Eccrine Nevus on the Neck: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Eccrine nevus is an extremely rare benign cutaneous hamartoma that usually occurs in childhood and adolescence. It has a wide range of clinical manifestations, and histological findings reveal a proliferation of structurally normal eccrine ducts. Herein, we present a case of eccrine nevus on the neck of an 8-year-old girl. Our literature review reveals that the head and neck region is a rare anatomical location for eccrine nevus as it has a predilection for extremities. Our review also suggests that overlying skin changes are common in eccrine nevus regardless of accompanying localized hyperhidrosis.

Coccygeal Polypoid Eccrine Nevus Presenting as a Skin Tag: Case Report and Review of the Literature

Coccygeal polypoid eccrine nevi (CPEN) are rare, benign, cutaneous polypoid lesions localized to the coccyx region that are characterized by areas of hyperplastic eccrine ducts without hyperhidrosis. We present the case of an asymptomatic 16-month-old female with a congenital lesion in the lower sacral area and review the literature and the differential diagnosis for CPEN.

Two patients with localised hyperhidrosis of the hand based on functional and structural abnormalities of sweat glands

A 14-year-old girl and a 30-year-old woman presented with localised hyperhidrosis on the dorsal hand and wrist, respectively, provoked by different stimuli such as physical activity and minor trauma to the skin. The skin was seemingly normal in both patients where an iodine-starch test revealed a well-demarcated area of hyperhidrosis. Following histopathological examination, the diagnosis was unilateral localised hyperhidrosis in both cases; one with normal histology and one with a nevus sudoriferous. Both patients were successfully treated with botulinum toxin type A. The 30-year-old woman additionally used low-dose propantheline bromide periodically and experienced long-term remission on this therapy. Hyperhidrosis may embarrass and interfere with patients' school and careers, and it is therefore important to tailor an effective individual treatment.

Eccrine Nevus Presenting with Umbilical Discharge: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Eccrine nevus is a rare skin lesion with protean manifestations like hyperhidrosis, discolored nodules, papules, and so forth, which has been reported in various anatomic parts of the body including the forearm, leg, thigh, back, and coccyx. Our patient was a 26-year-old male, who presented with increasing colorless and odorless episodic umbilical discharge. First impression for the patient was an umbilical sinus and the patient underwent surgery. Histopathological study revealed the lesion to be an eccrine nevus of the umbilicus. This is the first case of eccrine nevus presenting with umbilical discharge. We recommend that eccrine nevus should be considered as a differential diagnosis for umbilical discharge.

Hybrid eccrine gland and hair follicle hamartoma: a new entity of adnexal nevus

Eccrine nevus shows increase in number or size of eccrine glands, whereas hair follicle nevus is composed of densely packed normal vellus hairs, and eccrine-pilar angiomatous nevus reveals increase of eccrine, pilar, and angiomatous structures. No case with increased number of both eccrine glands and hair follicles only in the dermis has been previously reported. A 10-month-old girl presented with cutaneous hamartoma with overlying skin hyperpigmentation on her left hypochondrium since 3 months of age, in whom the lesion was completely excised. Histopathology demonstrated evidently increased number of both eccrine glands and hair follicles in the dermis with reactive hyperplasia of collagen fibers. No recurrence occurred after the tumor was completely excised. A term "hybrid eccrine gland and hair follicle hamartoma" is proposed for this unique lesion.

Two cases of coccygeal polypoid eccrine nevi presenting as skin tags

An eccrine nevus is a rare hamartoma characterized by an increase in the number or size of eccrine glands. Eccrine nevi usually present as localized hyperhidrosis and are not associated with overlying skin abnormalities. However, among the cases that have been reported in the literature, some unique presentations of eccrine nevi have been demonstrated, including a pigmented patch, a depressed nodule, linear papules, and a sacral skin tag. Herein, we report two unusual cases of coccygeal polypoid eccrine nevi and review the literature.

Systematized organoid epidermal nevus with eccrine differentiation, multiple facial and oral congenital scars, gingival synechiae, and blepharophimosis: a novel epidermal nevus syndrome

Epidermal nevus syndrome is a clinically variable and genetically heterogeneous group of mosaic conditions characterized by the concurrence of extensive epidermal nevus with additional cutaneous and extracutaneous manifestations. This term groups together well-characterized clinical entities, as well as dozens of apparently unique associations, which need further delineation. We report on a 23-year-old woman presenting the previously undescribed combination of widespread eccrine proliferation, multiple facial and oral pox-like lesions, gingival synechiae, blepharophimosis, body asymmetry, and mental retardation. The patient has a healthy monozygotic twin. The eccrine proliferation is intermingled with areas of unaffected skin with a linear/segmental distribution on the limbs. The clinical presentation of such a complex phenotype fits well with the genetic mosaicism theory. The histologic findings, consisting of proliferation of immature to well-formed eccrine duct-like structures located in the deep dermis and interspersed with an abundant fibrous stroma constituted of horizontally oriented collagen fibers, seem a possible hallmark of this condition.
