Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of MiSight 1 day soft contact lenses (MiSight CL) in Korean children with mild-to-moderate myopia. In addition, the study compared the effects of MiSight CL in children who had or had not previously used orthokeratology contact lenses (Ortho-K). METHODS A total of 66 children aged 5 to 16 years, who were prescribed MiSight CL, were included in the study. Based on a myopia degree of -4 diopters (D), children were divided into mild and severe myopia groups to compare the effectiveness of myopia suppression. In addition, 55 eyes previously using Ortho-K were compared with 76 eyes using MiSight CL for the first time. RESULTS The average follow-up period was 6.58±3.74 months. The average refractive value before using MiSight CL was 3.64±1.56 D, and there was no significant change in the final visit. Comparing myopia suppression between different degrees of myopia and previous use of Ortho-K lenses, there was no significant change in refractive error before and after using MiSight CL (unpaired t test, P>0.05). The main reason for Ortho-K failure was low visual acuity after correction. Regardless of Ortho-K history, children showed good visual acuity after wearing MiSight CL, and no other side effects were observed. CONCLUSIONS MiSight CL effectively inhibited the progression of myopia in Korean children with mild-to-moderate myopia. MiSight CL offer the advantage of easy application, making them a viable alternative when Ortho-K are not suitable.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine the efficacy of extended depth of focus (EDOF) contact lenses for controlling myopia progression in children through a 1-year randomised clinical trial. METHODS A total of 104 children aged 7-15 years, with spherical equivalent refraction ≤-0.50 D, were randomly assigned to wear SEED 1 dayPure EDOF Mid contact lenses (n=48) or single vision spectacle lenses (n=56). Cycloplegic refraction with Shin-Nippon open field autorefractor and axial length with Lenstar LS 900 was determined at the baseline and 12-month visits. The compliance, visual discomfort and dryness questionnaires were administered during the final visit. RESULTS Sixty-nine children (control: n=38; treatment: 31) completed the 12-month follow-up visit, with no difference in baseline characteristics between the groups. Mean (SEM) myopia progression in the 12th month was -0.48±0.07D in the control group and -0.20±0.08D in the treatment group. Mean axial elongation was 0.22±0.03 mm and 0.11±0.03 mm in the control and treatment groups, respectively. SEED 1 dayPure EDOF Mid contact lenses slowed myopia progression by 59% (-0.28D; p=0.01) based on spherical equivalent refraction and controlled axial length by 49% (0.11 mm; p=0.007) in comparison to single vision spectacle lenses. None of the participants reported any adverse effects. While most of the participants (82%) were comfortable with the contact lenses, 11% reported occasional dryness and 14% experienced mild fluctuations in visual acuity after immediate lens wear. CONCLUSION Daily wear of SEED 1 dayPure EDOF Mid contact lenses in Indian children showed a significant effect in controlling myopia progression and axial elongation.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Myopia and its vision-threatening complications present a significant public health problem. This review aims to provide an updated overview of the multitude of known and emerging interventions to control myopia, including their potential effect, safety, and costs. METHODS A systematic literature search of three databases was conducted. Interventions were grouped into four categories: environmental/behavioral (outdoor time, near work), pharmacological (e.g., atropine), optical interventions (spectacles and contact lenses), and novel approaches such as red-light (RLRL) therapies. Review articles and original articles on randomized controlled trials (RCT) were selected. RESULTS From the initial 3224 retrieved records, 18 reviews and 41 original articles reporting results from RCTs were included. While there is more evidence supporting the efficacy of low-dose atropine and certain myopia-controlling contact lenses in slowing myopia progression, the evidence about the efficacy of the newer interventions, such as spectacle lenses (e.g., defocus incorporated multiple segments and highly aspheric lenslets) is more limited. Behavioral interventions, i.e., increased outdoor time, seem effective for preventing the onset of myopia if implemented successfully in schools and homes. While environmental interventions and spectacles are regarded as generally safe, pharmacological interventions, contact lenses, and RLRL may be associated with adverse effects. All interventions, except for behavioral change, are tied to moderate to high expenditures. CONCLUSION Our review suggests that myopia control interventions are recommended and prescribed on the basis of accessibility and clinical practice patterns, which vary widely around the world. Clinical trials indicate short- to medium-term efficacy in reducing myopia progression for various interventions, but none have demonstrated long-term effectiveness in preventing high myopia and potential complications in adulthood. There is an unmet need for a unified consensus for strategies that balance risk and effectiveness for these methods for personalized myopia management.

Abstract
PURPOSE To summarize and analyze critically the scientific evidence focused on the effectiveness of the use of hydrophilic contact lenses (HCLs) in myopia control, as well as their impact on visual quality and the involvement on the accommodative and binocular function. METHODS This systematic review was developed selecting all original studies which evaluated HCLs for myopia control with follow-up of at least 1 year. Eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were retrieved from PubMed MEDLINE and Scopus. Methodological quality of the studies was assessed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) for RCTs. RESULTS The search provided a total of 276 articles, selecting 13 according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The majority of studies evaluating the effectiveness of HCL showed a good efficacy in myopia progression, providing a good quality of vision. The quality of these studies was found to be suitable according to the CASP tool. The accommodative and binocular function with these lenses was evaluated in few studies, reporting a trend to an increase in the accommodative response and exophoria in near vision, while maintaining good level of stereopsis. Aberrometry and pupillometry were only studied in one trial, in which the authors did not find changes in these variables after the use of a myopia control HCL. CONCLUSIONS There is a strong evidence about the effectiveness of different HCLs designs for slowing down myopia progression in children, providing all of them good levels of visual quality. However, there is still poor evidence about changes in accommodation and binocular function, as well as in pupil size and aberrometry with myopia control HCLs, being necessary more studies focused on this issue.

Abstract
PURPOSE To review the rebound effect after cessation of different myopia control treatments. METHODS A systematic review that included full-length randomised controlled studies (RCTs), as well as post-hoc analyses of RCTs reporting new findings on myopia control treatments rebound effect in two databases, PubMed and Web of Science, was performed according to the PRISMA statement. The search period was between 15 June 2023 and 30 June 2023. The Cochrane risk of bias tool was used to analyse the quality of the selected studies. RESULTS A total of 11 studies were included in this systematic review. Unifying the rebound effects of all myopia control treatments, the mean rebound effect for axial length (AL) and spherical equivalent refraction (SER) were 0.10 ± 0.07 mm [-0.02 to 0.22] and -0.27 ± 0.2 D [-0.71 to -0.03] after 10.2 ± 7.4 months of washout, respectively. In addition, spectacles with highly aspherical lenslets or defocus incorporated multiple segments technology, soft multifocal contact lenses and orthokeratology showed lower rebound effects compared with atropine and low-level light therapy, with a mean rebound effect for AL and SER of 0.04 ± 0.04 mm [0 to 0.08] and -0.13 ± 0.07 D [-0.05 to -0.2], respectively. CONCLUSIONS It appears that the different treatments for myopia control produce a rebound effect after their cessation. Specifically, optical treatments seem to produce less rebound effect than pharmacological or light therapies. However, more studies are required to confirm these results.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effect of peripheral defocus soft contact lenses (PDSCLs) on controlling myopia progression in children and adolescents, and to compare it with orthokeratology (Ortho-K) and single vision lenses (SVLs). METHODS We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Medline, CNKI, CBM, VIP, and WanFang Data databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies that investigated the effects of PDSCLs on myopia control in children and adolescents. The published languages were limited to English and Chinese. The risk bias tool provided by the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale were used to assess the risk bias of included studies of RCTs and CTs. The published biases of included studies were assessed by Egger`s test. RESULTS We included 21 studies, comprising 13 RCTs and 8 cohort studies, with a total of 1337 participants in the PDSCLs group, 428 in the Ortho-K group, and 707 in the SVLs group. The meta-analysis indicated no significant difference between PDSCLs and Ortho-K in controlling the increase of diopter (MD = 0.01, 95% CI: -0.06, 0.09; P = 0.69) and axial length (MD = -0.01, 95% CI: -0.02, 0.00; P = 0.28). Compared with SVLs, PDSCLs had a better effect in controlling the increase of diopter (MD = 0.23, 95% CI: 0.17, 0.28; P < 0.00001) and axial length (MD = -0.11, 95% CI: -0.12, -0.09; P < 0.00001) in children and adolescents. CONCLUSIONS Children and adolescents wearing PDSCLs can achieve better myopia control than those wearing SVLs, and their effect is comparable to that of Ortho-K.

Abstract
Despite high discontinuation rates for myopia optical interventions, limited attention has been given to the potential rebound effects post-discontinuation. This systematic review aims to assess the extent of the rebound effects following the cessation of common clinical optical myopia-control interventions in children. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane CENTRAL, and ClinicalTrials.gov was conducted from inception to October 2023. The rebound effects, defined as changes in the axial length or spherical equivalent during and after treatment cessation, were categorized into four levels. These studies encompassed 703 participants and spanned from 2019 to 2023, with durations of treatment and cessation ranging from 6 months to 3.5 years and from 2 weeks to 5 years, respectively. This review, encompassing 14 studies, revealed a predominant strong rebound effect in orthokeratology (8 studies), a weak rebound effect in multifocal soft contact lenses (4 studies), and a variable rebound effect in peripheral-plus spectacle lenses (2 studies). Notably, with the increasing cessation duration, the rebound effects diminished, potentially linked to the reversal of choroidal thickening and the disappearance of peripheral myopic defocus. In conclusion, a temporal trend of rebound effects exists in all three myopia optical interventions, possibly contributing to their myopia control mechanisms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To compare axial elongation in 8-11-year-old myopes wearing orthokeratology (OK) lenses with different back optic zone diameters (BOZD), defocus incorporated soft contact (DISC) lenses, and single-vision soft contact lenses (SCLs). METHODS A total of 122 children (aged 8-11 years) with spherical equivalent refraction (SER) between - 1.00 D and - 4.00 D were enrolled in this prospective study and randomly assigned to four groups: 5.0 mm-BOZD OK, 6.2 mm-BOZD OK, DISC, and single-vision SCLs. Children in each group were further divided into subgroups stratified by the average baseline SER: low myopic eyes (SER: - 1.00 D to - 2.50 D) and moderate myopic eyes (SER: - 2.50 D and over). Axial length (AL) was measured at baseline and after one year. RESULTS The 5.0 mm-BOZD OK, 6.2 mm-BOZD OK, and DISC groups exhibited significantly slower AL elongation than the SCL group. The proportion of slow progressors (AL elongation ≤ 0.18 mm/year) in the first three groups was 42%, 23%, and 29%, respectively. Furthermore, one-year AL elongation was significantly smaller in the 5.0 mm-BOZD OK group compared with the 6.2 mm-BOZD OK group. Regardless of SER, children in the 5.0 mm-BOZD OK and DISC groups showed comparably slower AL elongation than those in the SCL group. However, fitting with 6.2 mm-BOZD OK lenses significantly retarded AL elongation in moderate myopic eyes, but not in low myopic eyes. CONCLUSIONS Overall, 5.0 mm-BOZD OK lenses, 6.2 mm-BOZD OK lenses, and DISC lenses were effective in retarding AL elongation in 8-11-year-old myopes compared with single-vision SCLs, but for children with SER less than - 2.50 D, fitting with 5.0 mm-BOZD OK lenses and DISC lenses yielded better myopia control efficacy compared to wearing single-vision SCLs or 6.2 mm-BOZD OK lenses.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of repeated low-intensity red light (RLRL) treatment for childhood myopia. DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis METHODS: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, and Wanfang from inception to February 8, 2023. We used the RoB 2.0 and ROBINS-I tools to assess the risk of bias and then used a random-effect model to calculate the weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% CIs. The primary outcomes were WMD in spherical equivalent refractive error (SER), WMD in axial length (AL), and WMD in subfoveal choroid thickness (SFChT). Subgroup analyses were performed to investigate the sources of heterogeneity based on variation in follow-up and study design. The Egger and Begg tests were used to assess publication bias. Sensitivity analysis was used to verify the stability. RESULTS This analysis included 13 studies (8 randomized controlled trials, 3 non-randomized controlled trials, and 2 cohort studies) involving 1857 children and adolescents. Eight studies met the meta-analysis criteria, and the WMD for myopia progression between RLRL and the control group was 0.68 diopters (D) per 6 months (95% CI = 0.38 to 0.97 D; I2 = 97.7%; P < .001) for SER change; -0.35 mm per 6 months (95% CI = -0.51 to -0.19 mm; I2 = 98.0%; P < .001) for AL elongation; and 36.04 µm per 6 months (95% CI = 19.61 to 52.48 µm; I2 = 89.6%; P < .001) for SFChT change. CONCLUSIONS Our meta-analysis shows that RLRL therapy may be effective for delaying the progression of myopia. The evidence is low certainty, and larger and better randomized clinical trials with 2-year follow-ups are needed to improve the existing state of knowledge to inform medical guidelines more comprehensively.

Abstract
Myopia is a major public health problem worldwide, including India, with the global prevalence of myopia increasing rapidly over decades. The clinical and socioeconomic impact of myopia is also expected to rise with rising prevalence. Therefore, the focus has now been shifted to prevent the incidence and progression of myopia. However, there is lack of any standardized guidelines for myopia management. This document aims to generate a national-level expert consensus statement on the management of childhood myopia in the Indian scenario. The expert panel of pediatric ophthalmologists consisted of 63 members who met in a hybrid meeting. A list of topics deliberating discussion in the meeting was provided to the experts in advance and they were instructed to provide their opinions on the matter during the meet. The panel of experts then gave their views on each of the items presented, deliberated on different aspects of childhood myopia, and reached a consensus regarding the practice patterns in the Indian scenario. In case of opposing views or lack of a clear consensus, we undertook further discussion and evaluated literature to help arrive at a consensus. A written document is prepared based on recommendations explaining definition of myopia, refraction techniques, components and methods of workup, initiation of anti-myopia treatment, type and timing of interventions, follow-up schedule, and indications for revised or combination treatment. This article formulates evidence-based guidelines for progressing myopes and pre-myopes and also establishes uniformity in the management of childhood myopia in the country.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Previous studies have shown that combined use of orthokeratology and 0.01% atropine (AT) eye drops can strongly prevent axial elongation in myopic children. However, the efficacy of combined use with multifocal contact lens (MFCL) and 0.01% AT remains unclear. The aim of this trial is to clarify the efficacy of MFCL+0.01% AT combination therapy for myopia control and safety. METHODS This prospective study is a randomized, double-masked, placebo-controlled trial with four arms. A total of 240 children aged 6 to 12 years with myopia is recruited and randomly assigned to one of the four groups in a ratio of 1:1:1:1 as follows: group 1: MFCL+AT combination therapy, group 2: MFCL monotherapy, group 3: AT monotherapy, and group 4: placebo. The participants will continue the assigned treatment for 1 year. The primary and secondary outcomes are the comparisons of axial elongation and myopia progression in the four groups during the 1-year study period. DISCUSSION The present trial would determine whether the MFCL+AT combination therapy is more effective in slowing axial elongation and myopia progression in schoolchildren as compared with each monotherapy or placebo, and it also confirm acceptable safety of the combination therapy.
