Abstract
Background The administration of probiotics has been shown to be beneficial in asthma. The administration of Saccharomyces cerevisiae UFMG A-905 prevented asthma development. Traditionally, probiotics are administered using dairy-based matrices, but other vehicles (e.g., fruit juices, biscuits, candies, and breads) can be used. Objectives This study aimed to assess the effect of bread fermented with S. cerevisiae UFMG A-905 in asthma prevention. Methods Three breads were produced: fermented with commercial yeast, fermented with S. cerevisiae UFMG A-905, and fermented with S. cerevisiae UFMG A-905 with the addition of alginate microcapsules containing live S. cerevisiae UFMG A-905. Characterization of the microbial composition of the breads was performed. Male Balb/c mice were sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin. Breads were administered 10 d before the first sensitization and during sensitization and challenge protocol. Yeast fecal count, in vivo airway hyperresponsiveness, and airway and lung inflammation were assessed. Results In UFMG A-905 bread, there was an increase in yeast number and a decrease in total and lactic acid bacteria. Animals that received S. cerevisiae UFMG A-905 fermented bread with microcapsules had a significant increase in yeast recovery from feces. S. cerevisiae UFMG A-905-fermented breads partially reduced airway inflammation, decreasing eosinophils and IL5 and IL13 concentrations. When adding microcapsules, the bread also diminished airway hyperresponsiveness and increased IL17A concentrations. Conclusions S. cerevisiae UFMG A-905 was able to generate long-fermentation breads. Microcapsules were a safe and viable way to inoculate the live yeast into food. The administration of breads fermented with S. cerevisiae UFMG A-905 prevented asthma-like characteristics, being more pronounced when the breads contained microcapsules with live yeast.

Abstract
Transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) has played a huge role in the interventional treatment of organ bleeding and accidental bleeding. Choosing bio-embolization materials with good biocompatibility is an important part of TAE. In this work, we prepared a calcium alginate embolic microsphere using high-voltage electrostatic droplet technology. The microsphere simultaneously encapsulated silver sulfide quantum dots (Ag2S QDs) and barium sulfate (BaSO4), and fixed thrombin on its surface. Thrombin can achieve an embolic effect while stopping bleeding. The embolic microsphere has good near-infrared two-zone (NIR-II) imaging and X-ray imaging effects, and the luminous effect of NIR-II is better than that of X-rays. This breaks the limitations of traditional embolic microspheres that only have X-ray imaging. And the microspheres have good biocompatibility and blood compatibility. Preliminary application results show that the microspheres can achieve a good embolization effect in the ear arteries of New Zealand white rabbits, and can be used as an effective material for arterial embolization and hemostasis. This work realizes the clinical embolization application of NIR-II combined with X-ray multimodal imaging technology in biomedical imaging, achieving complementary advantages and excellent results, more suitable for studying biological changes and clinical applications.

Abstract
Non-spherical hydrogel particles are of fundamental interest and can find use in a variety of applications ranging from pharmaceuticals to biomedical to food. Here, we report a new method that leverages the yield stress property of viscoplastic fluids to synthesize shape-engineered alginate particles. By dripping an aqueous viscoplastic solution composed of sodium alginate and a yield-stress material into an ionic gelation bath, droplets are controllably deformed and crosslinked, producing a wide assortment of shapes. We find that by tuning the yield stress of the solution and the nozzle tip orientation, a range of shapes from symmetric and near-spherical, to asymmetric and anisotropic (e.g., egg-, rice grain-, arc-, ring-, snail shell-, tear-, and tadpole-like) can be produced. We explain our observations using scaling analysis of the forces exerted on the droplet at different stages of particle production. We show that the main factors that determine the degree of droplet deformation during bath entry and the final appearance of the alginate particles are the initial shape of the droplets, the timescales of the viscoplastic fluid relaxation versus the crosslinking reaction, and the physico-chemical properties of the yield-stress material.

Abstract
Alginate is a common agent used for microencapsulation; however, the formed capsule is easily damaged. Therefore, alginate requires blending with other biopolymers to reduce capsule vulnerability. Whey protein is one polymer that can be incorporated with alginate to improve microcapsule structure. In this study, three different encapsulation methods (extrusion, emulsification, and spray drying) were tested for their ability to stabilize microencapsulated Pseudomonas strain VUPF506. Extrusion and emulsification methods enhanced encapsulation efficiency by up to 80% and gave the best release patterns over two months. A greenhouse experiment using potato plants treated with alginate–whey protein microcapsules showed a decrease in Rhizoctonia disease intensity of up to 70%. This is because whey protein is rich in amino acids and can serve as a resistance induction agent for the plant. In this study, the use of CNT in the ALG–WP system increased the rooting and proliferation and reduced physiological complication. The results of this study showed that the technique used in encapsulation could have a significant effect on the efficiency and persistence of probiotic bacteria. Whole genome sequence analysis of strain VUPF506 identified it as Pseudomonas chlororaphis and revealed some genes that control pathogens.
