Abstract
High-fidelity simulation (HFS) training is suited to high-stakes, uncommon situations such as malignant spinal cord compression (MSCC), allowing for rare hands-on practice. This pilot study was created as the first of its kind to examine educational outcomes of a radiation therapist (RTT)-led multidisciplinary radiation oncology (RO) emergency simulation course. A multidisciplinary course design team composed of RO residents, radiation oncologists, RTT course instructors, and medical physicists created a high-fidelity MSCC simulation course using collaboratively developed learning goals. Fifteen learners including RO residents, senior RTT students, and a medical physics (MP) resident participated in a live, RTT-facilitated simulation. Participants completed anonymized pre- and post-simulation standard interdisciplinary education perception (IEP) scales and a course evaluation assessing educational outcomes. Standard IEP questionnaire results showed highly favorable perceptions of respondents' own specialty and other allied specialties, with mean total pre-simulation scores of 91.76 and post-simulation scores of 94.23. The course evaluation assessed 10 learning objective domains, with significant improvements seen in self-rated post-course knowledge in 9 domains. Pre-course evaluations showed that 6/15 participants agreed or strongly agreed that they felt comfortable in their knowledge of all included domains; after course completion, 14/15 participants agreed or strongly agreed they felt comfortable in all domains. Collaboratively designed and led HFS courses are not only viable but can be an effective means of improving learning outcomes for RO residents, RTT students, and MP residents.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Simulation based medical education (SBME) is fast becoming embedded into undergraduate medical curricula with many publications now describing its various modes and student self-reported impacts. This systematic review synthesizes the available literature for evidence of performance effects of SBME as an adjunct within traditional teaching programmes. METHODS A narrative systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines using Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, and PubMed databases for studies, published in English, reporting on general medical and surgical undergraduate SBME between 2010 to 2020. Two reviewers independently assessed potential studies for inclusion. Methods and topics of simulation with their assessments were evaluated. Descriptive statistics were used to describe pooled student cohorts. RESULTS 3074 articles were initially identified using the search criteria with 92 full-text articles then screened for eligibility. Nineteen articles, including nine randomised trials, concerning 2459 students (median 79/study), were selected for review. Cardiac scenarios were commonest (n=6) with three studies including surgical topics. Nine studies used mannequin simulators (median time/session 17.5minutes) versus standardised patients in seven (median time/session=82 minutes). Educational impact was measured by written (n=10), checklist (n=5) and OSCEs (n=3) assessment either alone or in combination (n=1, OSCE/written assessment). All articles reported a positive effect of SBME on knowledge including improved retention in three. CONCLUSION SBME, as an adjunct to existing curricula, improves knowledge-based performance of medical students at least in the short-term. Future studies should broaden its topics, assess longer term impacts and cost-effectiveness while also considering whether and what areas of traditional undergraduate learning it can replace.

Abstract
Introduction Conferences are an important avenue for dissemination of knowledge, research and provide networking opportunities for career development. The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted adoption of virtual platforms for delivery of these conferences. The aim of the study was to determine the utility and educational impact of a student-led virtual webinar to deliver an undergraduate cardiovascular conference compared to a traditional in-person conference. Methods We conducted a two-day virtual conference using the Zoom platform in June 2021. The conference consisted of cardiology subspecialty lectures, and workshops were conducted by a junior doctor, senior cardiology trainees and consultants. The conference also outlaid a virtual poster hall and oral presentation session while networking opportunities were encouraged using breakout rooms and poster hall chat function. A 38-item self-administered online questionnaire was designed and disseminated at the end of the conference to all attending delegates. All data analysis and data visualisation strategies were conducted on R statistical programming. Results Eight-hundred and forty students from 55 countries attended the event. Four hundred and ninety participants (58.5% response rate, 55.9% female) completed the questionnaire. Factors such as weekend conference (84.9%), student-led or organised (84.1%), environmental/sustainable (82.3%), appropriate level for me (81.5%) and comfort to present (80.8%) were deemed to be at least equal to traditional in-person conference. The conference also increased participants' interest, their core cardiology knowledge and improved their critical analysis and basic echocardiography skills [median 4 (IQR 3-5) for all parameters]. Overall, participants also found it easy to use the virtual platform [median 5 (IQR 5-5)] and easier to ask questions compared to in-person conferences [median 5 (IQR 4-5) vs median 4 (IQR 3-5), p < 0.001]. Conclusion Our virtual conference provided opportunities to students that the COVID-19 pandemic would have otherwise affected; however, its utility and educational impact will need to be assessed within its individual context of delivery.

Abstract
Background Person-centred simulation in health professions education requires involvement of the person with illness experience. Objective To investigated how real illness experiences inform simulated participants' (SP) portrayals in simulation education using a scoping review to map literature. Study selection Arksey and O'Malley's framework was used to search, select, chart and analyse data with the assistance of personal and public involvement. MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, Scopus and Web of Science databases were searched. A final consultation exercise was conducted using results. Findings 37 articles were within scope. Reporting and training of SPs are inconsistent. SPs were actors, volunteers or the person with the illness experience. Real illness experience was commonly drawn on in communication interactions. People with illness experience could be directly involved in various ways, such as through conversation with an SP, or indirectly, such as a recording of heart sounds. The impact on the learner was rarely considered. Conclusion Authentic illness experiences help create meaningful person-centred simulation education. Patients and SPs may both require support when sharing or portraying illness experience. Patients' voices profoundly enrich the educational contributions made by SPs.

Abstract
Lifelong learning is essential for the practicing cardiologist. Present lifelong learning mechanisms are stagnant and at risk for not meeting the needs of currently practicing cardiologists. With the increasing burden of cardiovascular disease, growing complexity of patient care, and ongoing pressures of nonclinical responsibilities, educational programming must evolve to meet the demands of the contemporary cardiovascular professional. A paradigm shift, replete with modern and practical educational tools, is needed in the lifelong learning armamentarium. Emerging evidence of novel educational strategies in graduate medical education supports the promise of broader application of these tools to different stages of professional life. In this commentary from the Fellows-in-Training Section Leadership Council, the authors propose 3 novel educational tools-personalized learning, adaptive learning, and the flipped classroom-to improve lifelong learning to meet the educational needs of fellows-in-training to practicing cardiologists alike.

Abstract
PURPOSE Simulation-based medical education (SBME) is gaining prominence as a tool to meet Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-mandated competency-based assessment educational goals. SBME is used in radiation oncology, although the type and extent are not clear. This study reports a systematic literature review designed to clarify the type and extent of radiation oncology SBME. METHODS AND MATERIALS The systematic review focused on radiation oncology SBME literature. The methods followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The inclusion criteria were identified according to the PICOS (population, intervention, comparison, outcome, and setting) framework. The population included undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education learners. Studies were limited to English-language studies published on or after January 1, 1990, in peer-reviewed journals. PubMed, MedEdPORTAL, and in-press articles were searched. The PubMed search was conducted using predefined search terms. References and similar articles were examined. Medical Subject Headings terms in selected articles were reviewed to ensure relevant terms were included. RESULTS Fifty-four SBME publications met the inclusion criteria. Only 9 of 54 studies (17%) self-identified as SBME. SBME types included screen-based simulators (56%), simulated environments (13%), virtual reality and haptic systems (13%), simulated patients (11%), part-task trainers (6%), and computer-based systems with mannequins (2%). A variety of radiation oncology skill sets were addressed, including contouring (54%), treatment planning (20%), clinical decision making (17%), anatomy and/or radiology (13%), radiation biology and/or physics (13%), communication skills and/or patient education (13%), brachytherapy (13%), and immobilization (11%). A target learning population was defined in 47 studies, including residents (53%), attending physicians (36%), medical students (21%), medical physicists (11%), radiation therapists (9%), nurses (6%), administrative staff (4%), and dosimetrists (4%). Learner feedback was reported in 32 studies. CONCLUSIONS Overall, this systematic literature review provides context and guidance for future radiation oncology SBME development. Appropriately framing SBME reports in the radiation oncology literature will facilitate development, implementation, and evaluation of SBME interventions. SBME resources should be centralized to facilitate dissemination and share resources.
