A case of subcutaneous malignant fibrous histiocytoma circumscribed by fibrous tissue

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma of chest wall

Primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of the chest wall is rare. We report a case of primary MFH arising from the chest wall, which was thought to be a metastasis or myeloma. The imaging study revealed a single mass of the chest wall involving a rib. Resection and chest wall reconstruction was done. The histologic diagnosis was storiform-pleomorphic primary MFH. Although MFH of the chest wall is an uncommon pathology, it should be considered in the differentiation of a single bony destructive lesion involving the rib with a soft tissue component.

Pigmented dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans of the foot with fibrosarcomatous changes: a review and case presentation

Pigmented dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, also known as Bednar's tumor, is a rare, aggressive, cutaneous tumor. The lesion is highly invasive but metastasis is rare. This article presents a case of Bednar's tumor of the foot with fibrosarcomatous changes and a review of the differential diagnoses of this lesion.

Pediatric cutaneous malignant fibrous histiocytoma

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is an aggressive soft-tissue sarcoma that most commonly occurs in the skeletal muscle of the extremities or retroperitoneum of adults. Although the majority of MFH is located beneath the fascia, the tumor occasionally occurs in the subcutaneous tissue. MFH rarely occurs in children and the disease course, prognosis, and outcome in younger patients has not been well described. We report a case of cutaneous MFH presenting on the thigh of a 12-year-old boy.
