Abstract
Psoriasis is a complex disease that nowadays is considered not only a dermatosis but a kind of systemic disorder associated with many accompanying diseases. Metabolic complications leading to cardiovascular incidences are the cause of increased mortality in psoriatic patients. Galectins (gal) are beta-galactoside-binding lectins that exert different functions, including engagement in metabolic processes. Our aim was to assess the concentrations of gal-1, 2 and 12 in psoriatics, to establish their potential clinical implications, including in metabolic complications. Plasma galectins were assessed by ELISA in 60 psoriatic patients and 30 controls without dermatoses and a negative family history of psoriasis. Plasma concentrations of all galectins were significantly higher in patients than controls (gal-1 with p < 0.001, gal-2 and 12 with p < 0.05). There were no correlations between galectins concentrations and psoriasis severity in PASI or disease duration (p > 0.05). Gal-1 and 12 were significantly negatively correlated with GFR (p < 0.05, p < 0.01, respectively) and gal-2 with HDL (p < 0.05). Gal-2 was significantly positively correlated with CRP (p < 0.05) and gal-12 with fasting glucose (p < 0.01). Based on the results and given the reported role of galectins in metabolic disorders we may conclude that gal-1, 2 and 12 could be potentially engaged in metabolic complications in psoriatics, most probably in atherosclerosis. Gal-2 could be perhaps further investigated as a marker of metabolically induced inflammation in psoriasis, gal-1 and gal-12 as predictors of renal impairment in psoriatics due to metabolic disorders. Potentially, gal-12 could be considered in the future as a marker of carbohydrate metabolism disorders in psoriatics.

Abstract
Psoriasis is one of the most common skin diseases in dermatological practice. It affects about 1–3% of the general population and is associated with different comorbidities, especially metabolic syndrome. Fatty-acid-binding proteins (FABPs) are a family of cytosolic proteins which are an important link in lipid metabolism and transport; moreover, they have different tissue specificity and properties. So far, ten FABPs have been discovered and seven have been investigated in psoriasis. In this review, we discuss the nature of all FABPs and their role in psoriasis. FABPs have different organ and tissue expression, and hence various functions, and may be markers of different disorders. Considering the concentration of a few of them tends to be elevated in psoriasis, it confirms the current perception of psoriasis as a multiorgan disorder associated with plenty of comorbidities. Some FABPs may be also further investigated as biomarkers of psoriasis organ complications. FABP-1 and FABP-5 may become potential markers of metabolic complications and inflammation in psoriasis. FABP-7 could perhaps be further investigated as an indicator of the neurodegenerative processes in psoriatic patients.

Abstract
Simple Summary Galectin-3 (gal-3) regulates many different biological processes and diseases, which are common accompanying diseases of psoriasis. Psoriasis is one of the most common skin diseases. There is little information about potential diagnostic role of gal-3 in psoriasis. Serum gal-3 concentrations were measured before and after twelve weeks of antipsoriatic treatment in patients with psoriasis and compared to 11 persons without psoriasis (control group). Serum gal-3 level in patients with psoriasis was significantly higher compared to the control group. In obese patients and long-lasting psoriasis positive relations of gal-3 and index of psoriasis severity were noted. In psoriatics with low gal-3 levels, it was noted that the higher the gal-3, the higher the BMI and glucose level. In patients with long history of psoriasis it was observed that the higher gal-3, the lower the lipids levels. The Gal-3 level might be a factor affecting the course of psoriasis and useful in prediction of cardiometabolic comorbidities, especially in patients with a long history of the disease or obesity. Patients with low serum gal-3 and a short history of psoriasis may have greater risk of diabetes. In obese patients with long-lasting psoriasis, gal-3 may have a beneficial influence against abnormal lipid profiles or perhaps further cardiovascular disorder development. Abstract Galectin-3 (gal-3) is a multifunctional regulator of various biological processes and diseases, which are common comorbidities in psoriasis. Data regarding potential diagnostic role of gal-3 in psoriasis are insufficient. Serum gal-3 levels were evaluated before and after twelve weeks of treatment with acitretin or methotrexate in 31 patients with plaque-type psoriasis and compared to 11 healthy control group. The mean serum galectin-3 level in patients with psoriasis was significantly higher compared to the control group (p < 0.01). In patients with obesity and long-lasting psoriasis (>20 years) positive relations of gal-3 and PASI were noted. In psoriatics with low gal-3 levels, positive correlations between the gal-3 and BMI, glucose level, and with the latter in short-lasting psoriasis (<20 years) were noted. In the long history of psoriasis, gal-3 was negatively correlated with lipids levels. The Gal-3 level might be a multifaceted modulator of the course of psoriasis and predictive factor of cardiometabolic comorbidities’ development, especially in patients with a long history of the disease or obesity. Patients with low serum gal-3 and short history of psoriasis are presumably at greater risk of diabetes. In patients with long-lasting psoriasis and concomitant obesity, gal-3 may exert a protective role against dyslipidemia or perhaps further CMD development.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Galectin-3 is a β-galactoside-binding lectin associated with cellular proliferation, inflammation and angiogenesis, which are the major characteristics of psoriatic skin. OBJECTIVES To investigate serum galectin-3 levels in psoriasis patients compared with healthy controls and to study its relationship with disease characteristics. METHODS Seventy-eight patients diagnosed with psoriasis and 78 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers were included in the study. Serum galectin-3, IL-17, IL-6 and TNF-α levels were measured using Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS Serum Galectin-3, IL-17, IL-6 and TNF-α levels were significantly higher in psoriasis patients compared with control group (P < .001, P = .003, P < .001 and P < .001, respectively). A cut-off value of 10 ng/mL for galectin-3 was set after receiver operating characteristic analysis. A serum galectin-3 level >10 ng/mL increased the risk of psoriasis by 14.5 times (95% CI: 6.6-32.3, P < .001) and a serum galectin-3 level >10 ng/mL predicted psoriasis with 83.3% sensitivity and 74.3% specificity. No statistically significant association was observed between serum galectin-3 concentrations and disease characteristics including disease severity, presence of psoriatic arthritis, nail involvement and psoriatic comorbidity. No statistically significant correlation was observed between serum galectin-3 level and serum IL-17, IL-6 and TNF-α levels (all three P values > .05). CONCLUSIONS Elevated serum galectin-3 levels in psoriasis patients may indicate a possible role of galectin-3 in pathogenesis of psoriasis.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic, autoimmune, and inflammatory disease that affects 2% of the world's population. In recent years, it has been demonstrated that psoriasis confers a 25% increase in relative risk of cardiovascular disease, independent of factors such as hyperlipidemia, smoking, and obesity. The objective of this review was to analyze and describe the association between psoriasis and cardiovascular disease. In this review, we describe the epidemiological association of psoriasis and cardiovascular disease, pathophysiology, mechanisms, and its association with the well-known cardiovascular risk calculators. In addition, we describe diagnostic tools, such as imaging techniques and novel biomarkers, that are useful in the evaluation of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Finally, we present different systemic therapies that are used in patients with psoriasis and their effect on atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. This article provides an overview of the current literature on psoriasis and cardiovascular risk, which can be useful for primary care physicians in their daily clinical practice.

Abstract
Background Left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LVGLS), circumferential strain (LVGCS) and radial strain (LVGRS) are echocardiographic parameters with wide clinical applicability. However, the thresholds for abnormal left ventricular (LV) strains, particularly the lower limits of normal (LLN), are not well established. This meta-analysis determined the mean and LLN of two- (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) LV strain in healthy subjects and factors that influence strain measurements. Methods We searched PubMed, Embase and Cochrane databases until 31 December 2019 for studies reporting left ventricular (LV) global strain in at least 50 healthy subjects. We pooled means and LLNs of 2D and 3D LV strain using random-effects models, and performed subgroup and meta-regression analysis for LVGLS. Results Forty-four studies were eligible totaling 8,910 subjects. The pooled means and LLNs (95% confidence intervals) were -20.1% (-20.7%, -19.6%) and -15.4% (-16.0%, -14.7%) respectively for 2D-LVGLS; -21.9% (-23.4%, -20.3%) and -15.3% (-16.9%, -13.8%) respectively for 2D-LVGCS; and 48.4% (43.8%, 53.0%) and 25.5% (17.8%, 33.1%) respectively for 2D-LVGRS. All pooled analyses demonstrated significant heterogeneity, and means and LLNs of and 3D-LV strains differed marginally from 2D. Only vendor software was associated with differences in pooled means and LLN of 2D-LVGLS. Conclusions In conclusion, pooled means and LLNs of 2D- and 3D-LV global strain parameters in healthy subjects were reported. Based on the pooled LLNs, thresholds for abnormal, borderline and normal strains can be defined, such as less negative than -14.7%, between -14.7% and -16.0% and more negative than -16.0% respectively for 2D-LVGLS, and 2D-LVGLS values are only affected by vendor software.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In the next future, dermatologists, endocrinologist and physicians may cope with the impact of extent SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection over chronic inflammatory skin diseases and their treatment. COVID-19 pandemic obliged many countries to impose social restrictions, resulting in the need to adapt daily lifestyle habits and working activities. These changes have drastically reduced physical activity and social interactions, with the possible increase of anxiety, eating disorders and weight gain. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION We searched for relevant studies (trials, real-life studies and case reports, meta-analysis, pooled data analysis, reviews) on endocrine disorders and inflammatory skin diseases. The database used was PubMed. The studies included were those published in the English language between January 1, 2018 and May 5, 2020. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS Several studies have been previously showed the association of overweight and obesity, with the metabolic syndrome and insulin-resistance. It has been demonstrated how these conditions correlate with the worsening of such chronic inflammatory skin diseases, such as psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa and acne. Many evidences suggest an important role of adipose tissue in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (Leptin, adiponectin, TNFα, IL-6, MCP-1, PAI-1), involved in the pathogenesis and the exacerbations of these skin diseases. In addition, we should expect an increasing incidence rate of hypovitaminosis D in the next future due to reduced sun exposure caused by isolation at home and missed holidays. Scientific evidences already show the important immunomodulating role of vitamin D in inflammatory skin diseases. CONCLUSIONS Our study pays attention on medium-long term effects of COVID-19 outbreak on inflammatory skin disorders, due to the lifestyle changes. In such context this review considers how a multidisciplinary approach, involving dermatologists, nutritionists and endocrinologists, may lead to a better management of dermatologic patients.

Abstract
The dermal fibroblasts are in constant contact with the cells of the immune system and skin epidermis. Therefore, they are essential for the development of lesions in psoriasis. The aim of this study was to assess the changes in the proteomic profile of fibroblasts in the dermis of psoriasis patients, and to discuss the most significant changes and their potential consequences. The proteomic results indicate that fibroblast dysfunction arises from the upregulation of proinflammatory factors and antioxidant proteins, as well as those involved in signal transduction and participating in proteolytic processes. Moreover, downregulated proteins in psoriatic fibroblasts are mainly responsible for the transcription/translation processes, glycolysis/ adenosine triphosphate synthesis and structural molecules. These changes can directly affect intercellular signaling and promote the hyperproliferation of epidermal cells. A better understanding of the metabolic effects of the proteomic changes observed could guide the development of new pharmacotherapies for psoriasis.
