Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to quantitatively evaluate the whitening process of brown adipose tissue (BAT) in mice using synthetic magnetic resonance imaging (SyMRI) and analyzed the correlation between SyMRI quantitative measurements of BAT and serum lipid profiles. Methods Fifteen C57BL/6 mice were divided into three groups and fed different diets as follows: normal chow diet for 12 weeks, NCD group; high-fat diet (HFD) for 12 weeks, HFD-12w group; and HFD for 36 weeks, HFD-36w group. Mice were scanned using 3.0 T SyMRI. T1 and T2 values of BAT and interscapular BAT (iBAT) volume were measured. After sacrifice, the body weight of mice, lipid profiles, BAT morphology, and uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) levels were determined. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance or Kruskal-Wallis test followed by Bonferroni correction for pairwise comparisons. Bonferroni-adjusted significance level was set at P < 0.017 (alpha: 0.05/3 = 0.017). Results T2 values of BAT in the HFD-12w group were significantly higher than those in the NCD group (P < 0.001), and those in the HFD-36w group were significantly higher than those in the other two groups (both P < 0.001). The iBAT volume in the HFD-36w group was significantly higher than that in the HFD-12w (P = 0.013) and NCD groups (P = 0.005). T2 values of BAT and iBAT volume were significantly correlated with serum lipid profiles and mouse body weight. Conclusions SyMRI can noninvasively evaluate the whitening process of BAT using T2 values and iBAT volume, thereby facilitating the visualization of the whitening process.

Abstract
This study evaluated the biocompatibility of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Biodentine (BD) as root-end filling materials. Six mongrel dogs were divided into two equal groups according to the evaluation period; group A: one month and group B: three months. Three premolars of the same quadrant in each arch were used, summing up 36 teeth (6 teeth/dog). These teeth were randomly subdivided into three subgroups according to the root-end filling material used: MTA, BD and no root-end filling material (control). Endodontic access cavities were performed for induction of periapical pathosis. After the infection period, root canal instrumentation and obturation were accomplished. One day after root canal procedures, root-end surgery was performed. Surgical access was achieved and the root-end was resected approximately 3 mm above the apex. Root-end cavity was prepared ultrasonically and filled with the tested materials. All samples were evaluated by radiography and histopathology (Inflammation and new hard tissue formation). Data were collected and subjected to statistical analysis. In group A, MTA subgroup exhibited significant higher mean inflammatory score than BD subgroup (P < 0.05) while no significant difference was recorded between MTA and BD subgroups in group B (P > 0.05). Regarding mean mineralization score, there was no significant difference between all subgroups in both groups A and B (P > 0.05). Biodentine exhibited favorable biocompatibility in the initial stage of healing than MTA and comparable biomineralization. Clinical relevance: Biodentine could be considered as an acceptable alternative to MTA in peri-radicular surgeries.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The pulpal response to Hoffmann's Pulpine mineral (PMIN) and Pulpine NE (PNE) was compared to mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) when used as pulpotomy materials in immature permanent teeth in dogs. MATERIALS AND METHODS Immature premolars were randomly divided according to the observation period into three equal groups (n = 24) (10 days, 30 days, and 90 days) then furtherly subdivided into 3 subgroups according to the material used. Histopathological analysis regarding inflammatory cell infiltration and dentin bridge (DB) formation was done. Immunohistochemical analysis was performed using osteopontin marker. RESULTS The results showed that after 90 days, both MTA and PMIN subgroups had 100% complete thick DB without inflammation in 87.5% of the samples, while the PNE subgroup failed to form DB in 37.5% of the samples and 50% of samples showed thin initial DB with heavy inflammation in 62.5% of the samples. There was no significant difference between MTA and PMIN, while there was a statistically significant difference between PNE and the two other subgroups in DB formation and inflammatory cell infiltration (P > 0.05). After 90 days, MTA showed the highest mean value of osteopontin positive fraction area followed by PMIN without statistically significant differences, while the least value was recorded in PNE subgroup with statistically significant difference with the remaining subgroups (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION PMIN is a promising alternative to MTA when used for pulpotomy. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Vital pulp therapy in immature teeth can be done using PMIN as an alternative to MTA.
