the wnt pathway genes WNT10A, LRP6, or PAX9 participated. The prevalence of gastrointestinal symptoms was higher in the oligodontia patients compared to their controls (Χ2 (1) = 87.33, p = .008). Mean GSRS total scores (p = .011) and domain scores for "abdominal pain" (p = .022), "reflux" (p = .003) and constipation (p = .030) were higher for these oligodontia patients compared to their controls. CONCLUSION Gastrointestinal symptoms are more prevalent and more severe in patients with isolated oligodontia and a deficiency in a Wnt pathway-related gene, when compared to controls without tooth agenesis.

Abstract
X‐linked hypophosphataemia (XLH) and osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) are rare congenital disorders characterised by skeletal dysplasia. The two disorders may include dental anomalies potentially affecting individual well‐being. The aims of study were (a) to assess the oral health‐related quality of life (OHRQoL) in Danish adults with XLH or OI, and (b) to compare the results of the groups. A cross‐sectional study including 35 adults with XLH, 56 adults with OI type I and 17 adults with OI types III‐IV was conducted. The OHRQoL was assessed by the 49‐item version of the questionnaire Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP). Summed domain scores (seven) were compared between XLH and OI groups. Prevalence of severe impact on OHRQoL (scores 3‐4) was compared between groups. The median scores in XLH group exceeded the medians in OI (P < .05) in the domains functional limitation (XLH:6.5; OI:4.0), pain (XLH:9.5; OI:5.0), psychological discomfort (XLH:5.5; OI:2.0), psychological disability (XLH:2.0; OI:0.0), handicap (XLH:2.0; OI:0.0) and total OHIP (XLH:35.0; OI:14.0). Differences in domains physical disability (XLH: 4.0; OI: 1.0) and social disability (XLH: 0.0; OI: 0.0) were not significant. Prevalence of severe impact on OHRQoL in the XLH group significantly exceeded the level in OI group in the domains functional limitation (XLH: 59%; OI: 35%), psychological discomfort (XLH: 38%; OI: 20%) and physical disability (XLH: 32%; OI: 13%). In conclusion, adults with XLH experience a higher negative impact on their OHRQoL than adults with OI. Only to a minor degree, individuals with OI types III‐IV experience a higher impact on OHRQoL than individuals with OI type I.

Abstract
Patients perceive the impact of oral disorder in four major areas, the dimensions of oral health-related quality life (OHRQoL) Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact. The functional aspect is essential given the need of chewing, biting, speech and swallowing. The objective of this study was to identify OHRQoL information for dental subjects with functional oral health problems. In a systematic review, distinct and clinically relevant groups of dental subject samples, in this study called "population groups," with such functional OHRQoL information based on the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) were identified (PROSPERO registration: CRD42017064033). The search strategy was "Oral Health Impact Profile" or OHIP. Searches were conducted in the PubMed interface of the Medline database, EMBASE, Cochrane, CINAHL and PsyINFO on 8 June 2017 and updated on 14 January 2019. Published OHIP domain data of different versions were recalculated into OHIP-14`s Physical Disability domain score, characterising the subject's Oral Function impact. 3,653 potentially abstracts were screened. We identified 78 publications reporting dimensional information on 154 subject samples with 52 populations. A typical mean functional impact for partially dentate subjects was 1.6 units on a 0 to 8 unit metric, while for edentate subjects, the mean functional impact was 2.6 units. The functional impact score ranged from 0 to 7.9 units with 50% of the patient samples located between 0.8 and 2.6 units. For the first time, we provide normalised and therefore comparable metric information about the functional OHRQoL impact for a substantial number of functional oral conditions.

Abstract
Objectives Missing teeth are routinely replaced with fixed dental prostheses (FDPs); thus, knowing the patient's oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) after placement of FDP and factors affecting their quality of life in addition to their oral hygiene practices is important. This study aimed to measure OHRQoL with FDPs and oral hygiene practices of adults in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods A survey was distributed in hard and soft copy forms. Target subjects were adults older than 18 years with FDP and living in Riyadh. The questionnaire contained four domains: demographic data, medical history, characteristics of the prostheses and oral hygiene practices, and Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP)-14 questionnaire, which measures OHRQoL. Results The study included 528 subjects. More than half of the participants (56.6%) had poor OHRQoL, which was associated with female gender, full-time employment, and low income. The presence of toothache, periodontal diseases, oral abscess, and broken teeth were all associated with poor OHRQoL. Participants with diabetes were also found to have poor OHRQoL. As for oral hygiene practices, 47% of subjects did not receive oral hygiene instructions after the placement of their FDP. It was also found that 53.4% of the study population brush only once daily. Conclusion Many factors can have an influence on OHRQoL. Both dentist and patient awareness regarding postoperative oral hygiene instructions should be increased to ensure the durability of the prosthodontic appliances and improve patients' OHRQoL.

Abstract
Background Effect of fixed prosthodontics on patients with several agenetic teeth is not well understood. Purpose To assess the effect of implant‐based fixed prosthodontics on oral health‐related quality of life (OHRQoL), general health status, and satisfaction regarding dental appearance, ability to chew and speech in patients with several agenetic teeth. Materials and Methods For this prospective cohort study, all patients (≥18 years) with several agenetic teeth who were scheduled for treatment with fixed dental implants between September 2013 and July 2015 at our department were approached. Participants received a set of questionnaires before and 1 year after implant placement to assess OHRQoL (OHIP‐NL49), general health status (SF‐36), and satisfaction regarding dental appearance, ability to chew and speech. Results About 25 out of 31 eligible patients (10 male, 15 female; median age: 20 [19;23] years; agenetic teeth: 7 [5;10]) were willing to participate. Pre‐ and post‐treatment OHIP‐NL49 sum‐scores were 38 [28;56] and 17 [7;29], respectively (P < .001). Scores of all OHIP‐NL49 subdomains decreased tool, representing an improved OHRQoL (P < .05) as well as that satisfaction regarding dental appearance, ability to chew and speech increased (P < .001). General health status did not change with implant treatment (P > .05). Conclusions Treatment with implant‐based fixed prosthodontics improves OHRQoL and satisfaction with dental appearance, ability to chew and speech, while not affecting general health status.
