Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Colorectal cancer is the second deadliest cancer in the world, and its prevalence has been increasing alarmingly in recent years. After researchers discovered the existence of dysbiosis in colorectal cancer, they considered the use of probiotics in the treatment of colorectal cancer. However, for various reasons, including the low safety profile of probiotics in susceptible and immunocompromised patient5s, and the risk of developing antibiotic resistance, researchers have shifted their focus to non-living cells, their components, and metabolites. This review aims to comprehensively evaluate the literature on the effects of diet, microbiota, and postbiotics on colorectal cancer and the future of postbiotics. RECENT FINDINGS The link between diet, gut microbiota, and colorectal cancer has been established primarily as a relationship rather than a cause-effect relationship. The gut microbiota can convert gastrointestinal tract and dietary factors into either onco-metabolites or tumor suppressor metabolites. There is serious dysbiosis in the microbiota in colorectal cancer. Postbiotics appear to be promising agents in the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer. It has been shown that various postbiotics can selectively induce apoptosis in CRC, inhibit cell proliferation, growth, invasion, and migration, modulate the immune system, suppress carcinogenic signaling pathways, maintain intestinal epithelial integrity, and have a synergistic effect with chemotherapy drugs. However, it is also reported that some postbiotics are ineffective and may be risky in terms of safety profile in some patients. Many issues need to be researched about postbiotics. Large-scale, randomized, double-blind clinical studies are needed.

Abstract
Regardless of etiology, hepatocarcinogenesis is frequently preceded by a distinctive sequence of chronic necroinflammation, compensatory hepatic regeneration, development of hepatic fibrosis, and ultimately cirrhosis. The liver being central immunomodulators, closely maintains immunotolerance. Any dysregulation in this management of immunotolerance is a hallmark of chronic hepatic disease and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Apart from other malignancies, hepatocellular carcinoma accounts for 90% of liver cancers. Several emerging evidences have recognized diet as lifestyle associated risk factor in HCC development. However, natural compounds have the potential to fight hepatoma aggressiveness via inhibition of cellular proliferation and modulation of oncogenic pathways. This review aimed to identify the several plant-based foods for their protective role in HCC prevention by understating the molecular mechanisms involved in inhibition of progression and proliferation of cancer. Information from relevant publications in which several plant-based foods demonstrated protective potential against HCC has been integrated as well as evaluated. For data integration, Science direct, Google scholar, and Scopus websites were used. Nutrition-based approaches in the deterrence of several cancers offer a substantial benefit to currently used medical therapies and should be implemented more often as an adjunct to first-line medical therapy. Furthermore, the inclusion of these plant-based foods (vegetables, fruits, herbs, and spices) may improve general health and decline cancer incidence.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Dietary sources have an abundance of bacteria, mainly lactic acid bacteria (LABs), which have long been regarded as probiotics in humans and animals. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have been used as probiotic agents due to their ability to produce a variety of beneficial compounds for cultivars and their status as safe microorganisms. METHODS In this current study, the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were isolated from several dietary sources such as curd, pickle, milk, and wheat dough. The principal focus of this study was to determine the survivability of these microorganisms in the gastrointestinal tract and to use promising strains to create probiotic drinks with numerous health benefits. The isolates were identified using a combination of morphological, biochemical, molecular and sugar fermentation patterns, like phenotypic characteristics, sugar fermentation, MR-VP reaction, catalase test, urease test, oxidase test, H2S production, NH3 production synthesis from arginine, citrate utilization, indole test, and 16s rRNA sequencing. RESULTS Two (CM1 and OS1) of the 60 isolates obtained showed the best probiotic results and were identified as Lactobacillus acidophilus CM1 and Lactobacillus delbrueckii OS1. These organism sequences were submitted to Gen bank with accession numbers OP811266.1 and OP824643.1, respectively. The acid tolerance test results indicated that most strains could survive significantly in an acidic environment with pH levels of 2 and 3. Similarly, the salt tolerance test results showed that both Lactobacillus acidophilus CM1 and Lactobacillus delbrueckii OS1 could survive at 4 and 6% NaCl levels significantly. The isolates also showed their ability to ferment sugars such as lactose xylose, glucose, sucrose, and fructose. DISCUSSION In conclusion, the study showed that the bacteria isolated from different food sources were indeed probiotic lactic acid bacteria and had probiotic properties. These isolates hold potential for future research in the formulation of millet-based probiotic beverages. However, further studies are required to confirm their effectiveness and safety in improving human health. This research provides a foundation for developing functional foods and drinks that can positively affect human health by incorporating probiotic microorganism.

Abstract
Acrylamide (AA) is a food processing contaminant commonly found in fried and baked food products. In this study, the potential synergistic effect of probiotic formulas in reducing AA was studied. Five selected probiotic strains (Lactiplantibacillus plantarum subsp. plantarum ATCC14917 (L. Pl.), Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus ATCC11842 (L. B.), Lacticaseibacillus paracasei subsp. paracasei ATCC25302 (L. Pa), Streptococcus thermophilus ATCC19258, and Bifidobacterium longum subsp. longum ATCC15707) were selected for investigating their AA reducing capacity. It was found that L. Pl. (108 CFU/mL) showed the highest AA reduction percentage (43-51%) when exposed to different concentrations of AA standard chemical solutions (350, 750, and 1250 ng/mL). The potential synergistic effect of probiotic formulas was also examined. The result demonstrated a synergistic AA reduction effect by the probiotic formula: L. Pl. + L. B., which also showed the highest AA reduction ability among the tested formulas. A further study was conducted by incubating selected probiotic formulas with potato chips and biscuit samples followed by an in vitro digestion model. The findings demonstrated a similar trend in AA reduction ability as those found in the chemical solution. This study firstly indicated the synergistic effect of probiotic formulas on AA reduction and its effect was also highly strain-dependent.

Abstract
In this study, we conducted a qualitative and quantitative analysis of anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, flavonols and triterpenoids in samples of introduced and bred large cranberry fruits from the collection of the National Botanic Garden of Latvia. The highest total anthocyanin levels (8638-9316 µg/g) were detected in the fruit samples of the cranberry cultivars 'Black Veil', 'Franclin' and 'Early Black'. The highest total proanthocyanidin levels (2775-3389 µg/g) were found in cranberries of cultivars 'Kalnciema Agrā', 'Kalnciema Tumšā', 'Searles', 'Howes', and 'Kalnciema Ražīgā'. The highest levels of flavonol compounds (1373-1402 µg/g) were detected in cranberries of cultivars 'Howes', 'Black Veil' and 'Salaspils Melnās'. The highest levels of triterpenoids (5292-5792 µg/g) were determined in cranberries of cultivars 'Kalnciema Agrā', 'Septembra', 'Džbrūklene' and 'Early Black'. The results of our study allow for the estimation of differences in the content of secondary metabolites in the fruit samples of the studied cranberry cultivars and for the selection of promising cultivars for further introduction and cultivation in the climatic conditions of the Baltic countries. These results are also important for the selection of the most promising cranberry cultivars for the preparation of cranberry raw material, and the high-quality composition of plant material ensures the effectiveness of cranberry supplements and other cranberry preparations.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a multifactorial disease. The incidence of this type of cancer in younger patients has increased in recent years, and more strategies are needed to prevent and delay the progression of CRC. Probiotics play an adjunctive role in the prevention and treatment of CRC and can not only prevent the onset and delay the progression of disease but also reduce the side effects after the application of anti-cancer drugs. The anti-cancer effect of individual probiotics has been extensively studied, and the exact curative effect of various probiotics has been found, but the anti-cancer effect of mixed probiotics is still not well summarized. In this review, we discuss the positive effects of mixed probiotics on CRC and the related mechanisms of action, especially VSL#3 (VSL Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Gaithersburg, MD, USA), thus providing new ideas for the treatment of CRC. Moreover, we suggest the need to search for more therapeutic possibilities, especially via the research and application of synbiotics and postbiotics.

Abstract
Over the past decade, scientific evidence for the properties, functions, and beneficial effects of probiotics for humans has continued to accumulate. Interest in the use of probiotics for humans has increased tremendously. Among various microorganisms, probiotics using bacteria have been widely studied and commercialized, and, among them, Lactobacillus is representative. This genus contains about 300 species of bacteria (recently differentiated into 23 genera) and countless strains have been reported. They improved a wide range of diseases including liver disease, gastrointestinal diseases, respiratory diseases, and autoimmune diseases. Here, we intend to discuss in depth the genus Lactobacillus as a representative probiotic for chronic liver diseases.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of γ-irradiation (IR), ultrasound (US), and combined treatments of ultrasound followed by γ-irradiation (US-IR), ultrasound followed by enzymatic hydrolysis with and without centrifugation (US-E and US-EWC, respectively), and ultrasound followed by γ-irradiation and enzymatic hydrolysis (US-IRE), on the digestibility and the nutritional value of fermented beverages containing probiotics. Results showed that US (20 min), IR (3 kGy) and US-IR (tUS = 20 min, dose = 3 kGy) treatments raised protein solubility from 11.5 to 21.5, 24.3 and 29.9%, respectively. According to our results, these treatments were accompanied by the increased amount of total sulfhydryl groups, surface hydrophobicity and changes to the secondary structure of the proteins measured by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Fermented probiotic beverages, non-enriched (C) and enriched with untreated (Cr) or treated cricket protein with combined treatments were also evaluated for their in vitro protein digestibility. Results showed that the soluble fraction of US-IRE fermented beverage had the highest digestibility (94%) as compared to the whole fermented tested beverages. The peptides profile demonstrated that US-IRE had a low proportion of high molecular weight (MW) peptides (0.7%) and the highest proportion of low MW peptides by over 80% as compared to the other treatments.

Abstract
The gut microbiota plays an important role in maintaining homeostasis in the human body, and the disruption of these communities can lead to compromised host health and the onset of disease. Current research on probiotics is quite promising and, in particular, these microorganisms have demonstrated their potential for use as adjuvants for the treatment of colorectal cancer. This review addresses the possible applications of probiotics, postbiotics, synbiotics, and next-generation probiotics in colorectal cancer research.

Abstract
Background The performance of the microbiota is observed in several digestive tract diseases. Therefore, reaching the biliary microbiota may suggest ways for studies of biomarkers, diagnoses, tests and therapies in hepatobiliopancreatic diseases. Methods Bile samples will be collected in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography patients (case group) and living liver transplantation donors (control group). We will characterize the microbiome based on two types of sequence data: the V3/V4 regions of the 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene and total shotgun DNA. For 16S sequencing data a standard 16S processing pipeline based on the Amplicon Sequence Variant concept and the qiime2 software package will be employed; for shotgun data, for each sample we will assemble the reads and obtain and analyze metagenome-assembled genomes. Results The primary expected results of the study is to characterize the specific composition of the biliary microbiota in situations of disease and health. In addition, it seeks to demonstrate the existence of changes in the case of illness and also possible disease biomarkers, diagnosis, interventions and therapies in hepatobiliopancreatic diseases.
