For Leishmania species discrimination, sample films of intact parasites and their extracted DNA were analyzed by FTIR micro-spectroscopy. Hyperspectral datasets that comprise mid-infrared fingerprints were submitted to multivariate analysis tools such as principal components analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA).
