Effective surgical treatment of progressive nodular histiocytosis

Progressive nodular histiocytosis (PNH) is a rare benign self-limiting histiocytic disorder of the skin that is characterised by the progressive appearance of widespread xanthomatous lesions with no spontaneous remission. We operated on a 13-year-old girl with PNH four times with a result that had stabilised the condition at 1 year.

Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome caused by a new mutation associated with multifocal dermal juvenile xanthogranulomas

Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome is a rare X-linked primary immunodeficiency clinically characterized by the triad of microthrombocytopenia, immunodeficiency, and eczema. Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a well-recognized benign disorder of infancy and early childhood from the group of non-Langerhans cell histiocytoses, with a good prognosis and spontaneous involution. We report a boy with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome caused by a new, not previously described mutation associated with multifocal juvenile xanthogranuloma.

Juvenile xanthogranuloma of the ear: A case report

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a relatively uncommon, benign histiocytic proliferative disorder. A case of juvenile xanthogranuloma in a 13-month-old girl with an unusual clinical form is described. She presented with a yellow-red projecting nodule over the helical rim of her right ear. The lesion was histologically diagnosed as juvenile xanthogranuloma after excisional biopsy. Although primarily a dermatological curiosity, plastic surgeons should be familiar with this entity, and should consider it in the differential diagnosis of benign soft tissue tumours of the ear.

An Unusual Juvenile Xanthogranulomaon a Finger MCP Joint

Juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) is a benign self-limited histiocytic proliferative disorder that usually occurs in early childhood. JXG appears as reddish to yellow, papules, or nodules, and although the head, neck, and trunk are the most frequent locations, it can occur at any body site. However, JXG involving the finger is rare. Histologically, JXG is characterized by an ill-defined, unencapsulated, dense histiocytic infiltrate within the dermis, some of which is contained in Touton giant cells, foreign body giant cells and foamy cells. Because the cutaneous lesions spontaneously regress, treatment is not usually indicated. The authors report a case of JXG in a 4-year-old girl who had tender, yellowish papule on the ventral aspect of the MCP joint of the right fourth finger consistent with JXG.

Juvenile xanthogranuloma presenting rapid progression after curettage: a case report with clinicopathological findings

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a relatively uncommon benign cutaneous fibrohistiocytic lesion that shows spontaneous regression. We report a case of juvenile xanthogranuloma, which formed a relatively large nodule and rapidly progressed after curettage. A 9-month-old girl had a mass in the skin over the lumbar region of her back that extended to the fascia. The lesion was histologically diagnosed as juvenile xanthogranuloma after total resection of the mass. Although preoperative diagnosis is quite difficult, plastic surgeons should be familiar with this entity. Juvenile xanthogranuloma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of benign tumours and tumour-like lesions in infants. The clinical presentation and histological findings are discussed.
