Abstract
Nutrition in early life plays a key role in shaping an infant's future health. There is limited understanding of the perspectives of Vietnamese mothers with children under 24 months of age regarding breastmilk expression, donation and use. In this cross-sectional study, an online survey was administered through two parenting social media communities to assess opinions on breastmilk expression, breastmilk donation including contributions from bereaved mothers and the use of donor human milk. A 4-point Likert scale was used to evaluate respondents' opinions, and demographic and breastfeeding information was collected. Among 375 respondents, almost 30% had received breastmilk from another woman, either through direct breastfeeding (14.7%), expressed breastmilk (12.5%) or from a human milk bank (2.7%). In this survey of 375 mothers, 84.0% indicated they would store excess breastmilk, while 75.7% and 69.6% would donate to a human milk bank or another mother, respectively. When faced with insufficient breastmilk, 88.5% of mothers would seek ways to increase supply, whereas 23.8% considered using commercial milk formula. Regarding milk expression among the 375 mothers, 78.4% preferred electric pumps, compared to 48.6% for manual pumps and 45.9% for hand expression. Additionally, 80.5% of the 375 mothers would suggest donating stored milk to bereaved peers and 85.6% would suggest mothers with mild COVID-19 to continue breastfeeding with precautions. These findings indicate that this sample has positive views on breastfeeding, breastmilk donation and the use of donor human milk.

Abstract
The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic affected breastfeeding women in various ways. Understanding their experiences during the pandemic is crucial for informing actionable recommendations, evidence-based strategies and future policies to support breastfeeding during global pandemics. This review aimed to synthesise qualitative evidence on women's breastfeeding perceptions, experiences and support needs during the pandemic. The Joanna Briggs Institute's (JBI) guidelines on systematic reviews of qualitative evidence were followed. MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL and Web of Science Core Collection databases were searched. Methodological quality of included papers was assessed using JBI's checklist for qualitative research. The synthesised findings were generated using JBI's meta-aggregation approach. The JBI ConQual process was used to rank each synthesised finding. Fifty-two papers were included. The synthesised findings included: (1) women's awareness and commitment to breastfeeding during the pandemic, (2) the multifaceted breastfeeding experiences of women during the pandemic, (3) breastfeeding practices and challenges for working women, (4) professional support during the pandemic: navigating breastfeeding in an evolving health care context and (5) family and peer support groups during the challenging times of the pandemic. Breastfeeding women require clear information, accessible in-person lactation support, family emotional support, food security and protection of psychological well-being. The review reported diverse breastfeeding experiences, from social support challenges to positive aspects like remote work. Breastfeeding support and lactation consultants should be considered as essential services in future pandemics. Food security is crucial for breastfeeding households. Lactation services could prioritise face-to-face consultations for physical challenges and providing online informational support. Future research could explore innovative breastfeeding education strategies.

Abstract
Breastfeeding is the optimal form of nutrition for infants and young children. The World Health Organization recommends that babies are breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months of life, and up to the age of 2 years or beyond in combination with complementary food. Breastfeeding initiation and continuation rates are suboptimal globally and very low in the Republic of Ireland where health promotion initiatives and healthcare professional support predominantly focus on the important phase of initiation and early months of the breastfeeding journey. This qualitative descriptive study aimed to explore the experiences of women who chose to breastfeed their children beyond 1 year of age in the Republic of Ireland. Fourteen women participated in semi-structured interviews. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and thematic analysis was conducted. The analysis generated three overarching themes: (1) Influences on breastfeeding beyond 1 year, (2) Sustaining breastfeeding and (3) Benefits of breastfeeding beyond 1 year. Family, friends, peers, culture and commercial milk formula marketing had an influence on breastfeeding journeys. Support, determination, knowledge, bed-sharing and Covid-19 pandemic social restrictions helped to sustain breastfeeding beyond 1 year. Benefits of breastfeeding beyond 1 year such as nutrition, strengthening of emotional bonds, development of a parenting tool, and protection of child and maternal health were identified. Our findings support the need for discussions and further research on the normalization of breastfeeding beyond 1 year in the Republic of Ireland, targeted health promotion initiatives and education programmes for healthcare professionals on supporting the continuation of breastfeeding.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of this integrative review is to understand (1) how parents in specific populations engage with online breastfeeding, chestfeeding, or lactation support groups, (2) how these support groups influence extended breastfeeding duration and other outcomes, and (3) whether the use of support groups by these specific populations has changed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS Of the articles identified across 4 electronic databases, 10 studies met the inclusion criteria; they were published between 2013 and 2023, written in English, and focused on the use of online peer support groups for breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and lactation support in specific populations. Eight of these studies are qualitative, 1 is a randomized controlled trial, and 1 is mixed methods. RESULTS Eight themes were identified: (1) overcoming lack of real world support, (2) normalization, (3) practical support, (4) emotional support and shared experiences, (5) building a bridge to in-person relationships, (6) reciprocity and activism, (7) self-efficacy and outcomes, and (8) issues with online support groups. DISCUSSION Specific subpopulations of breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and lactating parents and their partners found comfort in online support groups because they normalized more unique feeding practices and offered a space to provide and receive encouragement. Additionally, this review includes fathers/partners as a previously ignored subpopulation who benefit from education and support with breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and lactation. This subpopulation is also an area for expanded research on the use of online support groups by partners of lactating parents.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Remote forms of breastfeeding support, such as helplines and social media, offer a flexible and convenient form of support to offer help at critical points, e.g., when the risk of breastfeeding cessation is high. Currently, there is little known about who accesses different forms of remote breastfeeding support and what factors impact overall satisfaction. As part of an evaluation of the UK National Breastfeeding Helpline (NBH) (which offers breastfeeding support via a helpline and online media), we aimed to (a) understand who accesses different forms of NBH support, and (b) identify key factors associated with overall satisfaction for helpline and online media support. METHODS All service users who contacted the NBH between November 2021 and March 2022 were invited to participate in the evaluation via an online survey. Survey questions explored the type and timing of support, reasons for the contact, attitudes towards the help and support received, impact of the support on breastfeeding experiences and demographic factors. Chi-squared and Mann-Whitney tests explored variations in who accessed the helpline or online media. Multiple linear regression models were fitted to explore the factors related to the service users' 'overall satisfaction'. The quantitive data were combined with qualitative comments into descriptive themes. RESULTS Overall, online media users were significantly more likely to be younger, White, multiparous, less educated and have English as a first language compared to those who contact the helpline. Similar factors that significantly influenced overall satisfaction for both support models were the service being easy to access, receiving helpful information that met expectations, resolving breastfeeding issues, and feeling reassured and more confident. Significant factors for the helpline were callers feeling understood and more knowledgeable about breastfeeding following the call, being able to put into practice the information provided, feeling encouraged to continue breastfeeding, feeling that the volunteer gave the support that was needed, and seeking out additional support. CONCLUSIONS Online and helpline forms of breastfeeding support suit different demographics and call purposes. While optimal breastfeeding support needs to be accessible, flexible and instrumental, helpline users need real-time relational support to deal with more complex challenges.

Abstract
AIM To explore what Internet-based breastfeeding peer support offers to breastfeeding parents. DESIGN Integrative review. DATA SOURCES AND REVIEW METHODS A systematic literature search was conducted in March 2024 using the following electronic databases: CINAHL, The Cochrane Library, PubMed/MEDLINE and PsycINFO. Database searches yielded 717 results. Two researchers removed the duplicates (n = 256) and screened the remaining titles (n = 461), abstracts (n = 197) and full texts (n = 60) independently. Eventually, 19 studies were included in the review. The chosen studies had qualitative (n = 11), quantitative (n = 6), or mixed methods designs (n = 2) and were published between 2015 and 2024. Qualitative content analysis was conducted. RESULTS The main categories were supplying support that is responsive to the needs of parents and belonging to a breastfeeding community. The parents looked for and received breastfeeding support, advice, information, emotional support, reassurance and access to shared experiences from various online breastfeeding peer support groups. The support groups helped them in their breastfeeding decisions, thus making a difference in their breastfeeding experience. The support groups created breastfeeding communities for these parents and they were able to bond with others, feel like they belonged and share experiences. Additionally, these breastfeeding communities helped to normalize various breastfeeding practices. CONCLUSION Breastfeeding peer support groups can offer parents the support and guidance they seek and a sense that they are part of a breastfeeding community. However, it is vital these groups are efficiently moderated to ensure the advice parents receive is evidence-based and the support is encouraging. IMPACT These findings show that well-moderated online breastfeeding peer support can offer parents high-quality support. It is essential for health care professionals to be aware of the various options available in order to recommend high-quality support groups for breastfeeding parents. REPORTING METHOD PRISMA. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION This was an integrative review therefore no patient or public contribution was necessary.

Abstract
AIM To explore the experiences, expectations and needs of mothers from low-socioeconomic status at 1 month postpartum. DESIGN Descriptive qualitative. METHODS Mothers from low-socioeconomic status and irrespective of their parity were invited to participate in one-to-one interviews at 1 month postpartum. Semi-structured interviews were conducted until data saturation. Interviews were audio recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed thematically. Written informed consent was obtained. RESULTS Twenty mothers participated and six themes were identified: (1) No choice but to find meaning; (2) Father as a major pillar of support; (3) 'Kampung' Spirit; (4) Trials and Tribulations of Transition to Motherhood; (5) Shame, guilt and internalized stigma and (6) Reclaiming the power. CONCLUSION This study reflected the unique struggles of mothers from low-socioeconomic status with pregnancy, childbirth and early postpartum and the wider health inequities within Singapore's maternal health system. To provide much-needed support and improved care, the stakeholders within government, healthcare providers and social organizations should consider the niche needs of this community. IMPLICATIONS FOR PATIENT CARE Nurses need to reflect on their own biases and ensure consistent care delivery regardless of socioeconomic status. When delivering patient education, patient-centred and sincere advice rooted in personal experience can help to establish rapport. IMPACT This study is the first to explore the experiences of mothers from low-socioeconomic status in the Singapore context. Low-socioeconomic status mothers experienced less autonomy over their health, the care they received and their childcare options. As mothers adjusted to their new roles, they struggled to cope. However, as they were wary of the stigma surrounding poverty and their guilt of not being a 'good mother', they preferred to seek informal support from their family, friends and self-help through learning from social media, as compared to formal, external help. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To qualitatively describe breastfeeding experiences among mothers who used galactagogues to increase their milk supply. DESIGN One-time, semistructured phone interviews. SETTING US. PARTICIPANTS Breastfeeding mothers (n = 19) who reported ever consuming foods, beverages, or herbal supplements to increase their milk supply in a cross-sectional online survey were purposefully sampled to participate in this qualitative study. Participants were diverse in terms of race and ethnicity, education, income, infant age (0-18 months), and prior breastfeeding experience (32% first-time breastfeeding). PHENOMENON OF INTEREST Reasons for trying to increase milk supply, sources of information about increasing milk supply, and strategies tried to increase milk supply. ANALYSIS Interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS Participants expressed determination and commitment to breastfeeding but unexpectedly struggled to breastfeed and increase their milk supply. They sought information from multiple sources and used individualized approaches to address milk supply concerns on the basis of recommendations from others, as well as the perceived convenience, cost, palatability, and safety of potential strategies. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Results suggest a need to expand breastfeeding education and support so that lactating parents anticipate common breastfeeding challenges and are aware of evidence-based strategies for increasing their milk supply.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The establishment of breastfeeding may sometimes be stressful. We aimed to analyze the sense of coherence in lactating women to determine the general resistance resources during lactation and the professional interventions that promote a high sense of coherence. METHODS A search of studies in English, Spanish, or Portuguese on lactating women's sense of coherence was carried out in PubMed, PsycINFO, ScienceDirect, and CINAH databases published between May and November 2022. Study quality and risk of bias were examined according to ICROMS and STROBE criteria. RESULTS We identified 316 studies, of which eight -all of adequate quality- were included, three qualitative and five quantitative. A high level of maternal sense of coherence was related to longer duration, self-efficacy, attachment, and enjoyment of the breastfeeding experience. The main general resistance resources were to receive social support, particularly from partners, mothers, and health professionals. The interventions that favored the sense of coherence were mainly those related to a close, empathic, personalized, comprehensive, and family-centered professional support. CONCLUSIONS The detection of the level of sense of coherence in lactating mothers may help identify women with a higher risk of weaning and establish professional intervention strategies that improve the breastfeeding experience.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Breastfeeding practices are influenced by the maternal-infant bond relationship. Mothers of preterm infants in the puerperium face many challenges and support is needed to maintain breastfeeding after hospital discharge. This study explored the breastfeeding experiences among mothers of preterm infants and challenges that influenced their breastfeeding practices. METHODS A qualitative phenomenological approach was used involving the mothers of preterm infants during the puerperium in Shanghai who fulfilled the inclusion criteria and consented to participate in the study. The mothers were recruited using purposive sampling. Eighteen participants were interviewed using semi-structured in-depth interviews. All interviews were recorded in digital audio, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using thematic analysis. FINDINGS The breastfeeding experience among mothers of preterm infants included four themes: breastfeeding motivation, breastfeeding challenges, breastfeeding support and education, and response to parental stress. Breastfeeding challenges included perceived insufficient milk, bottle preference, and maternal-infant separation. Two sub-themes of breastfeeding support included breastfeeding knowledge and approach. CONCLUSION To overcome breastfeeding challenges and improve the breastfeeding rate of preterm infants after discharge, medical professionals must develop individualized breastfeeding plans based on a comprehensive assessment of the needs of mothers who delivered a preterm infant.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this paper is to explore the influence of Web 2.0 as a complementary support network to traditional networks for the promotion of breastfeeding (BF). METHOD Qualitative and exploratory study carried out from September 8 to December 31, 2022, at the Las Vegas Health Centre (Corvera), Health Service of the Principality of Asturias (SESPA). The participants were 5 professional experts in BF and 7 breastfeeding mothers, who made up two focus groups, selected by convenience sampling. The analysis consisted of transcription of data, in-depth reading, analysis by grouping concepts and classification of the information into categories. RESULTS After the final analysis, seven categories were identified, organised according to the proximity of the topic and the proposed objective, based on the most significant discourses of the study: difficulties during BF, importance of receiving help: first support networks, other support networks, A health system with deficiencies, pandemic and BF 2.0, Health 2.0 and apps in BF: new form of support and characteristics of an "ideal" app on BF. CONCLUSIONS Web 2.0 has revolutionised the way mothers access information and support on BF, creating an online support network connecting mothers and professionals around the world, providing up-to-date information and enabling a source of emotional support through the creation of peer groups. This positive influence of Web 2.0 has had a significant impact on promoting BF and empowering mothers to make informed decisions about their breastfeeding process.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite evidence of the impact of breastfeeding information on breastfeeding rates, it is unknown if information sources and impact vary by race/ethnicity, thus this study assessed race/ethnicity-specific associations between breastfeeding information sources and breastfeeding. METHODS We used data from the 2016-2019 Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System. Race/ethnicity-stratified multinomial logistic regression was used to estimate associations between information source (e.g., family/friends) and breastfeeding rates (0 weeks/none, < 10 weeks, or ≥ 10 weeks; < 10 weeks and ≥ 10 weeks = any breastfeeding). All analyses were weighted to be nationally representative. RESULTS Among 5,945,018 women (weighted), 88% reported initiating breastfeeding (≥ 10 weeks = 70%). Information from family/friends (< 10 weeks: aORs = 1.58-2.14; ≥ 10 weeks: aORs = 1.63-2.64) and breastfeeding support groups (< 10 weeks: aORs = 1.31-1.76; ≥ 10 weeks: aORs = 1.42-2.77) were consistently associated with breastfeeding and duration across most racial/ethnic groups; effects were consistently smaller among Alaska Native, Black, and Hispanic women (vs White women). Over half of American Indian and one-quarter of Black women reported not breastfeeding/stopping breastfeeding due to return to school/work concerns. CONCLUSIONS Associations between breastfeeding information source and breastfeeding rates vary across race/ethnicity. Culturally tailored breastfeeding information and support from family/friends and support groups could help reduce breastfeeding disparities. Additional measures are needed to address disparities related to concerns about return to work/school.

Abstract
It is established that access to ongoing informational, emotional and social support from trained health professionals including midwives assists mothers in meeting their breastfeeding goals. Social media is increasingly being used to offer this support. Research has demonstrated that support via platforms such as Facebook can improve maternal knowledge and self-efficacy and ultimately breastfeeding duration. One specific form of support that is under researched is the use of Breastfeeding Support Facebook (BSF) groups that are aimed at supporting women in specific local areas, often with links to face to face support. Initial research highlights that mothers' value these groups but the role that midwives play in offering support to local mothers through these groups has not been examined. The aim of this study was therefore to examine mothers' perceptions of midwifery support for breastfeeding delivered through these groups, specifically when midwives played an active role in being a group 'moderator' or leader. An online survey was completed by 2028 mothers who were part of local BSF groups comparing the experiences of those participating in groups moderated by midwives versus other moderators such as peer supporters. Moderation was an important factor in mothers' experiences, with trained support associated with greater engagement and more frequent visits, impacting on perceptions of group ethos, reliability and inclusivity. Midwife moderation was uncommon (5% of groups) but valued: midwife moderators offered a high level of support to mothers in their groups, with 87.5% having received midwife support often or sometimes and 97.8% rating this useful or very useful. Access to a midwife moderated group was also associated with viewing local face to face midwifery support for breastfeeding more positively. This is a significant finding, highlighting that online support complements face-to-face support in local settings (67% of groups were linked to a physical group), and improves continuity of care (14% of mothers who had midwife moderators received care from them). As such midwife moderated or supported groups have the potential to add value to local face to face services and improve breastfeeding experiences in communities. The findings have important implications to support the development of integrated online interventions to improve public health.
