Meiosis: a prostaglandin response that is not inhibited by aspirin

Antispermatogenic effect of aspirin and its prevention by prostaglandin E2

Aspirin treatment causes a decrease in Leydig cell function, change in Sertoli cell morphology and a subsequent decrease in Spermatid count. Administration of Prostaglandin E2 prevents the effect of Aspirin on the Sertoli cell morphology and Spermatid degeneration without significant improvement of the Leydig cell function. On the basis of these findings, a possible relationship between Prostaglandin and testicular spermatogenesis has been discussed.

Anti-inflammatory drugs, prostaglandins and leucocyte migration

The action of some non-steroidal acidic anti-inflammatory drugs, aspirin, phenylbutazone and indomethacin, in reducing leucocyte migration into the exudates of inert porous sponges implanted subdermally in the rat has been shown to be distinct from their effect in reducing the content of prostaglandins in the exudates. It is concluded that a component of the anti-inflammatory and antirheumatic actions of the drugs is concerned with a mechanism other than inhibition of prostaglandin biosynthesis.
