Abstract
PURPOSE Due to the demographic shift, the number of older people suffering from hearing loss and from cognitive impairment increases. Both are closely related and hard to differentiate as most standard cognitive test batteries are auditory-based and hearing-impaired individuals perform worse also in non-auditory test batteries. Therefore, reference data for hearing-impaired are mandatory. METHODS The computer-based battery ALAcog assesses multiple cognitive domains, such as attention, (delayed) memory, working memory, inhibition, processing speed, mental flexibility and verbal fluency. A data set of 201 bilaterally hearing-impaired subjects aged ≥ 50 (mean 66.6 (SD 9.07)) was analysed. The LMS method, estimated curves for the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th and 90th percentile were calculated, and classified according to age, starting from the age of 50. RESULTS Cognitive function shows a decline in all subtests as people age, except for verbal fluency, which remains almost stable over age. The greatest declines were seen in recall and delayed recall and in mental flexibility. Age and hearing ability did not correlate (p = 0.68). However, as people age, inter-subject variability of cognitive test results increases. This was especially the case for inhibition. Cognitive function was not correlated with hearing ability (each p ≥ 0.13). CONCLUSION The present results make an approach to establish reference data for a comprehensive non-auditory test battery in a large sample of elderly hearing-impaired people which can be used as a simple tool to better contextualise cognitive performance beyond mean and median scores.

Abstract
Objectives: We investigated whether self-reported vision and hearing were associated with cognitive function and loneliness among Mexican adults aged 50 and older. Methods: Mexican Health and Aging Study data. Vision/hearing status was self-reported (excellent-very good, good, fair-poor). Cognition was measured using nine tasks. Loneliness was measured using the UCLA Loneliness Scale. Analyses controlled for demographic and health characteristics. Results: Among 12,353 participants (mean age = 67, 58% female), poor vision, but not hearing, was associated with lower global cognition (β = -0.03, p < .05). Poor vision (OR = 1.57, 95% CI = 1.30-1.91) and hearing (OR = 1.35, 95% CI = 1.14-1.61) were associated with higher odds of being lonely after adjusting for demographics and comorbidities, but not when adjusting for limitations in daily activities and depressive symptoms. Discussion: Poor vision is a potentially modifiable risk factor for lower cognition and loneliness among Mexican adults. These associations are partly due to functional characteristics of older adults with poor vision.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Halbert L. Dunn's concept of wellness is a multi-dimensional aspect encompassing social and mental well-being. Neglecting these dimensions over time can have a negative impact on an individual's mental health. The manual efforts employed in in-person therapy sessions reveal that underlying factors of mental disturbance if triggered, may lead to severe mental health disorders. OBJECTIVE In our research, we introduce a fine-grained approach focused on identifying indicators of wellness dimensions and mark their presence in self-narrated human-writings on Reddit social media platform. DESIGN AND METHOD We present the MultiWD dataset, a curated collection comprising 3281 instances, as a specifically designed and annotated dataset that facilitates the identification of multiple wellness dimensions in Reddit posts. In our study, we introduce the task of identifying wellness dimensions and utilize state-of-the-art classifiers to solve this multi-label classification task. RESULTS Our findings highlights the best and comparative performance of fine-tuned large language models with fine-tuned BERT model. As such, we set BERT as a baseline model to tag wellness dimensions in a user-penned text with F1 score of 76.69. CONCLUSION Our findings underscore the need of trustworthy and domain-specific knowledge infusion to develop more comprehensive and contextually-aware AI models for tagging and extracting wellness dimensions.

Abstract
The aging of the world's population and the health problems accompanying it are becoming increasingly severe. Healthcare policies in developed countries focus on how to prevent and treat diseases associated with aging and how to maintain quality of life. Typical age-related diseases include deafness, cataracts, osteoarthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes mellitus, and dementia. Although the mechanisms by which these diseases develop differ, they are all caused by the accumulation of molecular and cellular damage over time. In addition, age-related diseases can cause a decline in physical and mental functions and the ability to perform activities of daily living, as well as the loss of roles in society and a sense of fulfillment in life. Therefore, there is a need for treatment and measures to accurately grasp and maintain quality of life. This review aims to introduce areas and representative papers expected to be contributed to the special issue of "Aging and Quality of Life".

Abstract
Introduction The occurrence of age-related vision changes is inevitable. However, some of these changes can become pathological. Research indicates that vision and hearing loss is correlated with age-related cognitive decline, and with a higher risk of developing dementia due to Alzheimer's disease. Low vision rehabilitation could possibly be a protective factor against cognitive decline, as it provides the clients with compensatory strategies to overcome their visual deficits. Objectives and hypothesis The aim of this pilot study was to assess correlations between visual and cognitive functions in older adults referred for low vision rehabilitation. We hypothesized that more severe impairment of visual acuity and contrast sensitivity would be correlated with more advanced levels of cognitive impairment. The second objective was to examine which of these correlations would remain significant once established variables that influence cognition are statistically removed (e.g., age, education). Methods Thirty-eight older adults (age range: 66-97 years old) with a visual impairment (acuity <20/70) were recruited before the onset of their low vision rehabilitation. They underwent vision (reading acuity, reading speed, contrast sensitivity), hearing (audiogram, speech-in-noise perception) and cognitive (global cognition, memory, executive functions) testing, and demographic information was obtained. Results and discussion Correlations among global cognition and visual aid use, memory and reading speed, memory and contrast sensitivity, memory, and visual aid use, and between executive functions and contrast sensitivity were significant. Correlations between contrast sensitivity and memory, as well as between global cognition and visual aid use remained significant after controlling for age and education. The present study is relevant to clinicians who are assessing the cognitive status of older adults, such as neuropsychologists, because it highlights the importance of considering low vision when administering neuropsychological tests, especially to persons who have not yet received rehabilitation for their visual impairment.
