Abstract
Background The Parkinson's Disease-Cognitive Rating Scale (PD-CRS) is a widely used tool for detecting mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in Parkinson's Disease (PD) patients, however, the neuroanatomical underpinnings of this test's outcomes require clarification. This study aims to: (a) investigate cortical volume (CVol) and cortical thickness (CTh) disparities between PD patients exhibiting mild cognitive impairment (PD-MCI) and those with preserved cognitive abilities (PD-IC); and (b) identify the structural correlates in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of overall PD-CRS performance, including its subtest scores, within a non-demented PD cohort. Materials and methods This study involved 51 PD patients with Hoehn & Yahr stages I-II, categorized into two groups: PD-IC (n = 36) and PD-MCI (n = 15). Cognitive screening evaluations utilized the PD-CRS and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). PD-MCI classification adhered to the Movement Disorder Society Task Force criteria, incorporating extensive neuropsychological assessments. The interrelation between brain morphology and cognitive performance was determined using FreeSurfer. Results Vertex-wise analysis of the entire brain demonstrated a notable reduction in CVol within a 2,934 mm2 cluster, encompassing parietal and temporal regions, in the PD-MCI group relative to the PD-IC group. Lower PD-CRS total scores correlated with decreased CVol in the middle frontal, superior temporal, inferior parietal, and cingulate cortices. The PD-CRS subtests for Sustained Attention and Clock Drawing were associated with cortical thinning in distinct regions: the Clock Drawing subtest correlated with changes in the parietal lobe, insula, and superior temporal cortex morphology; while the PD-CRS frontal-subcortical scores presented positive correlations with CTh in the transverse temporal, medial orbitofrontal, superior temporal, precuneus, fusiform, and supramarginal regions. Additionally, PD-CRS subtests for Semantic and Alternating verbal fluency were linked to CTh changes in orbitofrontal, temporal, fusiform, insula, and precentral regions. Conclusion PD-CRS performance mirrors neuroanatomical changes across extensive fronto-temporo-parietal areas, covering both lateral and medial cortical surfaces, in PD patients without dementia. The observed changes in CVol and CTh associated with this cognitive screening tool suggest their potential as surrogate markers for cognitive decline in PD. These findings warrant further exploration and validation in multicenter studies involving independent patient cohorts.

Abstract
Cognitive reserve has shown promise as a justification for neuropathologically unexplainable clinical outcomes in Alzheimer's disease. Recent evidence suggests this effect may be replicated in conditions like Parkinson's disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, and multiple system atrophy. However, the relationships between cognitive reserve and different cognitive abilities, as well as motor outcomes, are still poorly understood in these conditions. Additionally, it is unclear whether the reported effects are confounded by medication. This review analysed studies investigating the relationship between cognitive reserve and clinical outcomes in these α-synucleinopathy cohorts, identified from MEDLINE, Scopus, psycINFO, CINAHL, and Web of Science. 85 records, containing 176 cognition and 31 motor function effect sizes, were pooled using multilevel meta-analysis. There was a significant, positive association between higher cognitive reserve and both better cognition and motor function. Cognition effect sizes differed by disease subtype, cognitive reserve measure, and outcome type; however, no moderators significantly impacted motor function. Review findings highlight the clinical implications of cognitive reserve and importance of engaging in reserve-building behaviours.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE For patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), cognitive impairment is one of the most disabling non-motor symptoms, particularly in the late disease stages (LSPD). Without a common cognitive assessment battery, it is difficult to estimate its prevalence and limits comparisons across studies. In addition, some instruments traditionally used in PD may not be adequate for use in LSPD. We sought to identify instruments used to assess cognition in LSPD and to investigate their global characteristics and psychometric properties to recommend a cognitive battery for the LSPD population. METHOD We conducted a literature search of EMBASE and MEDLINE for articles reporting the use of cognitive tests in LSPD. The global characteristics and psychometric properties of the four most used cognitive tests in each cognitive domain were verified to recommend a cognitive assessment battery. RESULTS Of 60 included studies, 71.7% used screening scales to assess cognition. Of the 53 reported instruments, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, the Digit Span, the Trail Making Test, the Semantic Fluency test, the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test, the Brief Visuospatial Memory Test-Revised, the Boston Naming Test, the Judgment of Line Orientation, and the Clock Drawing Test corresponded best overall to the requirements considered important for selecting instruments in LSPD. CONCLUSION Screening scales are frequently used to assess cognition in LSPD. We recommend a cognitive assessment battery that considers the special characteristics of the LSPD population, including being quick and easy to use, with minimized motor demands, and covering all relevant cognitive domains.

Abstract
In clinical practice, different drawing tests are used for the assessment of cognitive efficiency in the geriatric population. However, so far, the contribution of motor skills to drawing performance has not been sufficiently examined in the late adult life span. This study was aimed at disentangling the role played by motor functioning in three well-known drawing tests that in the clinical field are commonly used to detect some signs of cognitive impairment of older individuals. One hundred and forty-nine community dwellers (Mage = 77.4 years, SD = 5.9 years) completed a battery of tests assessing global cognitive efficiency, drawing skills (i.e., Clock Drawing, Visuo-spatial Drawing ACE-R, Copy Figures Tests), handgrip muscular strength (HGS), and functional mobility (assessed through the Timed-Up-and-Go test). Significant relationships were found among those measures. Moreover, handgrip strength and functional mobility explained 12-19% of the variance in each drawing condition. Finally, participants exhibiting poorer HGS performed worse the drawing tasks and were successively recognized as cognitively deteriorated. In conclusion, these findings highlight that motor skills can significantly impact the assessment of cognitive efficiency in late adulthood. Therefore, in clinical practice, the concurrent assessment of basic motor functions (in terms of muscular strength and functional mobility) and cognitive efficiency of the geriatric population at risk for cognitive decline should be encouraged.

Abstract
In this manuscript, we review the epidemiology of movement disorders including Parkinson's disease (PD), atypical parkinsonism, essential tremor, dystonia, functional movement disorders, tic disorders, chorea, and ataxias. We emphasize age-, sex-, and geography-based incidence and prevalence, as well as notable trends including the rising incidence and prevalence of PD. Given the growing global interest in refining clinical diagnostic skills in recognizing movement disorders, we highlight some key epidemiological findings that may be of interest to clinicians and health systems tasked with diagnosing and managing the health of patients with movement disorders.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Dementia among migrants is an emerging phenomenon worldwide and the development of neuropsychological tests sensitive to cultural differences is increasingly regarded as a priority. The Clock Drawing Test (CDT) is one of the most used screening tools for the detection of cognitive decline. Nevertheless, there is still a debate about its adoption as a cross-cultural assessment. METHODS To identify cultural variables influencing performance at CDT, we performed a systematic review of literature on three databases of all studies considering the role of at least one of the following: (1) language; (2) education; (3) literacy; (4) acculturation; and (5) ethnicity. RESULTS We extrapolated 160 analyses from 105 studies. Overall, an influence of cultural determinants on performance at CDT was found in 127 analyses (79.4%). Regarding specific cultural factors, 22 analyses investigated the effect of ethnicity on CDT scores, reporting conflicting results. Only two scoring systems turned out to be sufficiently accurate in a multicultural population. Language influenced performance in only 1 out of 8 analyses. A higher level of education positively influenced test performance in 118 out of 154 analyses (76.6%), and a better quality of education in 1 analysis out of 2. A negative influence of illiteracy on CDT performance emerged in 9 out of 10 analyses. Acculturation affected performances at CDT in 1 out of 2 studies. CONCLUSIONS Based on the present findings, caution is needed when using CDT in a multicultural context, even if it requires limited linguistic competence.
