Abstract
Although hemodialysis is a life-saving treatment for end-stage renal disease, the repeated exposure of blood to certain dialysis membranes can result in complement and neutrophil activation. This article briefly reviews the effect of dialyzer biocompatibility on neutrophil function and relationship to infection.
