Abstract
BACKGROUND To assess the variability in wavefront aberrations with short-term wear of photochromic senofilcon A contact lenses in both its activated and inactive states. METHODS AND MATERIAL In this cross-sectional study, 20 participants who had previously used soft contact lenses were enrolled. Corneal aberrometry measurements were performed on each subject, without contact lenses, using Sirius Scheimpflug-Placido topography. The photochromic lenses were illuminated using a blue-violet light (λ max = 420 nm) so as to provoke an activated state, and measurements were taken with the lenses inserted, in both states. The root mean square (RMS) of the aberrations was calculated, and the higher- and lower-order aberrations, astigmatism, coma, spherical aberration, and trefoil measurements were evaluated using a 5.0-mm pupil diameter. RESULTS The average contact lens sphere power was - 2.33 ± 1.07 D. The mean refractive errors with contact lens wear were 0.07 ± 0.18 D for the sphere and - 0.26 ± 0.15 D for the cylinder. The mean RMS values for all the corneal aberrations showed no statistically significant differences with and without contact lenses (p > 0.05). In a bivariate correlation analysis, there was a positive correlation between contact lens sphere power and coma (vertical and horizontal) in the activated state (r = 0.455, p = 0.44 and r = 0.495, p = 0.27, respectively). CONCLUSION The photochromic contact lenses did not influence ocular aberration during short-term wear, even when the photochromatic additive was activated. This property may help to provide more comfortable vision with lens wear. This finding needs to be verified by further studies.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the agreement between three methods for measuring pupil size in patients implanted with multifocal intraocular lenses (MIOLs): Keratograph 5M (K5M), Pentacam AXL Wave (PW), and a simple hand ruler. Sixty-nine subjects implanted with MIOLs and measured at the three-month follow-up visit were included in this retrospective analysis. K5M and PW were used to measure the photopic (PP) and mesopic (MP) pupil sizes, and a hand ruler was used to measure the pupil under environmental light conditions (135 lux). The Bland-Altman method with its limits (LoAs) was used to assess the agreement. The median PP was 2.8, 2.95, and 3 mm for K5M, PW, and the ruler, respectively (p < 0.05). Differences in PP were statistically significant for all paired comparisons (p < 0.0005) except between PW and the ruler (p = 0.44). The LoAs for the difference in PP between K5M and PW was 0.63 mm. The mean difference for MP between K5M and PW was 0.04 mm (p = 0.34) with LoAs of 0.72 mm. MP measured with K5M and PW could be considered interchangeable, although a correction of -0.3 mm (IC95%: -0.23 to -0.39) should be applied to PP measured with PW to attain the K5M mean.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the pupillary diameter and pupillary light response in patients who have recovered from the COVID-19. METHODS Thirty two eyes of 32 patients with a history of COVID-19 in the last two months and 32 eyes of 32 age and sex-matched healthy controls were included in this prospective study. All patients had neurological symptoms. Dynamic and static pupillometry measurements were performed with the Sirius (CSO, Italy) corneal topography device. RESULTS Patients with COVID-19 had higher mean scotopic, mesopic, and photopic pupil diameters compared to the controls (p = .01, p = .04, p = .02, respectively). In dynamic pupillometry analysis, 0th, 2th, 8th and 16th second pupil diameter measurements were higher in COVID-19 patients (p = .02, p = .04, p = .04, p = .04, respectively). There were no differences in the average speed of pupillary dilatation (p > .05). CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that the pupillary response, an indicator of autonomic nervous system activity, may be affected in COVID-19 patients with neurological symptoms.

Abstract
Purpose
To compare the results of corneal evaluation, either the total corneal thickness and corneal opacity depth by both technologies AS- OCT and Scheimpflug imaging by Sirius Scheimpflug placido topography.
Methods
sixty-eight eyes of sixty- eight consecutive patients with corneal opacities were examined by both AS-OCT and Sirius Scheimpflug imaging. Corneal thickness and corneal opacity depth were measured and compared determining the interchangeability using Bland–Altman plotting.
Results
Total corneal thickness was (470.32±62.10) and (463.47±56.47) by AS. OCT and Sirius Scheimpflug imaging, respectively (P value = 0.8).
While the actual measurement of corneal opacity, corneal opacity depth was (135.39±119) and (85.45±128) by AS-OCT and Siris Scheimpflug imaging respectively with P value (0.004).
Conclusion
AS-OCT and Scheimpflug imaging Sirius may be used interchangeably for measuring both total corneal thickness, while in the determination of corneal opacity depth. the AS-OCT is superior to Scheimpflug imaging in the accuracy of determination of actual boundaries of the corneal opacity.

Abstract
PURPOSE To examine the static and dynamic pupillary functions with automated pupillography in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients with preserved visual acuity. METHODS Forty-seven MS patients with preserved visual acuity were included in the study group and 43 healthy volunteers in the control group. The visual evoked potential of the patients was obtained. After routine ophthalmologic examination contrast sensitivity and the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness were measured. Finally scotopic, mesopic, and photopic pupillographies followed by dynamic pupillography were undertaken, and the pupillary dilatation speed was calculated. RESULTS The contrast sensitivity and RNFL thickness of the MS group were significantly lower than those of the control group (p < 0.05; for both). In the MS and control groups, the scotopic pupil diameters were 5.48 ± 1.03 and 5.28 ± 0.78 mm, mesopic pupil diameters were 4.82 ± 0.83 and 4.48 ± 0.70 mm, and photopic pupil diameters were 3.84 ± 0.79 and 3.42 ± 0.49 mm, respectively (p = 0.315, p = 0.044, and p = 0.004, respectively). In dynamic pupillography, the pupil in the MS group was more dilated than control group at all time sections examined except the sixth second (p < 0.05; for all). Although the mean pupillary dilation speed in the first second was higher in the MS group (p = 0.044), there was no significant difference between the groups for the other time intervals examined (p > 0.05; for all). There was no correlation between pupillary parameters and P100-wave latency, RNFL thickness, or contrast sensitivity (p > 0.05; for all). CONCLUSIONS Static and dynamic pupillary functions may be affected in MS patients with preserved visual acuity. Although scotopic pupillary functions are preserved, mesopic, and photopic pupil functions are weakened.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Mechanisms of action and optimal stimulation parameters of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) are currently unknown. Pupil size has gained attention as a promising biomarker of vagal activation in different studies on animal models. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of taVNS on pupil diameter in healthy subjects. METHODS All subjects received taVNS at the left external acoustic meatus and control stimulation at the left earlobe during the same experimental session. Different intensities (0.5 mA; 1.0 mA; 2.0 mA; 3.0 mA) for both conditions were tested. Tonic pupil size was recorded in both eyes at baseline and during each stimulation using an infrared-automated pupillometer in three different illuminance conditions (scotopic, mesopic, photopic). RESULTS In scotopic illuminance condition, a significant interaction between intensity and condition (real vs control) was found for the left eye. Post-Hoc analysis showed that during real taVNS at 2 mA, pupil size was significantly larger in comparison to baseline and 2 mA control stimulation. CONCLUSIONS Our study demonstrates that taVNS induces pupil dilation under specific illuminance conditions and at specific stimulation intensity. SIGNIFICANCE The effects of taVNS are strictly dependent on technical aspects, such as stimulation parameters and experimental set-up.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the effects of a single dose of brimonidine 0.15% on anterior segment morphology, pupil characteristics, and choroidal blood flow in treated and untreated eyes of healthy subjects and to compare the results obtained with those in another healthy volunteer group. METHODS Participants were classified as study and control groups. The eyes in the study group were randomized. Only one eye received one drop of brimonidine (treated eyes), and the contralateral eye received single dose of sodium hyaluronate (untreated eyes). In addition, only right eyes of control subjects, who had single dose of sodium hyaluronate to both eyes, were analyzed (control eyes). Anterior segment parameters including central corneal thickness (CCT), aqueous depth, anterior chamber volume, iridocorneal angle (ICA), horizontal anterior chamber diameter, and pupil measurements including scotopic, mesopic, photopic, and dynamic pupil diameters (PDs) were performed with Sirius Scheimpflug camera. Choroidal thickness (CT) measurements were taken with optical coherence tomography. These measurements were taken at baseline and repeated 1 hour after the dosing. RESULTS Only the treated eyes had significantly thicker CCT and wider ICA values after instillation of brimonidine. Static and dynamic PD values of treated eyes and even untreated eyes significantly decreased after brimonidine. However, brimonidine has no significant effect on CT measurements. CONCLUSION A single dose of brimonidine causes thickening in CCT and widening in ICA values in treated eyes. In addition, it has significant effect to decrease the scotopic, mesopic, photopic, and dynamic PD values in treated and even contralateral eyes while has no effect on choroidal blood flow.

Abstract
Purpose: To investigate the relation between erectile dysfunction (ED) severity and pupillary functions in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods: This prospective and observational study included 90 patients with type 2 DM and ED. Patients divided into three subgroups according to severity of ED: (i) Mild ED, (ii) Moderate ED and (iii) Severe ED groups. Thirty age-matched healthy subjects formed the control group. Main outcome measures were pupil diameter and average speed of pupil dilation. Static and dynamic pupillometry analysis was performed using the Sirius Topographer (CSO, Firenze, Italy). Results: Mean pupil diameter during static and dynamic pupillometry analysis were significantly greater in the control group than in the all study groups (P < 0.05). Mean pupil diameter in static pupillometry analysis was significantly different in each study group and pupil was more miotic in the Severe ED group than in the both Moderate and Mild ED groups (P < 0.05 for each). Dynamic pupillometry analysis revealed that mean pupil diameter and mean average dilation speed were significantly different in each study group throughout measurement period and the highest speed was observed in the Mild ED group and the lowest speed was observed in the severe ED group (P < 0.005 for each). Conclusion: Our study results suggest that abnormal pupil functions due to diabetic autonomic neuropathy may indicate the associated ED in patients with DM.

Abstract
Purpose To report the characteristics of anterior and posterior corneal high-order aberrations in patients with different refractive errors. Setting This study was conducted at Sohag Refractive Center, Sohag, Egypt. Design This is a retrospective observational study. Methods This study evaluated 750 patients (750 eyes) who were seeking refractive surgery. The eyes were stratified into five groups (150 eyes/group) based on refractive error: mild-to-moderate myopia, high myopia, hyperopia, simple myopic astigmatism, and simple hypermetropic astigmatism. All patients were subjected to comprehensive ophthalmological examination including corneal topography and corneal aberrometry using the Scheimpflug–Placido topography (Sirius, CSO, Italy). Results Coma aberration was statistically significant when compared in all five groups (P=0.01). It was highest in the hypermetropia group (0.26 ± 0.12 μm) but lower in the moderate myopia, high myopia, myopic astigmatism, and hypermetropic astigmatism groups. Spherical aberration was lowest in the hypermetropia group and significantly different from that in the other groups. Trefoil was statistically insignificant when all groups were compared (P=0.062) but was highest in the myopic astigmatism group (0.24 ± 0.25 μm). Total RMS peaked in the hypermetropia group (0.99 ± 0.70). Conclusions In normal corneas and regular refractive errors, the cornea-induced high-order aberration was minimal, and all types of refractive errors were associated with certain types of high-order aberrations, with a significant increase in spherical aberration in the hypermetropia group.
