Abstract
Hormonal and immunologic changes during pregnancy can contribute to the development of different dermatoses, the most common of which is atopic eruption of pregnancy (AEP). Of atopic dermatitis (AD) cases during pregnancy, 80% are new-onset presentations, while 20% represent recurrences or exacerbations of preexisting disease. Evidence on the effects of previous AD on fertility is limited. Different factors influence women's desire to conceive in this setting, and it has been hypothesized that barrier defects and systemic inflammation could contribute to biologic infertility, although more data are needed. Clinical practice suggests a tendency toward undertreatment in pregnant woman due to concerns about potential effects on obstetric and fetal outcomes. However, pregnant women should be offered adequate and safe treatments, preferably on an individual basis. The aim of this review was to summarize the evidence on disease course in pregnant women with AD and the challenges associated with its diagnosis and management. We also review the current evidence on the use of conventional and novel systemic therapies for AD in this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several environmental factors are associated with the risk of acute lower respiratory infections (ALRIs) and upper respiratory infections (URIs) in children under 5 years of age (YOA). Evidence implicating chemical pesticides remains equivocal. There are also no data on this subject in these children in Ghana. This study investigated the association between urinary pesticide residual levels and the risk for ALRIs/URIs in children under 5 YOA. METHODS The participants for this study were from the Offinso North Farm Health Study, a population-based cross-sectional study. Two hundred and fifty four parents/guardians who had answered affirmatively to the question "Has your child ever accompanied you to the farm?" were interviewed on household socio-demographic and environmental factors, being breastfed, child education, age, gender, and respiratory infection. One hundred fifty children were randomly selected to provide the first void urine. RESULTS The proportion of children with ALRI was 22.1% and those with URI was 35.8%. We observed a statistically significant exposure-response relation of p,p'-DDE (tertile) with ALRI (1.7-3.2 µg/L urine: prevalence ratio [PR] = 1.22 [1.05-1.70], ⩾3.2 µg/L urine: 1.50 [1.07-3.53] [P-for trend = .0297]). This observation was in children older than two YOA (P-for trend = .0404). Delta-HCH and beta-HCH (2-levels) were significantly associated with ALRI but not URI. The risk of ALRI increased with deltamethrin levels in an exposure-response manner (2.5-9.5 µg/L urine: 2.10 [1.37-3.24], ⩾9.5 µg/L urine: 4.38 [1.87-10.32] [P-for trend = .0011]) and this was also observed in children older than two YOA. Similar observation was noted for URI. Bifenthrin (>0.5 µg/L urine) was positively associated with ALRI and URI whereas permethrin (⩾1.2 µg/L urine) was not associated only with URI. CONCLUSIONS The present study supports the hypothesis that exposure to chemical pesticides is associated with respiratory infections in children under 5 YOA.

Abstract
A potential correlation between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and asthma, used to be identified as diseases originating from two independent systems, has been supported by increasing evidence. From an epidemiological perspective, mounting studies have confirmed that women suffering from PCOS exhibit increased susceptibility to asthma. Meanwhile, PCOS and asthma seem to share several mutual pathological conditions, such as metabolic disorders, hormonal fluctuation, proinflammatory state, etc. Here, we further elucidate the correlation between asthma and PCOS by focusing on the internal common pathophysiology and adverse influences on women's health. Understanding the internal connection between PCOS and asthma may shed light on developing new prevention and control strategies to fight against these conditions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Given that common pathophysiological factors play a role in atopic dermatitis (AD) and infertility, we assumed that the 2 conditions might demonstrate an epidemiological association. Large-scale epidemiological data on this topic are lacking. OBJECTIVES The aim of this work was to evaluate the potential association between AD and infertility in a broad community-based population. METHODS A nationwide retrospective cohort study was conducted, analyzing the association between AD and infertility. We compared AD patients diagnosed by a dermatologist between 2002 and 2018 and a matched control group. The study population was subdivided according to age into adults (age ≥18 years) and children (age <18 years), and was further subdivided according to AD severity, classified as either mild or moderate-to-severe according to AD-related drug use and healthcare services utilization. RESULTS The study included 127,150 patients with AD and 127,071 comparison enrollees. AD was associated with a higher prevalence of infertility than that of the control group (1.4 and 1.1%, respectively). The prevalence of infertility, per 1,000 patient-years, was increased in patients with AD compared to that of the control group (2.17 and 1.7, respectively). Multivariate analysis for infertility demonstrated that AD was a key risk factor for infertility in both males and females with mild AD and moderate-to-severe AD. CONCLUSION A significant association between AD and infertility was observed. This association suggests that infertility may be an additional manifestation of AD. Further studies are warranted to evaluate the impact of AD management in the setting of infertility and vice versa.

Abstract
The incidence of allergic diseases has been increasing in recent decades, and currently, nearly 30% of the European population suffer from some type of allergy. Also, an increasing number of people are suffering from infertility. Both diseases are related to the hormonal and immune systems, which prompts the question as to whether there is a causal relationship between allergic disorders and the reproductive system. The purpose of this review is to evaluate whether there is a link between allergic diseases and infertility, using the available literature.

Abstract
Background and objective Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases among women of reproductive age, and previous studies have suggested a link between female asthma and infertility. The aim of the present review is to provide an update on current knowledge of the association between female asthma and/or atopy and a reduction in fertility, ie, number of offspring, time to pregnancy (TTP) and need for fertility treatment. Methods Systematic review performed in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses-guidelines. Results A total of 14 studies fulfilled the predefined criteria for inclusion in the present review. Six studies investigated the association between female asthma and/or atopy and number of offspring, of which one reported a positive, two a negative, and three no association. Three studies addressed the association between asthma and TTP and found that TTP was significantly prolonged in asthmatic women compared to non-asthmatic women. Five studies investigated subfertility and the need for fertility treatments of which two studies found a higher prevalence of infertility among women prescribed anti-asthma medication. One study found no difference in the number of fertility treatments of asthmatic women compared to non-asthmatic women, whereas three studies reported that female asthma was associated with significantly more fertility treatment compared to non-asthmatic women. Conclusion Although the available evidence is conflicting, there is a clear trend toward an association between female asthma and a reduction in fertility, and by that a larger proportion requiring fertility treatment, even though female asthma might not negatively affect total number of offspring.

Abstract
OBJECT Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between asthma and reproductive factors, including age at first childbirth and parity, in a representative sample of Korean women. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES We analyzed data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2010-2012). A total of 7837 adults who completed a questionnaire and examination were evaluated. The presence of asthma was based on the Health Interview Survey. Reproductive factors were estimated by trained interviewers using participant recall. RESULTS The women with asthma were significantly older than those without asthma. BMI, hypertension, education level, income level, occupation, alcohol consumption, and age at menarche and first birth were significantly associated with the diagnosis of asthma. Higher parity was positively associated with later-onset asthma. In addition, women who were younger at first birth had a greater prevalence of later-onset asthma. After controlling for confounders, being aged under 20 at first birth was significantly associated with an asthma diagnosis compared with women aged 25-29 at first birth (OR [95% CI]: 1.81 [1.14-2.89]). CONCLUSIONS Although higher parity was associated with asthma in women, its significance disappeared after adjustment. These results warrant future studies to explore the mechanisms responsible for the association between reproductive factors and asthma.

Abstract
AIM To examine the effect of hospitalization during adolescence on the likelihood of giving birth. METHODS 142 998 women born in 1973-75 were followed with the help of the Swedish Medical Birth Register (MBR) and the Swedish Total Population Register (TPR) up until the end of 2000 with respect to their likelihood of giving birth. All analyses were adjusted for parental socio-economic characteristics and factors related to the studied women's own birth. RESULTS The likelihood of giving birth between 20 and 27 years of age was positively affected by hospitalization at least once during adolescence according to the Swedish Hospital Discharge Register (HDR); adjusted hazard ratio (HR) = 1.32, 95% confidence interval: 1.29-1.35. Women hospitalized due to genitourinary diseases, respiratory diseases, abdominal problems and abuse of alcohol and drugs were more likely to have given birth during the study period, while hospitalizations according to cerebral palsy and congenital malformations tended to decrease childbearing. Women hospitalized due to psychiatric diseases had an increase likelihood of given birth at 20-24 years but a reduced thereafter. CONCLUSION A majority of the causes of hospitalization during adolescence increased the likelihood of giving birth between ages 20 to 27.

Abstract
The prevalence of childhood atopic disorders has risen dramatically in the last decades of the past century. Risk factors for the development of these disorders have been studied extensively. This review focuses on the role of early life risk factors such as pre-natal development, perinatal circumstances, birth order and childhood vaccinations.
