Abstract
Removable partial dentures (RPDs) offer a broad range of aesthetics and restorative functions for partially edentulous patients. This systematic review examines patients' satisfaction rates and the factors that influence RPD satisfaction. This systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines and the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews. A systematic literature search was done on PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar using preset inclusion criteria. A total of 923 non-duplicate articles were screened, and 35 were included in this review. Among the included studies, RPDs generally exhibited high satisfaction rates, with reported rates ranging between 50% and 81%. Several factors influenced satisfaction. Age played a major role, with older adults expressing higher satisfaction. Gender differences were also noted, especially in appearance satisfaction where women were more satisfied with RPDs than men. Prior experience with RPDs correlated positively with overall satisfaction. The number and location of missing teeth, as well as the type of RPD (metal vs. flexible), significantly influenced satisfaction levels. Flexible dentures were more satisfactory than metal RPDs. Attachments, such as magnetic attachments and implants, increased satisfaction. Patient complaints, encompassing pain, aesthetics, and cleanliness, were identified as common sources of dissatisfaction. The results underscore the significance of customizing RPD treatment to individual needs, considering factors that influence RPD satisfaction. Recognizing the importance of influential factors such as age, gender RPD experience, etc., for clinicians seeking to optimize patient outcomes in RPD therapy is crucial.

Abstract
PURPOSE Although polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) dentures can be repaired using autopolymerizing acrylic resin, achieving it using polyamides is difficult. This study aimed to achieve acceptable bond strength using autopolymerizing acrylic resin by applying surface treatments to the polyamide denture base material. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-six disc-shaped samples (27 polyamide, 9 PMMA) were prepared. Based on the surface treatment applied, the polyamide samples were divided into three groups: No surface treatment (n = 9), tribochemical silica coating + silane coupling agent (n = 9), and 9% hydrofluoric acid + tribochemical silica coating +silane coupling agent (n = 9). PMMA specimens received no surface treatment. Polyamide and PMMA surfaces had auto-polymerizing acrylic resin bonded on them, and then a shear bond strength test was performed between them after aging. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used, and statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. RESULTS PMMA had the highest shear bond strength, the untreated polyamide group had the lowest shear bond strength, and the difference was significant (p < 0.05). The group treated with 9% hydrofluoric acid, tribochemical silica coating, and silane coupling agent exhibited the highest shear bond strength of the polyamide groups, and the bond strength in this group was comparable to the PMMA specimens (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The polyamide denture repair strength can be improved by 9% hydrofluoric acid, tribochemical silica coating, and silane coupling agent application to the polyamide surface.

Abstract
Purpose: Clasp-penetrating oral injury caused by removable partial
dentures is basically a minor injury but can also cause complications such as
continuous bleeding. No systematic investigations of clasp injury have been
undertaken. The aims of this study were to reveal the characteristics of clasp
injury and estimate variables associated with clasp injury of the oral mucosa.
Methods: This retrospective study used clasp injury as the
outcome variable, with primary predictor variables of demographic
characteristics, medical history, local characteristics, and denture design,
including the site of the affected clasp. Denture type was examined according to
the classification of Kennedy. Collected data were statistically analyzed using
the χ2 test or Fisher’s exact test and the level of significance
adopted was 5%. Results: This report consists of 73 cases (36 men
and 37 women), of which 31 cases had precise denture information. Among them,
clasp injuries were more common with Class I (51.6%) and Class II (32.3%)
dentures (p < .001). Premolar (64.5%) and canine clasps
(32.3%) were significantly more frequently involved
(p < .001). Conclusion: Clasp injury of the
oral mucosa was significantly more common on the tongue, and mandibular free-end
saddle dentures with premolar or canine clasps were the most notable risk factor
for clasp-penetrating injury of the oral mucosa.

Abstract
Background: Removable partial dentures are a frequently used prosthetic treatment in the elderly population, but different types or RPDs might guarantee different chewing capabilities. In many studies, the relationship between chewing and aging has been reported and it has been shown that efficient chewing can improve the overall quality of life. Objectives: In the present study, the relationship between maximum bite force (MBF) and RPDs was studied. A relationship between the body mass index (BMI) and the type of prosthesis was also analyzed. Methods: 240 elderly patients, 120 males and 120 females, with bilateral posterior edentulism (class 1 of Kennedy classification) who had been wearing an RPD for at least a year, were recruited. Patients were divided into two groups: Group 1: male (n = 60) and female (n = 60) patients with bilateral edentulous areas located posterior to the remaining natural teeth and natural teeth in the opposite dental arch. Group 2: male (n = 60) and female (n = 60) patients with maxillary and mandibular bilateral edentulous areas located posterior to the remaining natural teeth. Their Body Mass Index (BMI) and Maximum bite force (MBF) were measured and compared according to the material and design of their RPD. Results: In both Groups, patients wearing cobalt-chrome alloy RPDs (Co-Cr-RPD) (Group 1: 20.25 ± 6.7 MBF, p < 0.001; Group 2: 16.0 ± 5.7 MBF, p < 0.001) had an increased MBF when compared to polymethylmethacrylate RPD (PMMA-RPD) (Group 1: 12.9 ± 3.36 MBF; Group 2: 10.4 + 2.8 MBF), and Valplast RPD (V-RPD) (Group 1: 14.3 ± 4.7 MBF; Group 2: 11.3 ± 3.4 MBF) users. There were no significant differences in bite force between patients wearing PMMA-RPD and V- RPD in both Groups. Patients in Group 2 showed a lower MBF than those in Group 1 (Group 1: 16.05 ± 6.13 MBF; Group 2: 12.6 ± 4.84 MBF; p < 0.001). Conclusions: A reduction in chewing force can lead to choosing softer foods for nutrition, which can lead to an increase in BMI. Our results show that only CoCr-RPD wearers were able to chew consistent food, whereas PMMA- RPD and V-RPD, due to the properties of the materials, their instability, and the possibility of causing pain during mastication, determined a limitation in the choice of food for many of the participants.

Abstract
PURPOSE To provide, in a clinical case-control study, 1-year data on edentulous residual ridge dimensional changes for patients wearing removable partial dentures (RPD) with Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) framework, fabricated with a digital workflow, and a control group of untreated patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ten patients were treated with PEEK RPD, and six controls were studied. Intraoral scans at baseline (T0) and after a median period of 1 year (T1) were superimposed, trimmed, and reoriented (T0r and T1r), moved to a metrology software, and realigned. A curve (C0) was then traced on T0r, along the residual ridge crest; its projection (C1) on T1r was obtained. The mean distance C0-C1 was the dependent variable of interest and represented the 1-year changes in the height of the edentulous ridge. In addition, mean 3D distance between T0 and T1 at each edentulous area was measured. Differences in these outcomes measured between RPD treated and control groups were statistically assessed. RESULTS Twenty-six and 14 edentulous areas were investigated in the RPD treated and control groups, respectively. No significant differences were observed for potentially confounding variables, such as median follow-up time (12.5 vs. 13 months, respectively), the alignment accuracy between T0r and T1r (0.01 mm vs. 0 mm, respectively), the median number of remaining teeth (6 vs. 8.5, respectively), and the median length of edentulous areas (25.5 mm vs. 22.8 mm, respectively). For the outcomes of interest, no statistically significant difference was seen in the mean distance between C0 and C1 (i.e., changes in residual ridge height: -0.39 ± 0.52 mm vs. -0.52 ± 0.54 mm, respectively) or in the mean 3D distance at corresponding points of the denture bearing areas (-0.3 ± 0.46 mm vs. -0.4 ± 0.35, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Although 1 year is a relatively short observation period, this clinical study shows that there are no short-term differences in edentulous residual ridge height and overall dimensions between patients wearing PEEK RPD, fabricated with a digital workflow, and controls without an RPD.

Abstract
To evaluate the flexural and fatigue properties of a polyester disk material used in milled resin clasps of removable partial dentures, experimental polyester disk (mPE), injection-molded polyester (iPE), and polymethyl methacrylate disk (mPMMA) were examined by three-point bending tests and cyclic fatigue tests at 0.75 or 1.50 mm deflection. The mPE exhibited significantly higher flexural strength than the iPE (p<0.05). Meanwhile, the mPMMA displayed higher flexural modulus and strength than the polyesters. The mPE exhibited a significantly lower residual strain than the iPE at the cyclic 0.75 mm deflection (p<0.05); however, microcracks were observed in the mPE at the 1.50 mm deflection. The mPMMA showed a high residual strain at the 0.75 mm deflection and fractured within 1,000 cycles at the 1.5 mm deflection. The higher flexural strength and lower residual strain of the mPE compared with the iPE suggest the advantages of milled resin clasps within a limited deflection.

Abstract
Purpose To compare stress distribution in polyacetyl based flexible RPD (FRPD) with cast metal RPD (CRPD) by using three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) and patient satisfaction by using OHIP-14 questionnaire in participants with Kennedy's class I partially edentulous mandibular arch rehabilitated with CRPD and FRPD. Material and methods For FEA, 3D models of Kennedy's class I partially edentulous mandibular arch, CRPD in chrome-cobolt alloy, and polyacetyl based FRPD were geometrically modelled and subjected to a vertical load of 100 N bilaterally. The in vivo comparison of satisfaction was assessed by enrolling 22 participants with Kennedy's class I partially edentulous mandibular arch. After randomization, 11 participants were rehabilitated by CRPD (group C), and 11 participants by polyacetyl based FRPD (group F). OHIP-14 questionnaire in Hindi language was filled at 1 week and 1 year after denture insertion. Results Von Mises stress distribution in CRPD was maximum in mesial rest seat of the primary abutment (100 MPa) and minimum for edentulous ridge (7 MPa on bone and 6 MPa on mucosa). Von Mises stress distribution for polyaccetyl based FRPD was maximum in ridge (25 MPa) and minimum in periodontal ligament of the second premolar (3 MPa). Patient satisfaction in group F was significantly more than in group C at end of 1 year (P = .0158). Conclusion FRPD is useful in periodontally compromised abutment teeth and CRPD in resorbed ridge conditions. Patient satisfaction is more with polyacetyl based flexible RPD when compared with cast metal RPD at the end of 1 year.

Abstract
Masticatory performance is directly correlated with masticatory muscle work to grind and cut the food. Chewing efficacy is decisive to eating a variety of foods needed maintain general health status at all ages. Older people have oral problems that get worse with age. Elders have more pathologies such as periodontal diseases, caries, tooth loss and inadequate dental prostheses than younger subjects. Objectives: to investigate the correlation between masticatory bite force (MBF) and body mass index (BMI) vs. aging and sex. Methods: This study was performed on 426 subjects (213 females plus 213 male) assigned into five different groups by age. Group “A” aged from 20 to 35 years; group “B” aged 45–59 years; group “C” aged 60–69 years; group “D” aged 70–79 years; and group “E” aged more than 79 years. Results: There were not statistically significant differences in right-side MBF versus left-side MBF. The differences between sex were statistically significant with a stronger bite in males than females (p < 0.05). At the same time, younger subjects had a stronger bite than elders (p < 0.05). In group “E”, more corpulent subjects (BMI > 25) had an MBF higher than less corpulent subjects (BMI < 25, p < 0.05). The analysis of mean MBF showed a statistically significant difference within all groups stratified by BMI with mean values inversely proportional with age (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The results in our study confirm data from many scientific papers. The importance of the present paper was to correlate data between and within a large sample with a wide range of ages. Our sample subjects had a 31%–33% decrease in MBF from group “A” to group “E” group, but they all had full permanent dentation and they preserved a valid MBF.
