Abstract
In recent years, laminate veneer restorations should be considered as a minimally invasive treatment option for several aesthetic reasons. This study compared direct composite veneers' and indirect ceramic laminate veneers' longevity in multiple diastema closures. A total of 28 patients with a mean age of 26 years received 60 direct resin composite (Estelite Asteria; n = 14) and 60 indirect ceramic veneers (IPS e.max Press; n = 14) on the maxillary anterior teeth with diastema closure. Veneers were evaluated at baseline and thereafter every 6 months for up to 2 years using USPHS criteria. Data were analyzed with Fisher's exact and chi-squared tests, while Kaplan-Meier curve was used to assess time to event. In total, three failures were observed in the form of debonding (n = 1) and fracture (n = 2) in the indirect ceramic veneers. No significant difference was observed between the survival rates of composite and ceramic veneers (Estelite Asteria: 93.4%, IPS e.max Press: 95%; p > 0.05). The overall survival rate was 94.2% (Kaplan-Meier). Staining (n = 11) and roughness (n = 14) were frequently observed for the resin composite veneers up to the final recall. Thereby, the preliminary results from this clinical trial comparing two veneer materials indicated that their survival rates were statistically similar. However, surface quality changes were more frequent in the composite veneer material.

Abstract
This 72-month study compared the clinical effectiveness of a resin-based composite (RBC) (Spectrum TPH3, Dentsply Sirona) with a resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) (Riva Light Cure, SDI) in restoring cervical caries lesions (CCLs). Thirty-three patients, each with at least two CCLs, were enrolled. After caries removal, the dimensions of the cavities were recorded. In a split-mouth study design, a total of 110 restorations were randomly placed. Fifty-five restorations were placed with RBC using an etch-and-rinse adhesive system (Prime&Bond NT, Dentsply Sirona), while the remaining 55 were restored with RMGIC. The restorations were assessed at baseline, 6, 12, 18, 24, 36, 60, and 72 months according to modified USPHS criteria. Statistical analysis included Pearson Chi-square, Friedman tests, Kaplan Meier, and Logistic Regression analysis (p < 0.05). After 72 months, 47 restorations in 19 patients were evaluated (55% follow-up rate). Seventy-five percent of the RBC (n = 26) and 74% (n = 21) of the RMGIC restorations were fully retained. There were no significant differences between materials regarding retention and marginal adaptation (p > 0.05). Cavity dimensions, caries activity, and retention exhibited no correlation (p > 0.05). The increase in marginal staining in both groups over time was significant (p < 0.001). RMGIC restorations exhibited higher discoloration than RBC restorations (p = 0.014). At 72 months, three secondary caries lesions were detected in both restoration groups: two RMGIC and one RBC. There were no reports of sensitivity. After 72 months, both RBC and RMGIC restorations were clinically successful, with similar retention and marginal adaptation scores. However, it is noteworthy that RMGIC restorations tend to discoloration over time compared to RBC. The trial is registered in the database of "Clinical Trials". Abstract
INTRODUCTION The acquisition of skills and manual dexterity in aesthetic dentistry in undergraduate teaching requires preclinical practices with simulation that should approximate real clinical situations. OBJECTIVE We will present a digital procedure for the creation of three-dimensional (3D) resin models adapted to the practices of the Aesthetic Dentistry course. MATERIAL AND METHOD Stereolithography or Standard Tesellation Language (STL) files of a real patient were previously obtained with a 3-shape intraoral scanner. Using the Exocad computer programme for dental prosthesis design, various modifications were made, such as incisor rotation, surface alterations imitating dysplasias or erosions, the creation of diastemas, or even changes in tooth size. The virtual model was printed in resin for use by students. Once the practices were finished, the students and the teachers evaluated the use of the 3D printed models. RESULTS The result is the typodont model, in which seven laboratory sessions took place: 1-Restoration of conoid tooth morphology, 2-Cervical abrasion/ erosion restoration, 3-Direct Composite Veneer, 4-Aesthetic correction in a tooth with rotation, 5-Diastem closure, 6-Occlusal abrasions/ erosion, and 7-Maryland bridge. 90.48% of the students evaluated the designed 3D model as the best method for laboratory practice compared to other methods, obtaining a general assessment of 8.3 out of 10. CONCLUSION The method used has provided a reproducible standard analog model for direct aesthetic dental restoration practice, with a good assessment by students and teachers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This article presents case reports highlighting over-treatments with resin composites, often misconceived as minimally invasive procedures. CLINICAL CONSIDERATIONS Tooth-colored restorative materials, such as ceramics and composites, have found widespread application to correct problems related to tooth color, shape, and alignment. When composite resin is used, these procedures can be done in a very conservative, cost-effective, and timely fashion. However, it is noteworthy that contemporary dental esthetic expectations are based on standards propagated by social media and other marketing and communications platforms. The abuse of and addiction to social media impacts can lead to unrealistic esthetic expectations and standards for both patients and dentists. CONCLUSIONS After a critical discussion on ceramic veneers published in part I of this 2-part series, this article directs attention towards what has become a trendy fashion, i.e., the use of direct composite resins as "non-prep" veneers in clinical situations that arguably required no restorative intervention at all. We further explore how social media influences the decision-making processes of both professionals and patients.

Abstract
The objectives of this study was to evaluate the effects of background color and restoration depth on color adjustment potential of a new single-shade resin composite versus multi-shade resin composites. Two multi-shade resin composites (Spectrum TPH3 and Clearfil AP-X) marked A2 shade and a new single-shade resin composite (Charisma Diamond One) were tested. Four base shades (A1, A2, A3, and A3.5) of the same resin composite (Filtek Z250) were selected as different background colors. Dual specimens with 1-, 2-, and 3-mm restoration depth and single specimens of all materials were fabricated. CIE color coordinates were measured using a spectrophotometer, then color differences (∆E00) and translucency parameter (TP00) were calculated using the CIEDE2000 formula. Independent observers performed visual scoring. CAP-I and CAP-V values were calculated according to ΔE00 and visual scoring. The results revealed that CAP-I and CAP-V were significantly affected by resin composite type, background color, and restoration depth. CAP-I and CAP-V decreased as restoration depth increased at the same background color for all materials. Charisma Diamond One had the highest CAP-I and CAP-V values at all background colors and restoration depths, with the highest TP00 value. These findings demonstrated that color adjustment potential was dependent on resin composite type, background color, and restoration depth, so shade selection is indispensable for multi-shade resin composites. Charisma Diamond One exhibited the highest color adjustment potential and the most pronounced color shifting, contributing to simplifying the process of shade selection and improving the efficiency of clinical work.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate clinical outcome of maxillary midline diastema closure using sectional feldspathic porcelain veneers up to 4 years. MATERIALS AND METHODS Five female patients with stable maxillary midline diastema were included in the current study and restored with minimal invasive sectional feldspathic porcelain veneers under dental microscope. Esthetic, functional, as well as biologic properties of sectional veneers were evaluated according to the World Dental Federation (FDI) criteria after 1 to 4 years' follow-up. RESULTS Based on FDI criteria, all five cases were evaluated as clinically excellent to satisfactory during a mean observation period of 26.4 months. Slight to moderate cervical marginal staining was observed in two cases after 3 to 4 years' follow-up. Slight white line or ditching of labial surface margin was found in most cases, but it is not easy to be noticed with saliva covering the margins. CONCLUSIONS Sectional feldspathic porcelain veneers presented satisfying clinical outcome with potential long-term esthetic risk for maxillary midline diastema closure. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE 1. Sectional feldspathic porcelain veneers presented satisfying short to medium term clinical performance when applied to close maxillary midline diastema. 2. The exposure of labial surface margin may increase a long-term potential esthetic risk.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the clinical performance of restorations with ground and unground enamel for diastema closure. METHODS AND MATERIALS Twenty-four patients attended and received two to ten composite build-ups for diastema closure. The restorations were performed separately by grinding and not grinding the enamel on the proximal surfaces on symmetric teeth. A nanofill direct composite (Filtek Ultimate Universal Restorative System, 3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA) was used with a three-step etch-and-rinse adhesive (Scotchbond Multi-Purpose, 3M ESPE) for restorations. Restorations were evaluated according to the modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria at baseline and 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-year recalls. RESULTS The cumulative success rate of direct composite build-up with ground and unground enamel was 100% and 88.7%, respectively. Six restorations with unground enamel failed due to fracture. No significant difference was found between the restorations with ground enamel and unground enamel with regard to the evaluation criteria. CONCLUSION The 5-year success rates of restorations with ground and unground enamel were excellent. The success rate of restorations with ground enamel was higher than that of restorations with unground enamel. Fracture was the reason for failure in the restorations with unground enamel.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM One of the major challenges in restorative dentistry is to provide optimal esthetics in a minimally invasive way. The optimization of dental esthetics and function is directly related to the position and alignment of the anterior teeth, but whether prerestorative clear aligner therapy will enhance esthetics and minimize restorative needs is unclear. PURPOSE The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the effect of prerestorative maxillary and mandibular second premolar to second premolar clear aligner therapy in minimizing the need for restorative treatment. MATERIAL AND METHODS Fifty adult patients treated with clear aligners (Invisalign Go; Align Technology) were included in this study. Previously generated 3-dimensional orthodontic simulations and clinical photographs in the ClinCheck/6.0 software program were used. Three restorative treatment plans for each participant were generated for initial (no aligners), Express (after using 7 aligners), and Lite Packages (after using 20 aligners) by 2 blinded restorative dentistry instructors. The maxillary and mandibular teeth in the smile-line (to the second premolars) were included. Assessment criteria were the estimated number of restorations, restoration surfaces and preparations and incisal edge inclusion, and the need for gingival leveling. The Friedman test and Cochran Q test were used for statistical analyses (α=.05). RESULTS A strong positive correlation was found between the 2 instructors (P<.001). Estimated number of restorations (10 [3 to 16]a) decreased significantly for Express (6 [0 to 14]b) and Lite Packages (4 [0 to 8]c) (P<.001). The estimated number of restoration surfaces (28.5 [9 to 48]a) decreased significantly for Express (15 [0 to 42]b) and Lite Packages (9.5 [0 to 24]c) (P<.001). While the estimated number of teeth to be prepared for recontouring (7 [0 to 16]a) was significantly less for Express (3 [0 to 10]b) and Lite Packages (0 [0 to 4]c) (P<.001), the incisal edge inclusion (10 [3 to 16]a) was significantly less for Express (6 [0 to 14]b) and Lite Packages (4 [0 to 8]c) (P<.001). The need for gingival leveling (26 [52%]a) decreased significantly for Express (20 [40%]a) and Lite Packages (7 [14%]b) (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS Prerestorative short-term clear aligner therapy might conserve tooth structure and reduce the number of restorations. The application of the Invisalign Lite Package was more effective than the Invisalign Express Package for second premolar to second premolar alignment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this retrospective evaluation was to assess the short-term outcome of two monoshade universal resin composites with high chameleon effect in anterior direct veneer and diastema closure restorations, and to investigate the possible reasons for failure. MATERIAL AND METHODS Patients subjected to veneer and diastema closure restorations with two monoshade universal resin composites (Essentia Universal Shade; EU, GC Corp., and Omnichroma; OC, Tokuyama) operated between January 2018 and March 2019 were selected for the present retrospective evaluation. A total of 159 composite restorations (78 veneers and 81 diastema closure restorations) performed by a single operator in 44 patients (mean age: 33.6) were included in the study. Two blinded and calibrated examiners performed 1- and 2-year assessments of the restorations with respect to FDI criteria, using medical/clinical history and dental photography records. Data were analyzed using Pearson Chi-square with Continuity Correction, Fisher's Exact tests, and Cox regression (a < 0.05). RESULTS The cumulative overall survival rates of EU and OC restorations were 94.6% (97.3% for the first year) and 88.6% (95.3% for the first year), respectively, with no significant difference from each other (p = 0.316). The cumulative overall survival rates of direct veneer and diastema closure restoration types were 90.2% (95.1% for the first year) and 92.4% (97.4% for the first year), respectively, with no significant difference (p = 0.559). The reasons for failure were evaluated as fracture of the restoration, failure in esthetic anatomical form, and color mismatch. All the failed direct veneer restorations were due to fractures (FDI score of 5.4), whereas 5 of 6 failed diastema closure restorations were due to color mismatch (FDI score of 3.4). Regarding the composite materials, there were no significant differences between the success rates of the restoration types (p = 0.442 for EU, p = 1.000 for OC). With respect to the restoration types, there were also no significant differences between the success rates of the resin-based composites (p = 1.000 for direct veneer restorations and p = 0.228 for the diastema closure restorations). In addition, no significant difference was observed between male and female patients regarding the acceptable and unacceptable scores (p = 1.000). CONCLUSIONS The 2-year clinical performance of the two monoshade universal composites in anterior veneer and diastema closure restorations were both considered successful and similar. Despite the lack of shade selection, both monoshade universal composites presented a successful color match. However, the diastema closure restorations might be more prone to color mismatch compared to the veneers over time, while veneer restorations presented more fractures than the diastema closure restorations. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Monoshade universal composites presented successful short-term clinical outcomes regarding both function and esthetics in anterior direct veneer and diastema closure restorations.

Abstract
Macroabrasion is a technique for the removal of localized white spots using a high-speed, intermittent high speed turbine finishing diamond tip. It is fast, safe, efficient, and an alternative to enamel microabrasion. However, when the stain is deeper, these localized intrinsic stains or defects can be treated with partial direct veneers. A conservative preparation should be done and that allows stratification of the resin to mask the hypoplasia and provide naturalness to the tooth. Thus, the objective of this work is to demonstrate, through a clinical case, macroabrasion and a partial veneer from the preparation, restoration, to the finishing and polishing to remove hypoplastic stains.

Abstract
A novel procedure for symmetric and consistent layer thickness management in esthetic direct restoration of anterior teeth is presented. For the purpose of obtaining a satisfactory final outcome of an esthetic direct restoration, it is crucial to standardize either margin preparation design and dentin and enamel layer thickness. Leaving too much space for the final translucent layer may lead in fact to “low value—gray” restorations if not correctly managed. The most common tool used to check layer thickness is the sagittal silicone index, which is reliable but involves planning; therefore, it requires two stages appointments. In this clinical case, a novel procedure is used to prepare, to model and to check thickness of composite shades in a single appointment, thus providing a symmetric esthetic outcome. A healthy 21-year-old woman referred to our dental office for the esthetic rehabilitation of both maxillary central incisors. The correct composite bilateral and symmetric layer thickness management provided a predictable esthetic outcome of the restorations. The main objective of this case presentation is to describe a novel technique that is able to save chair-time and dental laboratory costs during direct restorations in anterior teeth.
