Abstract
BACKGROUND Addressing Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs) is essential for patient-centred care, shared decision making and improved health outcomes. Value-based health care systems in New South Wales (NSW) have a growing focus on collecting and using PROs that matter most to patients to improve their healthcare outcomes. Developing oral health patient reported outcomes measures (OH-PROM) is a first step towards value-based oral health care. This paper describes the development process of an adult and child OH-PROM tool that can be piloted for NSW public dental patients. METHODS An expert panel was assembled to undertake a systematic process of developing OH-PROMs for NSW Health. Key methodological considerations included: (1) forming an expert panel to specify the target population and context of implementation, (2) rapid literature review and environmental scan to identify existing validated OH-PROM tools for adults and children. (3) consensus gathering with the expert panel (4) consumer feedback, and (5) finalisation of the tool for electronic oral health record (eOHR) integration to establish a set of questions, that were relevant, context-appropriate, and important to oral healthcare outcomes for patients using public dental services. RESULTS The panel considered a total of 59 questions from two child (15), and four adult (44) Oral Health Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) questionnaires used to collect OH-PROMs. These questions were mapped to the four key dimensions of OHRQoL for OH-PROMs: Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact. The consensus resulted in seven questions that aligned with these four dimensions to form two new NSW OH-PROM tools: one for adults and one for children. The tools were tested with consumers for understandability and usefulness before being incorporated into the electronic oral health record system, in readiness for future pilot testing. CONCLUSION The process for developing new OH-PROMs for NSW public dental services took a pragmatic approach that combined literature appraisal, expert consensus, and consumer consultation. Future work will assess the implementation of the OH-PROM tool and test its validity for broader use as an outcome measure for value-based oral healthcare.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We evaluated anxiety, pain, and oral-health-related quality of life in individuals treated with conventional fixed appliances (Group A) and clear aligners (Group B) for moderate malocclusion during the initial phase of orthodontic treatment. METHODS Sixty individuals, separated into Group A (n = 30) and Group B (n = 30), were included in the study. They completed the Anxiety Levels, Oral Health Impact Profile-14, and Oral Health Related Quality of Life - United Kingdom/Surveys after the application of attachments on days 0 (T1), 10 (T10), and 20 (T20). Their pain levels were evaluated with the Visual Analogue Scale on days 0, 2, and 6 in the 2nd and 6th hours and on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th, and 21st days. RESULTS Per the VAS questionnaire, pain levels in the 2nd hour, 6th hour, 1st day, and 3rd day were significantly lower in Group B than in Group A. In the OHIP-14 survey results, the comparison between Group A and Group B showed a significant difference only on the 1st day. The STAI and OHRQoL-UK survey results did not differ significantly between the groups. CONCLUSIONS We found no significant difference between the two groups in terms of anxiety levels, and pain among individuals in Group A was higher than in Group B only at the beginning of the treatment. No significant differences were observed in terms of individuals' quality of life. TRIAL REGISTRATION NCT06133296 (retrospectively registered)- Registration Date:15/11/2023.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) is pivotal in patient care, reflecting oral health through dental patient-reported outcomes (dPROs). This systematic review aims to outline the 4-dimensional (4-D) impact of OHRQoL within patient populations routinely treated by dental hygiene and/or dental therapy providers, as there is limited literature present for these oral health care professionals. METHODS The study extracted and analyzed characteristics and multidimensional impact of OHRQoL, using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) as the primary dental patient-reported outcome measure (dPROM). The search strategy spanned 7 databases: Medline via the Ovid interface (Ovid MEDLINE(R) ALL), Embase via Ovid, Cinahl, APA PsycINFO via Ovid, Dentistry and Oral Sciences Search, Scopus, and Web of Science (Core Collection). It commenced September 2, 2022, with a refinement search on July 5, 2023. English language criteria yielded 645 articles postduplication removal. A screening procedure involving 3 reviewers encompassed title, abstract, and full-text review. RESULTS After application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 5 articles were subjected to data extraction, capturing domain-specific information including baseline and follow-up OHRQoL data. An additional set of 13 articles containing summarized OHRQoL data underwent separate analysis. The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal tools were utilized for risk bias assessment of the included articles. The 4-D impact scores reported for baseline OHRQoL data, ranged from 3.10 to 4.20 for Oral Function, 0.84-2.70 for Orofacial Pain, 1.70-4.50 for Orofacial Appearance, and 0.44-2.50 for Psychosocial Impact. In follow-up OHRQoL data, the range for Oral Function was 1.52-3.60, Orofacial Pain 0.60-2.10, Orofacial Appearance 0.91-2.25, and Psychosocial Impact 0.10-0.60. CONCLUSIONS This review highlights a critical call for standardization in OHRQoL data collection for dental hygiene and dental therapy patient populations as only 26% of the predetermined distinct populations were found to have studies completed with 4-D impact of OHRQoL. Moreover, the presence of limited research in describing the multi-dimensional impact in patients routinely treated by these providers shows the urgency of substantive research in this area.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Different dental patient-reported outcome measures (dPROMs) exist for children and adults, leading to an incompatibility in outcome assessment in these 2 age groups. However, the dental patient-reported outcomes (dPROs) Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact are the same in the 2 groups, providing an opportunity for compatible dPRO assessment if dPROMs were identical. Therefore, we adapted the 5-item Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-5), a recommended dPROM for adults, to school-aged children to allow a standardized dPRO assessment in individuals aged 7 years and above. AIM It was the aim of this study to develop a 5-item OHIP for school-aged children (OHIP-5School) and to investigate the instrument's score reliability and validity. METHODS German-speaking children (N = 95, mean age: 8.6 years +/- 1.3 years, 55% girls) from the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria and a private dental practice in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany participated. The original OHIP-5 was modified and adapted for school going children aged 7-13 years and this modified version was termed OHIP-5School. It's score reliability was studied by determining scores' internal consistency and temporal stability by calculating Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficients, respectively. Construct validity was assessed comparing OHIP-5School scores with OHIP-5 as well as Child Perceptions Questionnaire (CPQ-G8-10) scores. RESULTS Score reliability for the OHIP-5School was "good" (Cronbach's alpha: 0.81) or "excellent" (Intraclass correlation coefficient: 0.92). High correlations between OHIP-5School, OHIP-5, and CPQ-G8-10 scores were observed and hypotheses about a pattern of these correlations were confirmed, providing evidence for score validity. CONCLUSION The OHIP-5School and the original OHIP-5 are short and psychometrically sound instruments to measure the oral health related quality of life in school-aged children, providing an opportunity for a standardized oral health impact assessment with the same metric in school-aged children, adolescents, and adults.

Abstract
Psychological aspects of rehabilitation nutrition affect physical, cognitive, and social rehabilitation nutrition. When depression is recognized, not only pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy, but also non-pharmacological therapies such as exercise, nutrition, psychosocial, and other interventions can be expected to improve depression. Therefore, accurate diagnosis and intervention without overlooking depression is important. Psychological aspects of preventive rehabilitation nutrition is also important because depression can be partially prevented by appropriate exercise and nutritional management. Even in the absence of psychological negatives, increasing more psychological positives from a positive psychology perspective can be useful for both patients and healthcare professionals. Positive rehabilitation nutrition interventions can increase more psychological positives, such as well-being, through cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness on their own, as well as through interventions on environmental factors. Consequently, physical, cognitive, and social positives are also expected to be enhanced.

Abstract
Quality of life is a parameter that not only evaluates clinical parameters, but also refers to the perception of the individual in his or her sociocultural context. It also refers to psychosocial aspects that have a very important impact on people's lives. Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) must also be considered when assessing oral health in any population for which an oral health program is to be developed. On this premise, and taking into account the precarious situation of refugee children housed in the Temporary Center for Migrants (CETI) in Melilla (Spain), a study was conducted to assess the oral health and OHRQoL of the children housed in the aforementioned facility. For this purpose, the 120 children in care at the time of the study underwent a basic epidemiological examination according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), and their OHRQoL was assessed using the specific OHIP-14 questionnaire. The results show a state of oral health with a high caries prevalence (95%), high DMFT, and dft indices for the studied population. The oral health-related quality of life perceived by these children shows that pain and psychological discomfort are the areas rated worst by them. Thus, it is concluded that it is important to implement specific oral health programs for this population, based on caries prevention and pain management, which must also take into account the psychological and sociocultural aspects that have accompanied their lives.

Abstract
Edentulous patients' quality of life can be greatly diminished by the use of a badly fitting removable prosthesis, as many aspects of social life become notably impaired. The object of this study was to evaluate if treating these patients with a two implants mandibular overdenture could improve their quality of life as measured with the Italian version of the OHIP-14 (Oral Health Impact Profile). Edentulous patients, in good clinical condition, were selected. Two implants were placed following the recommended guidelines and three months after new mandibular dentures were manufactured, implants were uncovered and connected to the prosthesis using LOCATOR abutments. OHIP-14 was measured at baseline, one month after delivery and one year after delivery. An improvement was observed even after one month (with a mean reduction of 17 points in OHIP) and that improvement appeared to be stable at the one-year follow-up. Mandibular overdentures can improve a patient's quality of life when compared to a tissue-supported removable complete denture, as long as the patient is subjected to an appropriate follow-up as the retentive rings of the attachment can deteriorate even after two years and lose a great deal of retentive capabilities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bracket bonding failure is one of the relevant problems in fixed orthodontics therapy, which affects the total treatment and quality of treatment results. The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the frequency of bracket bond failure and find out risk factors. METHODS A total of 101 patients with an age range of 11-56 years were included in this retrospective study and treated for a mean period of 30.2 months. Inclusion criteria were: males and females with permanent dentition and completed orthodontic treatment in both fully bonded dental arches. Risk factors were calculated using binary logistic regression analysis. RESULTS The overall bracket failure rate was 14.65%. The bracket failure rate was significantly higher in the younger patients' group (p = 0.003). In most cases, patients experienced bracket failures in the first month of the treatment. Most of the bracket bond failures occurred on the left lower first molar (29.1%) and were twice as common in the lower dental arch (66.98%). Patients with increased overbite had an increased likelihood of bracket loss (p = 0.042). Class II malocclusion increased the relative risk of bracket failure, while Class III decreased the rate of bracket failure, but the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.093). CONCLUSIONS The bracket bond failure rate was higher in younger patients than in older patients. Brackets placed on mandibular molars and premolars had the highest failure rate. Class II was associated with an increased bracket failure rate. Increased overbite statistically significantly increases bracket failure rate.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oral health is an indispensable component of overall health, and oral health status significantly influences people's physical, mental, and social well-being. Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), an important and widely used dental patient-reported outcome (dPRO), is attracting more and more researchers' attention and interest. This study aimed to analyze and map the existing scientific literature regarding OHRQoL through a bibliometric approach, including a summary of the characteristics of OHRQoL-related publications, the identification of prolific entities, high-frequency keywords analysis, and research trend analysis via periodic high-impact keywords. METHODS A literature search was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection to collect OHRQoL-related original research and review articles. After examination and deduplication, the following bibliometric information was extracted from each article: title, abstract, keywords, authors, affiliations, geographic origin (countries/regions), year of publication, journal name, and references. Various scientometric mapping tools including Microsoft Office spreadsheet, VOSviewer, Biblioshiny R-package software, and Scimago Graphica were used to analyze basic bibliometric parameters, leading producers, high-impact keywords, and research trends. RESULTS A total of 3324 OHRQoL-related articles (3119 original research articles and 205 review papers) were collected, which received 65,704 citations. A total of 9950 authors from 2429 organizations contributed to this body of research. Prolific authors from Europe, USA, Brazil, New Zealand, China, and Canada were identified, and they also centered collaboration clusters in the co-author network. Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology was the most prolific journal. Twenty-one keywords with more than 200 occurrences, and 23 keywords with more than 150 occurrences, were identified for publications of 1994-2021 and 2012-2021, respectively. Keyword analysis revealed hot topics such as instrument development and validation, studies targeting children and adolescents, as well as clinical studies in operative dentistry, implantology, orthodontics, and community dentistry. Oral Health Impact Profile is the most commonly used instrument in OHRQoL-related research. CONCLUSIONS OHRQoL is an impactful topic in dental health care as it is not only useful in dental research and patient-centered clinical outcome measures but also provides valuable guidance in dental public health administration and policy making. OHRQoL-related research presents a dynamic landscape and is expected to continue presenting high productivity and broad application in the future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Value-based oral healthcare (VBOHC) has two fundamental components, the assessment of patients' dental outcomes and the measurement of the costs to achieve those outcomes. The aim of this article is to describe challenges and opportunities of implementing dental patient-reported outcomes (dPROs) in clinical care at the University Clinic of Dentistry, Medical University of Vienna, in Austria, to determine lessons learned and describe next steps forward to VBOHC implementation. METHODS A case study determining lessons learned based on an implementation process to incorporate a dental patient-reported outcome measure (dPROM) in routine clinical care was conducted. The German version of the five items Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-5), a dPROM was selected and integrated into the general anamnesis including dental and medical history for patients aged ≥16 years. The anamnesis is paper based and is to be completed by each new patient during the registration process. Thereafter, it is uploaded to the patients' dental record via scan by the main central admission. However, it is then the treating dentist's task to transfer the data into the digital system. Data accuracy between digital and paper forms was investigated, and lessons learned regarding the first steps of implementing VBOHC were summarized based on the implementation process findings. RESULTS To date, 8,147 patients were approached to fill in OHIP-5. However, only 266 patients´ OHIP- 5 files were transferred into the digital system by the dentist. To explore the accuracy between the manual transfer of data from paper forms to digital format, the data of 89 randomly selected patients was compared. Of this sample, 74 (83.1%) patient's data sets were found to be identical. Lessons learned included the importance of institutional dedication, stakeholders' engagement, dPROMs integration in follow up visits, the significance of digital solutions, and the continuous monitoring and evaluation. CONCLUSION Integrating dPROMs in clinical settings is achievable and is the first important step to move forward with VBOHC implementation.

Abstract
The Scientific Investigation Committee of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry offers this review of the 2021 dental literature in restorative dentistry to inform busy dentists regarding noteworthy scientific and clinical progress over the past year. Each member of the committee brings discipline-specific expertise to coverage of this broad topical area. Specific subject areas addressed, in order of the appearance in this report, include COVID-19 and the dental profession (new); prosthodontics; periodontics, alveolar bone, and peri-implant tissues; implant dentistry; dental materials and therapeutics; occlusion and temporomandibular disorders; sleep-related breathing disorders; oral medicine and oral and maxillofacial surgery; and dental caries and cariology. The authors focused their efforts on reporting information likely to influence daily dental treatment decisions with an emphasis on future trends in dentistry. With the tremendous volume of dentistry and related literature being published daily, this review cannot possibly be comprehensive. Rather, its purpose is to update interested readers and provide important resource material for those interested in pursuing greater details on their own. It remains our intent to assist colleagues in negotiating the extensive volume of important information being published annually. It is our hope that readers find this work useful in successfully managing the patients and dental problems they encounter.

Abstract
Background: In Austria, almost every second child has caries. The consequences of untreated carious lesions are infections, pain, and limitations in everyday life. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) treatment on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of uncooperative children aged 0−5 years using the German version of the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS-G). Methods: This prospective study was conducted at the Department of Paediatric Dentistry at the Medical University of Vienna. Preschool children with behavioral problems and carious lesions that required SDF application were included. The ECOHIS-G questionnaire was given to the caregiver before (T0) and three months (T1) after treatment. Using descriptive analysis and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test, changes in the ECOHIS scores were evaluated and tested for significance. Results: A total of 30 children aged 0−5 years were enrolled and received SDF treatment. At baseline, the total ECOHIS score was 21.4 (±8.5). Three months after therapy, a significant improvement was achieved (16.3 [±5.6], p < 0.05). Significantly better scores were observed in six subdomains, especially in “child function” (3.9 [±2.0]) and “child symptoms” (2.0 [±1.3]) (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Treatment of carious lesions with SDF in the primary dentition resulted in an improvement in the OHRqoL of children with behavioral problems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND OHIP's original seven-domain structure does not fit empirical data, but a psychometrically sound and clinically more plausible structure with the four OHRQoL dimensions Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact has emerged. Consequently, use and scoring of available OHIP versions need to be revisited. AIM We assessed how well the overall construct OHRQoL and its four dimensions were measured with several OHIP versions (20, 19, 14, and 5 items) to derive recommendations which instruments should be used and how to score them. METHODS Data came from the "Dimensions of OHRQoL Project" and used the project's learning sample (5,173 prosthodontic patients and general population subjects with 49-item OHIP data). We computed correlations among OHIP versions' summary scores. Correlations between OHRQoL dimensions, on one hand, and OHIP versions' domain scores or OHIP-5's items, on the other hand, were also computed. OHIP use and scoring recommendations were derived for psychometrically solid but also practical OHRQoL assessment. RESULTS Summary scores of 5-, 14-, 19- and 49-item versions correlated highly (r = 0.91-0.98), suggesting similar OHRQoL construct measurement across versions. The OHRQoL dimensions Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact were best measured by the OHIP domain scores for Physical Disability, Physical Pain, Psychological Discomfort, and Handicap, respectively. CONCLUSION Recommendations were derived which OHIP should be preferably used and how OHIP versions should be scored to capture the overall construct and the dimensions of OHRQoL. Psychometrically solid and practical OHRQoL assessment in all settings across all oral health conditions can be achieved with the 5-item OHIP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recently, "Recommendations for use and scoring of Oral Health Impact Profile versions" (here abbreviated as Recommendations Project) were proposed by an international group of oral health researchers to standardize assessment of perceived oral health. They recommended a four-dimensional measurement approach consisting of Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact as the set of dental patient-reported outcomes to be measured with the 5-item Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-5). AIM This study aimed to validate the "Recommendations for use and scoring of Oral Health Impact Profile versions" by replicating the findings they are based on. METHODS OHIP data came from the "Dimensions of OHRQoL Project." Its Validation Sample (5,022 prosthodontic patients and general population subjects) as well as its Additional Sample (N = 583 prosthodontic patients and general population subjects) were used. Validation of the Recommendations Project's findings was performed in two steps. First, correlations among OHIP versions presented in the Recommendations Project were replicated in the Validation Sample. Second, participants of the Additional Sample were subjected to a hypothetical treatment program that assigned two treatments to them according to their level of perceived oral health impact using OHIP versions. The performance of abbreviated OHIP versions was evaluated. RESULTS The high correlations among summary scores of 5-, 14-, 19-, and 49-item OHIP versions (r = 0.91-0.98), found in the Recommendations Project, were replicated. All short OHIP versions performed similarly when classifying participants for a hypothetical tailored treatment program. CONCLUSIONS Findings reported in "Recommendations for use and scoring of Oral Health Impact Profile versions" were validated, thus supporting the feasibility of a standardized assessment of perceived oral health in all settings across all oral diseases. Psychometrically solid and practical assessment can be performed with OHIP-5.

Abstract
AIM This study envisages understanding about the Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) among groups of foundling and delinquent children and compares them with mainstream children in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. METHOD This is a cross-sectional, observational study of a group of foundling and delinquent children aged 11 to 14 years, in care houses in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and mainstream school children. Variables measured for each group were demographic data (age, gender), subjective oral health condition, and OHRQoL. An interview-based questionnaire was used for collecting the relevant data. The questionnaire was divided into four parts, oral symptoms, functional limitations, emotional well-being, and social well-being, with each response scored as per the following codes: (0) never, (1) once or twice, (2) sometimes, (3) often, and (4) every day. The top possible score for the total scale was 144, and the lowest was 0. A comparison group of mainstream school children was recruited from public schools. Data were analysed using SPSS version 25.0 statistical software, and one-way ANOVA was used for the analysis of data when three levels or more were categorical, and the response was numerical. A chi-square test was used to assess the correlation between any two categorical variables. RESULTS Out of the total 99 children, 33 were delinquents, 33 were foundling, and 33 were mainstream children included as a comparative group in the study. It was noted that the delinquents compared to the other children had significantly higher scores in accordance with the data collected, with a mean overall score of 30.61 compared to the score for foundling, which was 19.48, and mainstream children had a meager score of 9.18. Individual factorssuch as the oral symptoms, functional limitations, and emotional and social well-being were scored separately, with delinquents having the highest scores and mainstream children the least. CONCLUSIONS Health, including oral health, is a right everyone is equally subjected to, and while the concept of OHRQoL is relatively new, delinquents and foundling are definitely subjected to poorer standards in terms of their oral hygiene, on-time treatment, and diagnosis, which further deteriorates their quality of life.

Abstract
Despite growing knowledge of the adverse effects of cigarette smoking on general health, smoking is one of the most widely prevalent addictions around the world. Globally, about 1.1 billion smokers and over 8 million people die each year because of cigarette smoking. Smoking acts as a source for a variety of oral and systemic diseases. Various periodontal issues such as increased pocket depth, loss of alveolar bone, tooth mobility, oral lesions, ulcerations, halitosis, and stained teeth are more common among smokers. This systematic review was conducted according to the guidelines from PRISMA, and research articles were retrieved from the Web database sources on 31 May 2021. The quality of research articles was ensured by the type of evidence from combined schema incorporating as schema-13 evidence type description, Cochrane health promotion and public health field (CHPPHF), and the health gains notation framework-14 screening question for quality assessment of qualitative and quantitative studies. Smokers have been found to have bleeding on probing, periodontal pockets, and clinical attachment loss compared to nonsmokers. Oral and respiratory cancers are among the most lethal known diseases caused by cigarette smoking and other commonly occurring sequelae such as stained teeth, periodontal diseases, etc.

Abstract
BACKGROUND How to approach the assessment of patient-perceived oral health is of fundamental importance for the evaluation of clinical and public health interventions because the patient's assessment should be used as an adjunct to objective dental findings in order to decide which interventions work. AIM This review article aims to provide an overview of the principles, current status, and future outlook for how a patient's oral health perception can and should be assessed. REVIEW FINDINGS The hierarchical position of dental patient-reported outcomes, oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), and dental patient-reported outcome measures within the hierarchical concepts of quality of life and its component, health-related quality of life, is presented. The Mapping Oral Disease Impact with a Common Metric project is outlined as an international effort to describe current approaches to standardize the measurement of oral impact using the four OHRQoL dimensions of oral function, orofacial pain, orofacial appearance, and psychosocial impact. CONCLUSION Ultimately, these four dimensions of OHRQoL provide a practical and psychometrically solid way to collect and analyze OHRQoL data for all oral diseases in all settings, and eventually for all treatments through the use of a standardized, universal measurement tool. This universal impact metric capturing the patient's oral health perspective is the key to moving evidence-based dentistry and value-based oral health care forward.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact are the four oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) dimensions (4D) or areas in which oral disorders impact pediatric patients. Using their dentists' assessment, the study aimed to evaluate whether pediatric dental patients' oral health concerns fit into the 4D of the Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) construct. METHODS Dentists who treat children from 32 countries and all WHO regions were selected from a web-based survey of 1580 international dentists. Dentists were asked if their pediatric patients with current or future oral health concerns fit into the 4D of the Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) construct. Proportions of all pediatric patients' oral health problems and prevention needs were computed. FINDINGS Data from 101 dentists treating children only and 523 dentists treating children and adults were included. For 90% of pediatric patients, their current oral health problems fit well in the four OHRQoL dimensions. For 91% of oral health problems they intended to prevent in the future were related to these dimensions as well. Both numbers increased to at least 96% when experts analyzed dentists´ explanations of why some oral health problems would not fit these four categories. CONCLUSIONS The study revealed the four fundamental components of dental patients, i.e., the four OHRQoL dimensions (Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact) are also applicable for pediatric patients, regardless of whether they have current or future oral health concerns, and should be considered when measuring OHRQoL in the pediatric dental patient population.

Abstract
Background We performed a systematic review of studies conducted in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to assess the impact of oral diseases on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). Materials and methods Searches were performed of the following PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, Scopus, and LILACS databases. Randomized clinical trials, quasi-experimental studies, cohort studies, case and control studies, and cross-sectional studies which included at least 100 participants evaluating the impact of oral diseases on OHRQoL were included. PROSPERO registry number: CRD42020156098. Results After exclusion of duplicates, 3310 articles were identified, 40 of which were included in this review. 90% of the studies were conducted in Brazil. The most commonly used OHRQoL measuring instruments were CPQ 11–14 (n = 9), ECOHIS (n-8) and B-ECOHIS (n = 8). The study designs included 32 cross-sectional, 2 cohort and 6 case and control studies. Most of the studies were conducted in children (n = 25) and adolescents (n = 9). Most studies identified an impact on OHRQoL in children, adolescents and adults with oral diseases. Moreover, greater oral disease severity had a greater impact on OHRQoL. Conclusions Most studies in LAC report a negative impact of diseases on OHRQoL. More longitudinal studies are required to confirm the results of these studies.

Abstract
Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) before and after treatment of hypersensitive molars affected by molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) with a sealing. Methods Thirty-eight children with two MIH-affected molars showing hypersensitivity and non-occlusal breakdowns were included. Hypersensitivity was assessed with an evaporative (air) stimulus. Two affected teeth were sealed by two calibrated operators using a split-mouth design: Clinpro Sealant in combination with Scotchbond Universal, and Ketac Universal (3M), respectively. OHRQoL was measured using the German version of the CPQ8–10 (CPQ-G8–10) at baseline, and after 1, 4, 8, and 12 weeks, respectively. Results The CPQ total score decreased significantly from a mean of 14.7 (±5.9) to 6.4 (±4.7) (p < 0.001) 1 week after treatment revealing improved OHRQoL. After 12 weeks, OHRQoL improved again proven by a decreased mean score of 2.7 (±3.2). Conclusions Sealing of hypersensitive MIH-affected molars revealed a significant improvement of OHRQoL immediately and throughout the 12-week follow-up. Clinical relevance Hypersensitivity can be a major complaint in patients with MIH. This is the first study evaluating the effect of sealing on OHRQoL in affected patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Knowledge about the magnitude of Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) impairment across dental patient populations is essential for clinical practice, public health and research. Within the project Mapping Oral Disease Impact with a Common Metric, this systematic review aimed to describe functional, pain-related, aesthetic and broader psychosocial impact of oral conditions with a single metric using OHRQoL dimensions Oral Function, Oro facial Pain, Oro facial Appearance and Psychosocial Impact. METHODS A search using PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, CINAHL and PsycINFO was performed on 8 June 2017, and updated on 14 January 2019. Only publications in the English language were considered. To characterise the extent of available standardised and clinically relevant OHRQoL information, we determined the number of publications, dental patient populations, which are clinically similar, and patient samples within each population with four-dimensional OHRQoL information using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) questionnaire. A quality assessment and a publication bias assessment were performed. RESULTS We identified 171 publications that characterised 199 dental populations and 329 patient samples with four-dimensional OHRQoL information. The vast majority of populations were only characterised by one patient sample. Study quality was not related to OHRQoL magnitude, and substantial publication bias could be excluded. CONCLUSIONS Standardised and clinically relevant information using the four OHRQoL dimensions Oral Function, Oro facial Pain, Oro facial Appearance and Psychosocial Impact was available for a significant number of dental patient populations. Findings can provide a framework to interpret OHRQoL impairment of individual patients, or groups of patients, for clinical practice, public health and research.

Abstract
Objectives The influence of the administration method used to collect oral health–related quality of life (OHRQoL) in children remains largely unknown. The aim of this study was to determine whether the OHRQoL information obtained using the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS) differed with different methods of data collection (face-to-face interview, telephone, or self-administered questionnaire). Materials and methods The OHRQoL of 38 preschool children, aged 1 to 5 years, was measured using the German version of the ECOHIS. The instrument was administered to the caregivers of these children using three different methods, with an interval of 1 week between each administration. Test-retest reliability for the repeated ECOHIS-G assessments across the three methods of administration, agreement, and convergent validity was determined. Results Kappa coefficients for agreement between two different methods of administration, respectively, ranged from moderate to substantial (0.47 to 0.65). Test-retest reliability was moderate (ICC 0.65–0.79). Conclusion In conclusion, the three methods of administration (face-to-face interview, telephone interview, or self-administered questionnaire) of the ECOHIS-G were comparable in 1- to 5-year-old preschool children. Clinical relevance All three methods of administration can be used to obtain valid and reliable OHRQoL information in German speaking countries.

Abstract
Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact-the dimensions of oral health-related quality of life-capture dental patients' oral health problems worldwide and regardless of whether the patient currently suffers from oral diseases or intends to prevent them in the future. Using scores for these dimensions, the project Mapping Oral Disease Impact with a Common Metric (MOM) aims to provide four-dimensional oral health impact information across oral diseases and settings. In this article, project authors summarize MOM's findings and provide recommendations about how to improve standardized oral health impact assessment. Project MOM's systematic reviews identified four-dimensional impact information for 189 adult and 22 pediatric patient populations that were contained in 170 publications. A typical functional, pain-related, aesthetical, and psychosocial impact (on a 0-8 impact metric based on two items with a response format 0 = never, 1 = hardly ever, 2 = occasionally, 3 = fairly often, 4 = very often) was about 2 to 3 units. Project MOM provides five recommendations to improve standardized oral health impact assessment for all oral diseases in all settings.

Abstract
Randomised clinical trial (RCT) is the best study design to evaluate the effect of the treatment and preventive healthcare procedures. The effects of the tested treatments on patient's health are compared in terms of outcomes, which are used to evaluate the participants' health changes. However, these outcomes should be relevant for the target population. In that way, RCTs represent the type of primary study design that provides the most reliable evidence to implement therapies into the clinical practice. In this review, an outline of some aspects related to the choice of RCTs' outcomes was presented, focusing on the conduction of relevant trials in Paediatric Dentistry. The importance and necessity of defining a primary outcome were addressed, preferentially a clinically relevant endpoint. The patients should perceive this outcome, and changes in this variable should reflect directly patient's health improvement or impairment. Moreover, considerations about the objective or subjective variables, use of surrogate outcomes, and the increasing tendency to develop core outcome sets were also presented in this review. The main idea of this manuscript is the RCTs must evaluate outcomes relevant to the children's oral health in order to contribute to the implementation of treatments in the evidence-based health practice.

Abstract
Oral health‐related quality of life (OHRQoL) is an important dental patient‐reported outcome which is commonly based on 4 dimensions, namely Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance and Psychosocial Impact. The Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) is the most used OHRQoL instrument designed for adults; nevertheless, it is used off‐label for children as well. Our aim was to describe the OHRQoL impact on children measured by OHIP and map the information to the 4‐dimensions framework of OHRQoL. A systematic literature review following the PRISMA statement was conducted to include studies assessing OHRQoL of children ≤ 18 years using OHIP. The OHIP seven‐domain information was converted to the OHRQoL 4‐dimension scores accompanied by their means and 95% confidence interval. Risk of bias was assessed using a six‐item modified version of quality assessment tool for prevalence studies. We identified 647 articles, after abstracts screening, 111 articles were reviewed in full text. Twelve articles were included, and their information was mapped to the 4‐dimensional OHRQoL. Most included studies had low risk of bias. OHRQoL highest impact was observed for Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, and Orofacial Appearance for children with: Decayed‐Missing‐Filled‐Surface (DMFS) of ≥10, anterior tooth extraction without replacement and untreated fractured anterior teeth, respectively. Across all oral health conditions, Psychosocial Impact was less affected than the other three dimensions. OHIP has been applied to a considerable number of children and adolescents within the literature. One instrument and a standardised set of 4‐OHRQoL dimensions across the entire lifespan seem to be a promising measurement approach in dental and oral medicine.
