Abstract
BACKGROUND Distinguishing between different types of pleural effusions (PEs) is crucial for clinical diagnosis and treatment. This study evaluates the diagnostic value of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) levels in PE and serum, as well as the PE/serum ratios of these markers, in classifying PE. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 99 patients with PE, categorizing them into malignant pleural effusion (MPE), tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE), and benign PE groups. Levels of CEA and IFN-γ in PE and serum were quantified and their ratios were calculated. Diagnostic performance was assessed using receiver operating characteristic analysis, focusing on the area under the curve (AUC) to determine the efficacy of these biomarkers. RESULTS Significantly elevated levels of CEA in PE and serum were observed in the MPE group compared to the benign and TPE groups, with the PE/serum CEA ratio offering substantial diagnostic value (AUCs: PE = 0.843, serum = 0.744). Conversely, IFN-γ levels in PE and serum were markedly higher in the TPE group, demonstrating notable diagnostic accuracy (AUCs: PE = 0.970, serum = 0.917). CONCLUSION Both CEA and IFN-γ demonstrate high clinical utility in differentiating between MPE and TPE. The PE/serum ratio of these biomarkers enhances diagnostic accuracy, potentially facilitating earlier and more accurate therapeutic interventions.

Abstract
Ovarian cancer is an umbrella term covering a number of distinct subtypes. Endometrioid and clear-cell ovarian carcinoma are endometriosis-associated ovarian cancers (EAOCs) frequently arising from ectopic endometrium in the ovary. The mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) is a crucial regulator of cellular homeostasis and is dysregulated in both endometriosis and endometriosis-associated ovarian cancer, potentially favouring carcinogenesis across a spectrum from benign disease with cancer-like characteristics, through an atypical phase, to frank malignancy. In this review, we focus on mTOR dysregulation in endometriosis and EAOCs, investigating cancer driver gene mutations and their potential interaction with the mTOR pathway. Additionally, we explore the complex pathogenesis of transformation, considering environmental, hormonal, and epigenetic factors. We then discuss postmenopausal endometriosis pathogenesis and propensity for malignant transformation. Finally, we summarize the current advancements in mTOR-targeted therapeutics for endometriosis and EAOCs.

Abstract
Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is one of the deadliest gynecological cancers worldwide, mainly because of its initially asymptomatic nature and consequently late diagnosis. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) are non-coding transcripts of more than 200 nucleotides, whose deregulation is involved in pathologies such as EOC, and are therefore envisaged as future biomarkers. We present a meta-analysis of available gene expression profiling (microarray and RNA sequencing) studies from EOC patients to identify lncRNA genes with diagnostic and prognostic value. In this meta-analysis, we include 46 independent cohorts, along with available expression profiling data from EOC cell lines. Differential expression analyses were conducted to identify those lncRNAs that are deregulated in (i) EOC versus healthy ovary tissue, (ii) unfavorable versus more favorable prognosis, (iii) metastatic versus primary tumors, (iv) chemoresistant versus chemosensitive EOC, and (v) correlation to specific histological subtypes of EOC. From the results of this meta-analysis, we established a panel of lncRNAs that are highly correlated with EOC. The panel includes several lncRNAs that are already known and even functionally characterized in EOC, but also lncRNAs that have not been previously correlated with this cancer, and which are discussed in relation to their putative role in EOC and their potential use as clinically relevant tools.

Abstract
Ovarian cancer (OC) is one of the deadliest cancers worldwide; late diagnosis and drug resistance are two major factors often responsible for high morbidity and treatment failure. Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a dynamic process that has been closely linked with cancer. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been also associated with several cancer-related mechanisms, including EMT. We conducted a literature search in the PubMed database in order to sum up and discuss the role of lncRNAs in regulating OC-related EMT and their underlying mechanisms. Seventy (70) original research articles were identified, as of 23 April 2023. Our review concluded that the dysregulation of lncRNAs is highly associated with EMT-mediated OC progression. A comprehensive understanding of lncRNAs' mechanisms in OC will help in identifying novel and sensitive biomarkers and therapeutic targets for this malignancy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Ephrin receptor A2 (EphA2) was reported to be related to the tumorigenesis of salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC), which is a rare malignancy accounting for less than 1% of all oral and maxillofacial tumors. This research aimed to assess the molecular mechanisms of EphA2 in SACC. STUDY DESIGN The expression of long non-coding RNA human leukocyte antigen complex group 11 (HCG11), microRNA-1297 (miR-1297), and EphA2 in SACC cell lines compared with normal human salivary gland (HSG) cell line was measured by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction. EphA2 protein level was detected by western blot. 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU), colony formation, Transwell, and wounding healing experiments were applied to evaluate SACC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. The relationship among HCG11, miR-1297, and EphA2 was confirmed by luciferase reporter, RNA pulldown, and RNA immunoprecipitation experiments. RESULTS HCG11 and EphA2 were downregulated while miR-1297 was upregulated in SACC cells. EphA2 overexpression suppressed SACC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. HCG11 bound to miR-1297 to reduce the inhibition of miR-1297 on EphA2 expression. EphA2 knockdown reversed the suppression of HCG11 overexpression on SACC cell phenotypes. CONCLUSION This study identified the HCG11/miR-1297/EphA2 regulatory axis in SACC, which might provide novel therapeutic targets for SACC.
