Abstract
Objectives This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitude, and practice of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) among healthcare workers in government hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods A multicenter, cross-sectional study was conducted from March to April 2022. The lottery method of a simple random sampling technique was used to select six government hospitals. Structured, self-administered questionnaires were used to collect the data, which was coded into Microsoft Excel® and then exported to statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) ®Version 26 for further statistical analysis. Results A large proportion of respondents (51.6%) and 63.6%) reported poor knowledge and practice respectively, regarding PEP for HIV. However, more than half of respondents (54.2%) had a favorable attitude toward PEP for HIV. Conclusion A significant proportion of respondents had poor knowledge and practice regarding PEP for HIV, even though they had relatively favorable attitudes. Most healthcare workers (68.9%) did not receive any PEP training.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The increasing prevalence of needle stick injuries among nurses and the arising risks double the need to pay attention to improve their knowledge and change their behavior using effective educational models. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of educational intervention based on the health belief model on nurses' compliance with standard precautions in preventing needle stick injuries. METHODS This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 110 nurses working in medical training centers in Shiraz and Fasa in 2019. Subjects were selected using a simple sampling method and were randomly divided into two interventions (n = 55) and control (n = 55). The intervention included 7 sessions of 50-55 min. Before and 3 months after the intervention, the health belief model questionnaire was completed by both groups. The data were analyzed using SPSS software version 22 through chi-square, independent, and paired t-tests (P < 0.05). RESULTS Based on independent and paired t-tests, there was no significant difference between the control and intervention groups regarding the mean score of health belief model constructs before the intervention. However, there was a significant difference regarding the mentioned scores 3 months after the educational intervention. Based on the paired t-test, the mean score of awareness, perceived sensitivity, perceived severity, perceived benefits, self-efficacy, cues to action, and behavioral performance in the intervention group significantly increased after the educational intervention (P < 0.05). Also, there was a significant decrease in perceived barriers (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION It is recommended to apply the proposed model as an effective and cost-effective method along with other methods in training programs for nurses and other health workers exposed to invasive procedures, contaminated blood, and secretions.

Abstract
The study investigated the sero-status of human immunodeficiency virus among healthcare workers in Addis Ababa public hospitals. A multi-centered, institutional-based, cross-sectional study was conducted from 18 September 2022 to 30 October 2022. A simple random sampling method and a semi-structured, self-administered questionnaire were used to collect the data, which were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25. A binary logistic regression model was used to identify the factors associated with the human immunodeficiency virus sero-status of healthcare workers post exposure to infected blood and body fluids. Of the 420 study participants who were exposed to blood and body fluids, 403 (96%) were non-reactive. Healthcare workers who had 20-29 years of work experience had approximately six times higher odds of testing positive for the human immunodeficiency virus (AOR = 6.21, 95% CI: 2.39, 9.55). Healthcare workers who did not use personal protective equipment properly had five times higher odds of testing positive for the human immunodeficiency virus (AOR = 5.02, CI: 3.73, 9.51). This study showed that, among those healthcare workers who tested positive for the human immunodeficiency virus infection, the majority were from the emergency department. Healthcare workers who did not use personal protective equipment properly had higher odds of testing positive for the human immunodeficiency virus.

Abstract
Healthcare workers are much more likely to be infected with HIV and hepatitis viruses compared to the general population. Although healthcare workers are more aware of HIV and hepatitis viruses, several countries in Africa lack a comprehensive grasp of disease routes and transmission risks. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of the serological and molecular biological markers of HIV and viral hepatitis among healthcare workers in the Republic of Guinea. The study material was 74 blood serum samples collected from healthcare workers who received additional training at the Institute of Applied Biological Research of Guinea (IRBAG, Kindia, Republic of Guinea). The markers examined included HBsAg, HBeAg, anti-HBs IgG, anti-HBcore IgG, anti-HCV qualitative determination, anti-HEV IgM and IgG, anti-HAV IgM and IgG, and anti-HIV. For viral DNA and RNA detection, nucleic acids were extracted from blood serum, and viral presence was inferred using real-time PCR with hybridization fluorescence detection. A high prevalence of viral hepatitis B markers was shown, and significantly fewer cases of viral hepatitis C and HIV were detected. Almost all examined medical workers had anti-HAV IgG antibodies, but no antibodies to hepatitis E virus. Apparently, the identified markers depend on the general prevalence of certain pathogens in the region and are associated with the traditions and characteristics of the country's residents.

Abstract
Background There is a high prevalence of occupational exposure among health care practitioners (HCPs) around the globe. One of the risk factors of HIV infection among HCPs is occupational exposure to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection through blood or fluid from HIV-infected individual. Therefore, because of this prevalence, there is a need to have sufficient knowledge and information regarding post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). Sufficient PEP knowledge assists individuals in utilising PEP in case of exposure to HIV. Aim This study aims to assess the level of knowledge, attitude and adherence to PEP in HCPs in Southern Africa. Setting The systematic review included studies conducted in Southern Africa. Methods A systematic review was conducted. Search engines employed in this study included Google Scholar, Science Direct, PubMed, Ebscohost and JSTOR. From these, 3572 articles emerged after removing duplications, and article screening was guided by inclusion and exclusion criteria and outlined on a PRISMA flow chart. Ultimately, the study included 13 articles. A critical appraisal skills programme was applied for the quality assessment of the eligible studies. Results Studies included in this review revealed that most participants have adequate knowledge regarding PEP (n = 6). However, it was revealed that poor adherence occured because most HCPs did not complete PEP. Conclusion Health care practitioners have adequate knowledge of PEP with varying levels of adherence to PEP. Therefore, more awareness illustrating the importance of adhering to PEP is needed. Contribution There is an adequate level of knowledge regarding PEP found in the included studies although not satisfactory in Southern Africa given the participants are HCPs, and marked inappropriate practices affect adherence.
