Abstract
BACKGROUND Enoxolone, derived from licorice, possesses potent anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. However, its effectiveness in alleviating post-laser reactions has not been extensively studied. AIMS This randomized split-face pilot study aimed to evaluate the effects of enoxolone on skin following laser treatment. PATIENTS/METHODS Ten healthy subjects underwent non-ablative 1550 nm Er:Glass fractional laser treatment and then randomly applied a moisturizer without enoxolone on one side of the face and a dermo-cosmetic formular containing 2% enoxolone mixed with the same moisturizer on the other side. The erythema index (EI), clinician's erythema assessment (CEA), and pain scores were recorded at 30 min, 60 min, and 24 h posttreatment. RESULTS The group treated with enoxolone showed significantly lower EI and CEA compared to the control group at 24 h posttreatment. Additionally, pain scores were notably reduced in the enoxolone-treated group 30 min after treatment. CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that dermo-cosmetic formular containing 2% enoxolone is effective in reducing erythema and pain following laser treatment.

Abstract
Management of the signs of facial aging and other cosmetic skin problems have greatly evolved in the past years. People are also seeking to improve their well-being and global skin appearance, and when they consider using cosmetic procedures, they expect natural and long-lasting aesthetic results. Combined dermocosmetic approaches that address the signs of facial aging at all levels are increasingly being used by dermatologists to meet patient expectations while ensuring their safety. Minimally invasive and reversible procedures that can be performed in only one session are popular approaches for skin restructuring and volumizing as they are flexible, rapid and less burdensome for patients. These interventions can achieve even better outcomes when they are combined with cosmeceuticals as pre- or post-procedural adjuvants to prepare the skin, accelerate recovery and sustain results. The use of topical dermocosmetics is also recommended as part of the daily skin care routine to improve skin quality and help maintain skin barrier function. This review thus outlines the most commonly used combined multilevel anti-aging strategies, which start by addressing the deepest skin layers and then the more superficial signs of skin aging. Examples of multi-active cosmeceuticals and skin delivery enhancing systems are also presented, together with examples of the use of dermocosmetics as supportive care for aesthetic procedures, to provide insights into current applications of dermocosmetic products.

Abstract
The CO2 laser has been widely utilized in dermatology; its expanding clinical applications include the management of neoplastic lesions, benign growths, cosmetic conditions, and reactive disorders. The laser's popularity is mainly due to the high precision and short recovery time this technology provides. However, postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) has been one of the challenging adverse effects of the CO2 laser. Therefore, several modalities have been studied for the prevention of PIH following CO2 laser treatment. This review aims to analyze the incidence of PIH after CO2 laser therapy, identify its risk factors, and assess the efficacy of the examined treatment modalities in preventing PIH. Pubmed and Embase databases were searched for this study, and relative clinical trials were included in the review. Descriptive findings - including age, gender, skin type, types of intervention, and incidence of PIH - were reported. When appropriate, the incidence of PIH was compared across each possible individual factor, such as skin type, gender, and type of intervention. A total of 211 articles were identified, and 14 relevant articles were included in this review. Seventy percent of the subjects were females (n=219), and 30% were males (n=94), with a mean age of 30 years (SD=7.8). The most common skin types were type IV (59%) followed by type III (25%). In total, eight studies investigated the prevention of PIH. The incidence of PIH after CO2 laser significantly varies between studies and differs based on the type of intervention. The studies indicate that the use of Clobetasol propionate 0.05% and fusidic acid cream appeared to effectively reduce PIH, recording an incidence rate of 39% and 53.3%, respectively. The Fitzpatrick-skinphenotype did not appear to influence the risk of PIH. There is a lack of high-powered clinical studies analyzing the incidence of PIH after CO2 laser treatment and the associated risk factors. PIH occurrence may be related to inflammation resulting from thermal damage by the CO2 laser. Consequently, the use of postoperative topical medications with anti-inflammatory properties might reduce its incidence. The use of ultra-potent topical corticosteroids and topical fusidic acid appeared to reduce PIH, possibly reducing postoperative inflammation effectively. Similarly, platelet-containing plasma may be beneficial in reducing CO2 side effects, including PIH. However, more studies are needed to further establish the influence of skin type on PIH and investigate modalities to reduce PIH occurrence after CO2 laser use.

Abstract
The present work aimed to systematically identify the efficacy and safety of fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) laser plus hyaluronic acid (HA) dressing in dealing with facial atrophic acne scars. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) concerning fractional CO2 laser in combination with HA dressing for treating atrophic acne scars were screened in 8 electronic databases (containing PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Internet, Wanfang, Sinomed as well as VIP). Besides, for the purpose of evaluating the risk of bias of the enrolled RCTs, the Cochrane Collaboration tool was adopted. Statistical analysis was completed using Revman5.3 software and Stata 14.0 software. Meanwhile, the quality of evidence was assessed by the GRADE system. Finally, 6 studies involving 623 patients were enrolled. According to the findings in this study, compared with fractional CO2 laser alone, fractional CO2 laser therapy combined with HA dressing reduced the scores of ECCA (échelle d'évaluation clinique des cicatrices d'acné) grading scale (MD=-3.37,95% CI [-5.03, -1.70], P<0.0001), shortened the time of crust formation (MD=-0.42,95% CI [-0.80, -0.04], P=0.03) and the time of crust removal(MD=-1.31,95% CI [-1.67, -0.95], P<0.00001), enhanced patient satisfaction (RR=1.85, 95% CI [1.44, 2.38], P<0.00001). All the reported adverse events including hyperpigmentation, erythema, edema, mild itching, and slight burning pain were controllable. In addition, fractional CO2 laser combined with HA dressing therapy had a lower incidence of hyperpigmentation than fractional CO2 laser alone (RR=0.37, 95% CI [0.23, 0.61], P<0.0001). The level of evidence for outcomes was classified to be low to moderate. According to our findings, fractional CO2 laser combined with HA dressing is efficacious and safe option for facial atrophic acne scars. Nevertheless, more high-quality trials are required for further verification in the future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fractional carbon dioxide (CO2 ) laser resurfacing is used successfully for facial rejuvenation. Post procedure skincare is a variable that influences downtime caused by pain/tenderness, erythema, crusting, and bruising. AIMS The primary objective of this pilot study was to demonstrate the benefits of human platelet extract (HPE) (plated)™ CALM Serum, a new topical cosmetic product, following fractionated CO2 ablative laser resurfacing treatment to the entire face versus standard of care. METHODS In a single-center, randomized, evaluator-blinded pilot study, a total of 18 subjects were randomized into two groups, CO2 facial resurfacing followed by post-procedural standard of care (Stratacel silicone gel) or CO2 facial resurfacing with the addition of HPE renewosomes in the CALM Serum. RESULTS CALM Serum demonstrated statistically significant less crusting at Day 10 compared to the control group (p = 0.0193) with less downtime in the first 14 days (p = 0.03). Subjects treated with CALM Serum had statistically significant brighter appearing skin at 14 days (p = 0.007) and more youthful looking skin on Days 14 and 30 (p = 0.003 and 0.04, respectively). CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates that Renewosome™ technology provides statistically significant post-laser clinical recovery over silicone gel for reducing crusting, and downtime. Subjects reported less diary days of symptoms of pain/tenderness, redness, crusting/flaking, bruising, and itching in the first 14 days compared to the control group. CALM also demonstrated statistically significant improvements in brighter and more youthful appearing skin. CALM is safe and well tolerated.

Abstract
A thorough knowledge of non-surgical procedures (laser, peelings, injections, threads) and surgical procedures (combined surgeries and skin grafts), including contraindications and potential risks and side effects, (e.g. infection, hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, and scarring) is essential to be able to reduce their incidence and ensure the patient receives the most benefit from the procedure. Individuals with darker skin and of high Fitzpatrick phototype are at higher risk of dyschromias, notably melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which may be treated using aesthetic procedures but may also arise as a complication of some procedures. A group of experts in cosmetic surgery and dermatology reviewed the published literature and discussed recommendations for optimizing outcomes with practical advice on supportive skincare before, during and after non-surgical or surgical procedures. A broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high sun protection factor against UVB and high protection against UVA, especially long UVA, is essential for all treatment modalities for the prevention and potential improvement of pigmentation disorders. Supportive skin care management to prepare, cleanse and protect the skin and post-procedure skin care with healing and anti-inflammatory ingredients are recommended to speed up regeneration and wound healing whilst minimizing scarring and downtime. Additionally, adjunctive skin care to procedures with antioxidant, anti-ageing and lightening properties may enhance skin benefits.

Abstract
Wounds are among the most common skin conditions, displaying a large etiological diversity and being characterized by different degrees of severity. Wound healing is a complex process that involves multiple steps such as inflammation, proliferation and maturation and ends with scar formation. Since ancient times, a widely used option for treating skin wounds are plant- based treatments which currently have become the subject of modern pharmaceutical formulations. Triterpenes with tetracyclic and pentacyclic structure are extensively studied for their implication in wound healing as well as to determine their molecular mechanisms of action. The current review aims to summarize the main results of in vitro, in vivo and clinical studies conducted on lupane, ursane, oleanane, dammarane, lanostane and cycloartane type triterpenes as potential wound healing treatments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Laser therapies have brought dawn to refractory skin diseases, but also were accompanied by postlaser inflammation and skin barrier dysfunction. To recover skin function quickly, the research and development of active ingredients including β-glucan for postlaser repair have attracted much attention. AIMS To evaluate the efficacy and tolerance of skin care regimens containing β-glucan (Dermdoc®;Songyang Biotech) in repairing postlaser inflammation and skin barrier dysfunction after fractional laser therapy. METHODS A total of 20 patients with facial atrophic acne scars who accepted fractional laser therapy were recruited: 10 patients treated with ablative fractional CO2 laser and 10 patients treated with 1565nm nonablative fractional laser. Using the method of split-face vehicle-control study, the left half of the face was served as the treatment side and accepted skin care regimens, and the right half was control side accepted vehicle. Noninvasive bioinstrumentation of skin hydration index, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and hemoglobin index (E value) was detected in the study. Standard digital photographs were taken at each visit. The skin tolerance and adverse effect were also evaluated by subject questionnaire. RESULTS Compared with the control side, the Hemoglobin index (E value) of the treatment side was improved more significantly on the 7th day (P < .05). The skin hydration index of the treatment side was better than that of the control side on the 7th and 14th day (P < .05). After treatment, the TEWL of the treatment side on the 7th day was statistically significantly lower than that of the control side (P < .05). In the subject self-assessment questionnaires, 63.2% thought the repair effect of β-glucan regimens was better than that of vehicle. The skin care regimens were well tolerated without obvious side reactions. CONCLUSION The skin care regimens containing β-glucan may play a positive role in accelerating the recovery of skin inflammation and barrier function after fractional laser therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The potential efficacy of vascular component-targeted laser has been evaluated for the treatment of melasma, which commonly found with the co-existence of telangiectasia. AIMS To evaluate the treatment efficacy and safety of 585-nm QSNYL and 4% HQ cream combination vs 4% HQ cream alone for telangiectatic melasma in the skin phototypes III-V. PATIENTS/METHODS Twenty-one Thai female patients with telangiectatic melasma and Fitzpatrick skin phototypes (FPTs) III-V were randomly treated with the 585-nm QSNYL on one side of the face for five sessions at 2-week intervals. All patients were assigned to apply HQ cream daily at night on both sides of the face for 10 weeks and a broad-spectrum sunscreen regularly throughout the study. The treatment efficacy and safety were evaluated using the Modified Melasma Area and Severity Index (mMASI), biometric evaluation, patient assessment, and adverse effects. RESULTS The combination-treated side yielded more significant improvement of mMASI than the topical-treated side at weeks 2, 4, and 8, respectively. However, 19% of the patients developed postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) on the laser-treated side, especially in FPTs IV-V and rebound hyperpigmentation. There was a significant improvement of hemoglobin and melanin index, but without statistical difference between the two treatment groups. CONCLUSIONS The combination of 585-nm QSNYL and HQ treatment yields treatment efficacy and skin rejuvenation effects for telangiectatic melasma. Nonetheless, a high incidence of PIH and rebound hyperpigmentation is adversely developed in dark FPT. Thus, this laser treatment should be cautiously applied in those with dark FPTs IV-V to avoid laser-induced pigment alteration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Inflammation and postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) are two adverse side effects of ablative fractional CO2 laser (ablative Fr CO2 ) treatment for both rejuvenation and acne scars. AIMS To evaluate the efficacy of fusidic acid cream versus erythromycin ointment as postoperative therapy in patients who underwent ablative Fr CO2 treatment for atrophic acne scars. METHODS Sixty Chinese patients who fulfilled the study criteria were recruited and randomly assigned to an experimental group treated with fusidic acid cream or a control group treated with erythromycin ointment. Postoperative treatment lasted for 7 days in each group. Each patient had two follow-up visits at 8 and 12 weeks. In total, three patients dropped out of the study, one in the experimental group at week 8 and two in the control group at weeks 8 and 12. Baseline and postoperative inflammation and PIH were assessed by facial examination, photographs, and questionnaires. Besides, PIH was evaluated by the Hyperpigmentation Activity and Severity Index (HASI) and a five-point grading system. RESULTS Moderate-to-severe PIH was observed in both groups. However, the mean HASI score and severity of PIH in the experimental group were lower than those of the control group at weeks 8 and 12 (P < 0.05). In the control group, one patient developed postoperative abscesses and one had papules, whereas no inflammation was observed in the experimental group participants. CONCLUSION Fusidic acid cream shows promise as a common treatment after ablative Fr CO2 therapy to reduce postoperative inflammation and PIH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Herbal extracts with fewer adverse effects can be an alternative to these drugs because they can target various molecular pathways of acne pathogenesis. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the clinical efficacy of herbal extracts (mangosteen, Lithospermum officinale, Tribulus terrestris L., Houttuynia cordata Thunb) for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris. METHODS Sixty patients were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive blinded treatment with herbal extracts or vehicle for 8 weeks. Inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesion counts, Investigator's Global Assessment, patient's satisfaction and safety profiles were assessed. We also performed skin biopsy at baseline and week 8 to confirm immunological changes with immunohistochemistry staining. RESULTS By the end of the study period, both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesion counts were significantly decreased in herbal extracts group (p< .05). In immunohistochemistry staining, expressions of IL-1α, IL-8, and keratin 16 were significantly decreased in herbal extracts group compared to vehicle group from baseline to week 8. There was no serious adverse events in both groups. CONCLUSIONS This herbal extracts can be a new therapeutic option for patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris who are reluctant to use drugs.
