Abstract
This study aimed to compare incisional wound healing in cats and dogs after the topical application of Μanuka honey and a new medical device, Dermapliq. Comparisons were made between each treatment and control, between the two treatments, and between dogs and cats. Twelve cats and twelve dogs were included in this study, and the impact of the two substances was examined through cosmetic, clinical, ultrasonographical, and histological evaluation. The use of Dermapliq in first-intention wound healing achieved a significantly better cosmetic evaluation score and better total clinical score at days 20-41, compared to the control, in both dogs and cats. The ultrasonographically estimated wound area was smaller with Dermapliq compared to the control. Wounds treated with Dermapliq showed histologically less inflammation compared to the control. The use of Manuka honey did not show a significantly better cosmetic score compared to the control. Skin thickening was significantly higher after using Manuka honey compared to the control and so was the total clinical score. However, the median wound area, as was evaluated ultrasonographically, was significantly smaller when wounds were treated with Manuka honey, the difference being more apparent in dogs. Dermapliq was proven to be a better choice in achieving favorable wound healing than Manuka honey in dogs and cats in first-intention healing. In our study, cats had a statistically better cosmetic score and less skin thickening and scar width compared to dogs. Histologically, cats showed significantly less edema, higher inflammation and angiogenesis scores, and lower fibroblast and epidermis thickening scores when compared to dogs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The high-frequency ultrasonographic appearance of skin of dogs with atopic dermatitis (cAD) has not been described. OBJECTIVES To compare high-frequency ultrasonographic findings among lesional, macroscopically nonlesional skin of dogs with cAD, and the macroscopically nonlesional skin of healthy dogs. Additionally, to determine whether there is any correlation between the ultrasonographic findings in lesional skin and local Canine Atopic Dermatitis Extent and Severity Index, 4th iteration (CADESI-04) or its domains (erythema, lichenification, excoriations/alopecia). As a secondary aim, six cAD dogs were re-evaluated after management intervention. ANIMALS Twenty dogs with cAD (six were re-examined after treatment) and six healthy dogs. MATERIALS AND METHODS In all dogs, ultrasonographic examination was performed on the same 10 skin sites, using a 50 MHz transducer. Wrinkling of skin surface, presence/width of subepidermal low echogenic band, hypoechogenicity of dermis and thickness of the skin were evaluated and scored/measured blindly. RESULTS Dermal hypoechogenicity was more common and severe in lesional compared to macroscopically nonlesional skin of dogs with cAD. In lesional skin, presence/severity of wrinkling of skin surface and of dermal hypoechogenicity were positively correlated with presence/severity of lichenification, while severity of dermal hypoechogenicity was positively correlated with local CADESI-04. A positive correlation between the change in skin thickness and the change in the severity of erythema during treatment was noted. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE High-frequency ultrasound biomicroscopy may be useful for the evaluation of skin of dogs with cAD and for evaluating the progression of skin lesions during treatment.

Abstract
The study aimed to compare incisional wound healing with intradermal suture patterns performed with (a) absorbable suture with burying of the knots and (b) nonabsorbable suture anchored with clips. Ten dogs were included in the study. Surgically created skin incisions were apposed with continuous intradermal suture pattern with 4/0 poliglecaprone 25 with burying of the knots and continuous intradermal pattern with 4/0 polypropylene with clips. Cosmetic, clinical, ultrasonographic and histological scores were evaluated. The intradermal pattern with clips was easier to perform and required significantly less time to complete than the intradermal suture with burying of the knots. Cosmetic, clinical, ultrasonographic and histological evaluation scores did not differ significantly between the techniques. Irrespective of the technique used, the cosmetic, ultrasonographic, clinical and histological appearances of the incisions improved over time. In conclusion, polypropylene was found to be a safe and effective suture material for use with intradermal suture pattern with clips in dogs and to have an easy and quick application. However, in our sample, its earlier removal from wounds than poliglecaprone 25 was not found to be associated with a supposedly beneficial effect on wound healing and scar appearance. Both suture materials can be useful in intradermal suture techniques in dogs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Autologous lipotransfer aims to restore aging-associated volume loss, but with low predictability owing to 20-90% first-year loss of transferred fat. Enrichment by adipose-derived stem cells within the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) aims to improve volume retention through their differentiation potential and paracrine actions exerted by secreted trophic and angiogenic factors. Assessing studies lacked split-face designs, and used multitudes of enrichment ratios, preparation techniques and evaluation methods ending in contradictory reports regarding enrichment advantage. AIM To test whether enriching the autologous fat graft with SVF will increase its residual volume as compared to non-enriched graft. A standardized enrichment protocol and ratio and objective assessment were employed. PATIENTS AND METHODS In a split-face design, and after random assignment, bilateral temple augmentation using non-enriched versus SVF-enriched autologous lipotransfer were compared in middle-aged females otherwise healthy non-pregnant or breast-feeding females abstaining from esthetic or weight-controlling procedures. Temple volume scale (TVS), skin layers' thickness measured by ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM), visual analog scale for patients' satisfaction, and side effects were blindly assessed at 1 week, 3 months, and 6 months. RESULTS In the included 15 females, TVS was significantly lower (0.5 ± 0.5 versus 1.1 ± 0.7, P = 0.0001), and% hypodermal augmentation was significantly higher (70.92 ± 58.09 versus 18.93 ± 19.33, P = 0.001) on the SVF-enriched side at 6 months. Patient satisfaction was similar bilaterally (P = 1), as were sequelae frequencies as lumping, edema, and ecchymosis. CONCLUSION SVF enrichment of transferred fat significantly improved its residual volume at 6 months; a conclusion that needs further validation. UBM was an informative objective tool for the following temple skin thickness changes. Trial registration clinical trials.gov (NCT03965936).

Abstract
The INHAND (International Harmonization of Nomenclature and Diagnostic Criteria for Lesions) Project (www.toxpath.org/inhand.asp) is a joint initiative of the societies of toxicologic Pathology from Europe (ESTP), Great Britain (BSTP), Japan (JSTP), and North America (STP) to develop an internationally accepted nomenclature for proliferative and nonproliferative lesions in laboratory animals. The purpose of this publication is to provide a standardized nomenclature for classifying lesions observed in most tissues and organs from the dog used in nonclinical safety studies. Some of the lesions are illustrated by color photomicrographs. The standardized nomenclature presented in this document is also available electronically on the internet (http://www.goreni.org/). Sources of material included histopathology databases from government, academia, and industrial laboratories throughout the world. Content includes spontaneous lesions, lesions induced by exposure to test materials, and relevant infectious and parasitic lesions. A widely accepted and utilized international harmonization of nomenclature for lesions in laboratory animals will provide a common language among regulatory and scientific research organizations in different countries and increase and enrich international exchanges of information among toxicologists and pathologists.

Abstract
Simple Summary A flash glucose monitoring system (FGMS) has been validated for use in dogs with diabetes mellitus and diabetic ketoacidosis. It continuously measures the glucose in the interstitial fluid through a small filament (5 mm long) inserted under the skin. Interstitial glucose concentrations are reportedly comparable to whole blood glucose concentrations. However, several factors can influence the performance of interstitial sensors, including the proportion of interstitial fluid in a tissue. The influence of skin thickness on flash glucose monitoring system accuracy has not been investigated in previous studies; therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate whether FGMS accuracy is affected by skin thickness. On the basis of our results, skin thickness seems to affect FGMS measurements; the mean bias was significantly inversely correlated (p = 0.02; r = −0.6) with the mean skin thickness, and clinical accuracy according to ISO 15197:2013 criteria was observed only in dogs with skin thickness > 5 mm, with 99% of the results falling in zone A + B of the Parkes consensus error grid analysis. In dogs with thin skin (<5 mm), the clinical accuracy was low, and the results should be interpreted with caution. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether FGMS accuracy is affected by skin thickness. Fourteen client-owned diabetic dogs on insulin treatment were prospectively enrolled in the study. The dogs were divided into two groups according to their ultrasound-measured skin thickness: dogs with skin thickness < 5 mm (Group 1) and dogs with skin thickness > 5 mm (Group 2). On days 1, 7 and 14, glucose curves were obtained simultaneously using the FGMS and a validated portable blood glucose meter. Paired measurements were used to calculate the mean bias and to determine accuracy according to ISO 15197:2013 criteria. The mean bias was significantly inversely correlated (p = 0.02; r = −0.6) with the mean skin thickness. Clinical accuracy was observed only in Group 2, with 99% of the results in zone A + B of the Parkes consensus error grid analysis.
