Erythema Ab Igne: A Mottled Rash on the Torso

Erythema ab igne (EAI) is a typical example of an environmental-induced dermatosis secondary to overexposure of a particular part of the skin to heat. Once a familiar entity in the precentral heating era, it seems to be making a comeback with prolonged usage of electronic devices close to the body surface as well as usage of alternative methods of pain relief being sought by patients. We describe a case of a 39-year-old female who presented to our clinic with a mottled reticulate rash on her back after five years of using heating pads for her chronic backache.

Cutaneous findings in children with intellectual disabilities

The link between pediatric dermatology and intellectual disabilities (ID) is revised, according to the author's personal experience and the existing published work. Cutaneous manifestations in children with ID can be: (i) a key element to reach a diagnosis, as in neurodermatoses; (ii) a peculiar sign to define a complex syndrome; (iii) linked to behavioral features; (iv) iatrogenic, caused by drugs, as a side-effect; and (v) independent from ID.

Elastosis perforans serpiginosa in an adult with Down's syndrome: report of a case with symmetrical localized involvement

Elastosis perforans serpiginosa (EPS) is a rare perforating dermatosis in which elastic fibers extrude from the papillary dermis producing umbilicated papules, characteristically arranged to form arciform or serpiginous patterns on the skin. It can be observed in patients with Down's syndrome, in whom in some cases the disease has been reported to be more widespread and to run a longer course. We present the case of a 20-year-old girl with Down's syndrome, hypothyroidism, acne and hypertrichosis, who had a 2-year history of multiple atrophic lesions with an arciform pattern on the distal extensor portions of both thighs, histologically showing the typical features of EPS.
