Abstract
OBJECTIVES This cohort study investigated clinical, functional, and quality of life outcomes, along with prosthetic maintenance events in mandibular overdenture (MO) wearers for 3 years. METHODS Thirty MO wearers with narrow diameter implants (NDIs) and locking taper stud abutments (Facility-Equator system) were annually monitored by registering the visible plaque index (VPI), peri‑implant inflammation (PI), calculus presence (CP), probing depth (PD), bleeding on probing (BOP), secondary implant stability (ISQ), marginal bone loss (MBL), masticatory performance and dental impact in daily life (DIDL) questionnaire domains. Multilevel mixed-effects linear regression was performed to analyse changes over time. Chi-square tests were performed to analyse the relationship between the appearance of prosthetic complications and maintenance occurrences. The survival rate of patients with NDIs was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier test. RESULTS Twenty-six individuals attended all follow-ups, the survival rate of 83.3% in the first year was maintained, and no one implant was lost over the 3-year period. There were significant differences for PD between 1 and 3 years (p ≤ 0.01) and between 2 and 3 years for PI (p ≤ 0.01), GI (p ≤ 0.01), ISQ (p = 0.02), and MBL (p ≤ 0.01). All masticatory performance outcomes showed significant differences (p ≤.01). Prosthetic maintenance events decreased significantly over time. Appearance, general performance, and eating and chewing domains presented high effect sizes. CONCLUSION Continued changes were observed in the clinical parameters of MO users over the 3-year period. In addition, most functional parameters, except for particle homogenization, improved significantly over time. The positive impact on quality of life is likely related to the significant reduction in prosthetic maintenance events. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Periodic returns to assess peri‑implant tissues and MO maintenance should be performed to ensure the success of rehabilitation to assure improvements in masticatory function and oral health-related quality of life.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare peri-implant clinical and radiographic parameters between hydrophilic and hydrophobic narrow dental implants in patients with mandibular implant overdentures for 1 year. MATERIALS AND METHODS In a randomized, double-blind, split-mouth study with a 1-year follow-up, sixteen edentulous participants received two narrow-diameter implants in the anterior mandibular region with 2 types of surfaces: hydrophobic (Neoporos surface, NS) and hydrophilic (Acqua surface, AS). During the osseointegration period and after loading with mandibular implant overdentures, the outcomes monitored were (i) peri-implant health: early healing index (EHI), visible plaque index (VPI), calculus presence (CP), peri-implant inflammation (PI), probing depth (PD), and bleeding on probing (BOP); (ii) implant stability quotient (ISQ), (iii) crestal bone loss (CBL) and bone level change (BLC); and (iv) implant success and survival rates. RESULTS The PD in NS implants decreased by 31.78% between 15 and 30 days, while a similar reduction (-31.28%) occurred in the 3rd month in the AS group. The ISQ also decreased significantly during the 1st month in both groups: -10.95% after 7 days in the NS group and -7.46% after 15 days in the AS group. At 12 months, statistically significant differences were not observed; however, the AS surface presented 50.6% smaller CBL and 41.3% smaller BLC values. The success and survival rates were 62.5% for AS implants and 87.5% for NS implants. CONCLUSION Narrow-diameter implants with hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces loaded with mandibular implant overdentures showed no differences in peri-implant healing, stability, and peri-implant bone remodeling in the 1st year of follow-up.

Abstract
To assess the role of prefabricated SFI-Bar in peri-implant bone loss around immediately axially loaded and straight implants. This study comprised of 40 complete denture wearer patients who received two axially parallel implants connected by SFI-Bars in group I and two 15° mesially tilted implants connected by SFI-Bars in group II. Peri- implant bone loss (PiBL) was measured at 1 year, 2 years and 3 years. The mean PiBL at 1 year in group I was 0.21 mm and I group II was 0.22, at 2 years in group I was 0.26 mm and in group II was 0.23 mm and at 3 years, in group I was 0.29 mm and in group II was 0.34 mm. The difference was significant at 3 years (P< 0.05). The mean mesial PIBL at 1 year in group I was 0.18 mm, in group II was 0.20 mm, at 2 years in group I was 0.19 mm and in group II was 0.07 mm and at 3 years, in group I was 0.25 mm and in group II was 0.29 mm. The difference found to be significant in each time duration in both groups (P< 0.05).The mean distal PIBL at 1 year in group I was 0.23 mm, in group II was 0.22 mm, at 2 years in group I was 0.33 mm and in group II was 0.39 mm and at 3 years, in group I was 0.34 mm and in group II was 0.39 mm. The difference found to be significant at 2 and 3 years in both groups (P< 0.05). Authors found that mandibular overdentures retained with Prefabricated SFI-Bar with axial and straight inserted implants may be useful in patients with reduced bone height.

Abstract
This clinical study aimed to clinically and radiographically compare the implant survival rate and peri-implant tissue response between immediate and delayed loading protocols for unsplinted implant retained mandibular overdentures. Twenty patients were enrolled to participate in this study. Each subject was randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatment groups: test group patients' implants (n = 10), which were immediately loaded, and control group patients' implants (n = 10), which were conventionally loaded. Locator abutments were torqued to 15 Ncm at delivery. Attachments were picked up intraorally immediately after implant placement for the test group and at 3 months for the control group, and 3-lb retention inserts were placed. Marginal bone levels based on cone beam computed tomography fixed reference points were recorded at baseline and 12 months. Modified plaque index, gingival index, and implant stability quotients were recorded at baseline, 3 months, and 12 months. After 12 months, implant survival rate was 100% in both groups. Marginal bone levels, keratinized mucosa, modified plaque index, and gingival index were significantly different among the groups at 3- and 12-month intervals, whereas no significant differences were found in implant stability quotients between the groups. The fact that implant survival rate was 100% in both treatment groups suggests that, within the limitations of this study, immediate loading protocol for unsplinted implant retained mandibular complete overdenture is as predictable, safe, and successful as the delayed loading protocol. Implementing the immediate loading protocol for mandibular implant retained overdentures could shorten treatment time, which could lead to better patient's satisfaction.

Abstract
The stability of the implant at the time of placement and during the development of the osseointegration process are the two major issues governing the implant survival. Implant stability is a mechanical phenomenon related to local factors such as bone quality, quantity, type of placement technique and type of implant used. The application of a user-friendly, clinically reliable, non-invasive method to assess implant stability and the osseointegration process is considered highly desirable. Resonance frequency analysis (RFA) is one such method which shows almost perfect reproducibility and repeatability after statistical analysis. The aim of this paper is to review the various methods used to assess implant stability and on the currently used RFA method which is being highly accepted in the recent times.

Abstract
PURPOSE The present article describes a novel clinical procedure for mandibular overdentures supported by two freestanding implants loaded immediately after placement via computer-guided flapless surgery. METHODS A conventional acrylic complete denture was fabricated, and CT scans obtained using the denture as a radiographic guide. Preoperative computer-assisted planning was performed using commercially available software, permitting simulation of implant placement at optimal positions. Using simulation data, a surgical guide was manufactured and used during surgery. The surgical guide was placed and local anesthesia injected for drilling of anchor pins to stabilize the surgical guide. The drilling protocol for each osteotomy site achieved an insertion torque greater than 35 Ncm. Immediately after implant placement, a keeper of the magnetic attachment was connected to each implant, and the magnetic assembly incorporated into the denture. The mucosal surface of the denture around the magnet was relieved to avoid excessive tissue pressure. The patients were instructed to wear the denture in place continually for the following 7 days. After six months of healing and follow-up, a final denture with a metal framework may be fabricated if necessary. CONCLUSION A novel treatment protocol for immediately loaded implant-supported mandibular overdentures is described in detail. The protocol ensures secure precise and safe implant placement, successful osseointegration, and immediate improvement of oral health-related quality of life for patients with unstable complete dentures.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This clinical study measured the dimensional changes of existing lower complete dentures due to the integration of a prefabricated implant bar. Additionally, the impact of this dimensional change on patient satisfaction and oral function was analyzed. METHODS Twenty edentulous patients (10 men/10 women; aged 65.9 ± 11.8 years) received two interforaminal implants. Subsequent to surgery, a chair side adapted, prefabricated bar (SFI Bar(®), C+M, Biel, Switzerland) was inserted, and the matrix was polymerized into the existing lower denture. The change of the denture's lingual dimension was recorded by means of a bicolored, silicone denture duplicate that was sectioned in the oro-vestibular direction in the regions of the symphysis (S) and the implants (I-left, I-right). On the sections, the dimensional increase was measured using a light microscope. Six months after bar insertion, patients answered a standardized questionnaire. RESULTS All dentures exhibited increased lingual volume, more extensively at S than at I (P = 0.001). At S, the median diagonal size of the denture was doubled (+4.33 mm), and at I, the median increase was 50% (I-left/-right = +2.66/+2.62 mm). The original denture size influenced the volume increase (P = 0.024): smaller dentures led to a larger increase. The amount of denture increase did not have negative impact on either self-perceived oral function or patient satisfaction. Approximately, 95% of the patients were satisfied with the treatment results. CONCLUSIONS The lingual size of a lower denture was enlarged by the integration of a prefabricated bar without any negative side effects. Thus, this attachment system is suitable to convert an existing full denture into an implant-supported overdenture.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The study aims to evaluate survival and the incidence of complications for pairs of implants placed in the frontal area of edentulous mandibles and immediately loaded with either bar or Locator® (Zest Anchors LLC, Escondido, CA, USA) attachments. MATERIAL AND METHODS Forty-six patients (mean age 69.4 years; 73.9% male) with edentulous mandibles each received two immediately loaded implants in the interforaminal area of the symphysis. Immediately after implant placement, Dolder® bar (Sub-Tec Wirobond; BEGO Implant Systems GmbH & Co. KG, Bremen, Germany) or Locator® attachments, allocated randomly, were attached, and both clips and a framework were incorporated into the denture by the dental technician. The implants were loaded within 72 hours. RESULTS During a mean observation period of 6 months (maximum 24 months, SD 0.43) eight implants in five patients were lost. Survival was 93.5% for the Locator® group and 89.1% for the bar group. Estimated cumulative survival after 1 year of function was 93.4% for the Locator® group and 87.1% for the bar group. During the observation period, 12 prosthetic complications required aftercare. No superstructure was lost or had to be remade for prosthetic reasons, but five dentures had to be removed or reworked after implant failure. Survival of the original dentures was, therefore, 95.7% for the Locator® group and 93.5% for the bar group. CONCLUSION Within the limitations of this study, immediate loading of two implants in the edentulous mandible with either Locator® or bar attachments did hardly differ. Ease of repair and cleaning, in particular, might be arguments for choosing the single attachment system.

Abstract
This review summarizes the present documentation for the SLActive surface, a hydrophilic and nanostructured surface produced by Straumann Company in Switzerland, and covers the results from 15 in vitro, 17 in vivo, and 16 clinical studies. The SLActive surface is a development of the large grit-blasted and acid-etched SLA surface, and is further processed to a high degree of hydrophilicity. In general, the in vitro and in vivo studies of the SLActive surface demonstrate a stronger cell and bone tissue response than for the predecessor, the SLA surface, produced by the same company. However, in most studies, this difference disappears after 6-8 weeks. In the clinical studies, a stronger bone response was reported for the SLActive surface during the early healing phase when compared with the SLA surface. However, the later biological response was quite similar for the two surfaces and both demonstrated very good clinical results.
