Synthesis, Structure and Photophysical Properties of Ferrocenyl or Mixed Sandwich Cobaltocenyl Ester Linkedmeso-Tetratolylporphyrin Dyads

Boosting the activity of Mizoroki-Heck cross-coupling reactions with a supramolecular palladium catalyst favouring remote Zn⋯pyridine interactions

Transition metal catalysis benefitting from supramolecular interactions in the secondary coordination sphere in order to pre-organize substrates around the active site and reach a specific selectivity typically occurs under long reaction times and mild reaction temperatures with the aim to maximize such subtle effects. Herein, we demonstrate that the kinetically labile Zn⋯N interaction between a pyridine substrate and a zinc-porphyrin site serving for substrate binding is a unique type of weak interaction that enables identification of supramolecular effects in transition metal catalysis after one hour at a high reaction temperature of 130 °C. Under carefully selected reaction conditions, supramolecularly-regulated palladium-catalyzed Mizoroki-Heck reactions between 3-bromopyridine and terminal olefins (acrylates or styrenes) proceeded in a more efficient manner compared to the non-supramolecular version. The supramolecular catalysis developed here also displayed interesting substrate-selectivity patterns.

Intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer reactions of zinc(II) porphyrin dyads studied with a sub-ns time resolution

We report the dynamics of a intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer reaction of Zn(II)-porphyrin dyads that have a 2,2[Formula: see text]-bipyridine moiety at the periphery in the presence of Cu[Formula: see text] in methanol studied using laser flash photolysis with a sub-nanosecond time resolution. The photoinduced electron transfer reactions were observed from the excited [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] states of the Zn(II)-porphyrin to the Cu(II)-2,2[Formula: see text]-bipyridine moiety, and the structural dependence of the reactivity were discussed in terms of the distance between the electron donating and accepting centers.

Voltage Stimulated Anion Binding of Metalloporphyrin-induced Crystalline 2D Nanoflakes

Voltage-stimulated redox-active materials have received significant attention in the field of organic electronics and sensor technology. Such stimuli-responsive materials trigger the formation of crystalline nanostructures and facilitate the design of efficient smart devices hitherto unknown. Herein, we report that free-base and metallo-tetratolylporphyrin-linked ferrocene derivatives (H₂ TTP-Fc and ZnTTP-Fc) undergo distinct proton/anion binding mechanism in CHCl₃ during bulk electrolysis at applied voltage of 1.4 V to give [H₄ TTP-Fc]⁺ Cl^- and H⁺ [(Cl)ZnTTP-Fc]^- followed by nanospheres and crystalline 2D nanoflakes formation, confirmed by SEM and TEM images, by methanol vapor diffusion (MVD) approach. Moreover, X-ray diffraction analysis suggest that protonated H₂ TTP-Fc aggregates exhibit amorphous nature, whereas H⁺ [(Cl)ZnTTP-Fc]^- depict crystalline nature from layer-by-layer arrangement of nanoflakes assisted by π-π stacking and ion-dipole interactions.

Synthesis, characterization and photophysical properties of ferrocenyl and mixed sandwich cobaltocenyl ester linked meso-triaryl corrole dyads

We report here the design and synthesis of corrole-metallocene dyads consisting of a metallocene (either ferrocene (Dyad 1) or mixed sandwich [Formula: see text]-[C[Formula: see text]H[Formula: see text](COOH)]Co([Formula: see text]-C[Formula: see text]Ph[Formula: see text] (Dyad 2)) connected via an ester linkage at meso phenyl position. Both the dyads were characterized by [Formula: see text]H NMR, MALDI-TOF, UV-visible, fluorescence spectroscopies (steady-state, picosecond time-resolved), femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (fs-TA) and electrochemical methods. The absorption spectra of these dyads showed slight broadening and splitting of the Soret band that indicates a weak ground state interaction between the corrole macrocycle and metallocene part of the present donor–acceptor (D–A) system. However, in both the dyad systems, fluorescence emission of the corrole was quenched in polar solvents as compared to its parent compound 10-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-5,15-bis-(pentafluorophenyl ) corrole (Ph-Corr). The quenching was more pronounced in ferrocene derivatives than in cobaltocenyl derivatives. Transient absorption studies confirm the absence of photoinduced electron transfer from metallocene to correl for these dyad systems and the quenching of singlet state of corrole is found to enhance intersystem crossing due to heavy atom effect.

Light induced oxidation of an indoline derived system triggered spherical aggregates

Indoline based donor-acceptor system (InBT) exhibits a colour transition from pink to orange to yellow in chloroform facilitated by the photo-oxidation of the N,N-dimethyl indoline of InBT and neutralized by chloride counter ions upon light irradiation at short and long range excitation wavelengths of 320 and 500 nm, which leads to spherical aggregates when subjected to methanol vapour diffusion (MVD).

Structure dependence of intramolecular electron transfer reactions of simple dyads of a zinc(ii) porphyrin complex bearing a peripheral bipyridine moiety

Photoinduced intramolecular electron transfer and charge recombination reactions were investigated using various Zn(ii)-porphyrin dyads having a 2,2′-bipyridine moiety.
