Abstract
OBJECTIVE To construct and validate a nomogram for predicting the risk of secondary peripheral neuropathy in patients with advanced lung cancer. METHODS The sociodemographic and clinical data of 335 patients with advanced lung cancer admitted to Department of Respiratory, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine from May 2020 to May 2021 were retrospectively collected. Pearson correlation analysis, univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the risk factors of secondary peripheral neuropathy in patients with advanced lung cancer. A nomogram was constructed according to the contribution of each risk factor to secondary peripheral neuropathy, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, Calibration curve and clinical decision curve were used to evaluate differentiation, calibration, and the clinical utility of the model. The nomogram was further validated with data from 64 patients with advanced lung cancer admitted between June 2021 and August 2021. RESULTS The incidences of secondary peripheral neuropathy in two series of patients were 34.93% (117/335) and 40.63% (26/64), respectively. The results showed that drinking history ( OR=3.650, 95% CI: 1.523-8.746), comorbid diabetes ( OR=3.753, 95% CI: 1.396-10.086), chemotherapy ( OR=2.887, 95% CI: 1.046-7.970), targeted therapy ( OR=8.671, 95% CI: 4.107-18.306), immunotherapy ( OR=2.603, 95% CI: 1.337-5.065) and abnormal liver and kidney function ( OR=12.409, 95% CI: 4.739-32.489) were independent risk factors for secondary peripheral neuropathy (all P<0.05). A nomogram was constructed based on the above risk factors. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of the nomogram for predicting the secondary peripheral neuropathy was 0.913 (95% CI: 0.882-0.944); and sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were 85.47%, 81.65%, 71.43% and 91.28%, respectively. The Calibration curve and clinical decision curve showed good calibration and clinical utility. External validation results showed that the AUC was 0.764 (95% CI: 0.638-0.869); and sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were 79.28%, 85.79%, 73.25% and 85.82%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Advanced lung cancer patients have a high risk of secondary peripheral neuropathy after anticancer therapy. Drinking history, comorbid diabetes, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, abnormal liver and kidney function are independent risk factors. The nomogram prediction model constructed in the study is effective and may be used for the risk assessment of secondary peripheral neuropathy in patients with advanced lung cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of neuromodulatory drugs on the intensity of chronic pelvic pain (CPP) in women. DATA SOURCES Searches were carried out in the PubMed, Cochrane Central, Embase, Lilacs, OpenGrey, and Clinical Trials databases. SELECTION OF STUDIES The searches were carried out by two of the authors, not delimiting publication date or original language. The following descriptors were used: chronic pelvic pain in women OR endometriosis, associated with MESH/ENTREE/DeCS: gabapentinoids, gabapentin, amitriptyline, antidepressant, pregabalin, anticonvulsant, sertraline, duloxetine, nortriptyline, citalopram, imipramine, venlafaxine, neuromodulation drugs, acyclic pelvic pain, serotonin, noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors, and tricyclic antidepressants, with the Boolean operator OR. Case reports and systematic reviews were excluded. DATA COLLECTION The following data were extracted: author, year of publication, setting, type of study, sample size, intervention details, follow-up time, and results. DATA SYNTHESIS A total of 218 articles were found, with 79 being excluded because they were repeated, leaving 139 articles for analysis: 90 were excluded in the analysis of the titles, 37 after reading the abstract, and 4 after reading the articles in full, and 1 could not be found, therefore, leaving 7 articles that were included in the review. CONCLUSION Most of the studies analyzed have shown pain improvement with the help of neuromodulators for chronic pain. However, no improvement was found in the study with the highest statistical power. There is still not enough evidence that neuromodulatory drugs reduce the intensity of pain in women with CPP.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Endometriosis is a benign gynecologic disorder that is defined as functional endometrial tissue outside of the uterine cavity. It is an estrogen-dependent, inflammatory disease that leads to symptoms of pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and infertility, occurring in 6-10% of reproductive aged women. The severity of the disease ranges from asymptomatic to debilitating symptoms that have a major impact on women's lives. It is a chronic, recurrent disease, frequently requiring long term management until menopause and beyond. It is considered a chronic disorder that is managed with surgery, medical treatment, and oftentimes, both. Current medical therapy for endometriosis is considered suppressive of the disease, rather than curative. Fortunately, many patients do experience improvement and control of their symptoms with medical therapy. However, long-term efficacy of the medical treatments is often limited by side effects and the cost of therapy, and symptoms do tend to recur after discontinuation of these medications. AREAS COVERED This review summarizes our understanding of the pathogenesis of endometriosis and provides more in-depth discussion of specific medical management options used to treat endometriosis, including mechanism of action and side effects. It also provides recommendations on strategy with a forward look to novel endometriosis treatments in the future. EXPERT OPINION The authors emphasize that endometriosis is a chronic disorder requiring long term medical therapy. Early diagnosis of endometriosis is key in preventing severe, debilitating symptoms and progression of disease. By utilizing our current knowledge of the pathophysiology of endometriosis and by correctly implementing currently available medical and surgical therapies we can significantly reduce the physical, psychosocial and financial burden of this chronic, recurrent and indolent disease. Current available medications are suppressive therapies, but the authors are looking forward to future therapies that can effectively cure or at least control endometriosis with minimal side effects. Future research should continue to look for the genetic trigger for endometriosis which can lead us to its underlying pathogenesis and eventually a cure or prevention.

Abstract
We aimed to investigate the effect of superior hypogastric plexus (SHP) block on pain relief and quality of life of patients with refractory endometriosis. Sixteen patients with refractory endometriosis underwent SHP block. The outcome measures included visual analogue scale (VAS) for chronic pelvic pain, VAS for dysmenorrhoea, and VAS for dyspareunia. The short-form endometriosis health profile (EHP-5) was used to measure quality of life. All the outcome measures were evaluated at weeks 0, 1, 4, 12 and 24. The mean baseline VAS scores significantly improved after the SHP block (p < .001 for all). The mean overall EHP-5 score also significantly improved from 54.3 ± 18.2 to 24.6 ± 13.3 (p < .001). The positive effects of SHP were not diminished over time. No serious adverse effect was noticed in any of the patients. Preliminary results suggest that SHP block could be used as an effective method in pain control and improvement of quality of life in refractory endometriosis.IMPACT STATEMENTWhat is already known on this subject? Safety and efficacy of SHP block in the treatment of CPP has been revealed in earlier investigations. However, the efficacy of SHP block for pain management in patients with refractory endometriosis has not been investigated in earlier investigations.What do the results of this study add? SHP block is an effective method for pain control and improvement of quality of life in patients with refractory endometriosis. The positive effects of this treatment did not diminish over 24-weeks follow-up of the study. No serious adverse effect was noticed in any of the patients.What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Preliminary results suggest that SHP block could be used safely and effectively for controlling pain and improvement of quality of life in patients with refractory endometriosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study will assess the effectiveness and safety of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) for endometriosis-related pain (ERP). METHODS Seven electronic databases of Cochrane Library, PUBMED, EMBASE, WANGFANG, VIP, CBM, and CNKI will be searched. We will search all electronic databases related the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the effectiveness and safety of NMES for ERP up to the March 31, 2020 without restrictions of language. RevMan 5.3 software will be used for risk of bias assessment, related data analysis and meta-analysis. RESULTS This systematic review and meta-analysis will summarize current high-quality RCTs on the effectiveness and safety of NMES for ERP. Results of this study will provide the basis for both clinician and further research. CONCLUSION This study will investigate whether NMES is effective and safety for the treatment of ERP. Abstract
Background Pain sensitization processing in the central nervous system may be related to endometriosis-associated pain in patients. The purpose of this study was to understand the alterations in the abnormal pain response in central brain areas and explore the central sensitization mechanism of endometriosis-associated pain. Methods An endometriosis model was established in 40 Sprague-Dawley rats, and the rats underwent pain model assessment through behavioral tests. Twenty Sprague-Dawley rats underwent a sham operation as the control group. Thirteen pain rats and 8 control rats received Rs-fMRI examination to explore the brain functional activity areas, and the regional homogeneity (ReHo) method was used to analyze relevant functional signals among the whole brain. The states of neurons and expression of TRPV1 and NMDRA located in the abnormal ReHo signal brain regions were observed using Nissl staining, qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry. Results The rats were divided into a pain group and a control group based on the different syndromes and behavioral assessments. We detected significant enhancement of ReHo signals in the anterior cingulate cortex, hippocampus, and thalamus and a reduction in the ReHo values in the basomedial amygdaloid nucleus (BM) and primary motor cortex (M1) in the pain rat group via Rs-fMRI examination. The number of Nissl bodies and apoptotic neurons was increased; moreover, the volume of neurons increased compensatorily in the cingulate cortex, thalamus and hippocampus in the pain group. TRPV1 and NMDRA were overexpressed in apoptotic neurons in the higher ReHo value brain regions in the endometriosis pain group. Conclusion These findings suggest that in rats with endometriosis-associated pain, ReHo signal enhancement was observed in the cingulate cortex, thalamus and hippocampus, which may be due to the increase in the number of apoptotic neurons or the compensatory increase in the volume of overactive neurons.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Individuals with non-acute pain are challenged with variable pain responses following surgery as well as psychological challenges, particularly depression and catastrophizing. The purpose of this study was to compare pre- and postoperative psychosocial tests and the associated presence of sensitization on a cohort of women undergoing elective laparoscopic surgery for non-acute pain defined as pain sufficient for surgical investigation without persistent of chronic pain. METHODS The study was a secondary analysis of a previous report (Am J Obstet Gynecol 2014 Oct;211(4):360-8.). The study was a prospective cohort trial of 77 women; 61 with non-acute pain and 16 women for a tubal ligation. The women had the following tests: Pain Disability Index, Pain Catastrophizing Scale, CES-D (Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale) depression scale and the McGill Pain Scale (short form) as well as their average pain score and the presence of pain sensitization. All test scores were correlated together and comparisons were done using paired t-test. RESULTS There were reductions in pain and psychosocial test scores that were significantly correlated. Pre-operative sensitization indicated greater changes in psychosocial tests. CONCLUSIONS There was a close association of tests of psychosocial status with average pain among women having surgery on visceral tissues. Incorporation of these tests in the pre- and postoperative evaluation of women having laparoscopic surgery appears to provide a means to a broader understanding of the woman's pain experience.
