Abstract
PURPOSE Our review aims to analyze the effect of dual-task training (DTT) on balance in healthy older adults. METHODS PubMed, EbscoHost, Web of Science (WOS), Scopus, Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, EBSCO Open Dissertations, ULAKBIM (TR Index) and YOK (Council of Higher Education Thesis Center) databases and the gray literature were searched. The quality of the studies was assessed with the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool and statistical analysis of the data was performed with Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software. A funnel plot and Egger's test were used to detect publication bias. Fourteen studies with 691 participants were included. RESULTS According to the results of our study, DTT was found to have a significant benefit on balance in older adults than the non-intervention group (standardized mean difference (SMD): -0.691: -1.153, -0.229, 95 % confidence interval (CI)). Furthermore, DTT was superior to different intervention groups in improving balance in older adults (SMD: -0.229: -0.441, -0.016, 95 % CI). CONCLUSION The findings of this review suggest that DTT may be an effective intervention to improve balance in healthy older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gait analysis using inertial measurement devices can identify multifaceted gait disorders after a stroke. Although the usefulness of gait assessment using inertial measurement devices has been reported, its accuracy in discriminating gait independence in patients hospitalized for subacute stroke has not yet been validated. RESEARCH QUESTION Can trunk acceleration indices discriminate between dependent and independent walking in patients with subacute stroke? METHODS Thirty-five patients with subacute stroke (mean ± standard deviation, 75.5 ± 9.8 years, 19 males), who were able to understand instructions, had a premorbid modified Rankin scale <3, and were able to walk 16 m straight ahead under supervision were included. The stride regularity, harmonic ratio, and normalized root mean square of trunk accelerations were measured in three directions (mediolateral, vertical, and anterioposterior) during comfortable walking. The Functional Ambulation Categories were used as the dependent variable to classify the patients into two groups (dependent and independent walking groups), and each trunk acceleration index was used as the independent variable to calculate the area under the curve using receiver operating characteristic curves. RESULTS Twelve patients were in the dependent group and 23 were in the independent group. The normalized root mean square in both the mediolateral and vertical directions were excellent discriminators of walking independence, with an area under the curve greater than 0.8. The cutoff values (sensitivity/specificity) were 2.20 m2/s2 (0.783/0.833) and 2.82 m2/s2 (0.739/0.833), respectively. SIGNIFICANCE The magnitude of vertical and lateral acceleration during gait in patients with subacute stroke, has excellent accuracy in discriminating between dependent and independent gaits. The results of this study will be useful for inexperienced clinicians working with stroke patients presenting with gait disturbances to accurately determine gait independence based on objective data.

Abstract
Introduction With aging, dual task (DT) ability declines and is more cognitively demanding than single tasks. Rapidly declining DT performance is regarded as a predictor of neurodegenerative disease. Task training and non-invasive transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) are methods applied to optimize the DT ability of the elderly. Methods A systematic search was carried out in the PUBMED, TDCS (transcranial direct current stimulation) databases, as well as Web of Science, and a qualitative analysis was conducted in 56 included studies. Aiming to summarize the results of studies that implemented tES, task training, or the combination for improving DT ability and related performance changes in healthy elderly and geriatric patients. For different approaches, the training procedures, parameters, as well as outcomes were discussed. Results Task training, particularly cognitive-motor DT training, has more notable effects on improving DT performance in the elderly when compared to the neuromodulation method. Discussion Anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (L-DLPFC), or its combination with task training could be promising tools. However, additional evidence is required from aged healthy people and patients, as well as further exploration of electrode montage.

Abstract
(1) Background: aging is associated with functional changes such as balance, which plays a critical role in older adults. Physical exercise has been established as a factor capable of modulating these age-related alterations. (2) Methods: a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) was conducted. The systematic search was performed in the PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, the SPORTDiscus and Cochrane Library databases. Articles were included if participants were 65 years or older, healthy and performing resistance training, aerobic training, balance training or multicomponent training. Studies were excluded if there was a combination of training with other types of intervention. The protocol of this systematic review was published in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) with the code CRD42021233252 (3) Results: the search strategy found a total of 1103 studies. After removing duplicates and the inclusion and exclusion criteria, eight articles were included in the meta-analysis, with a total of 335 healthy older adults analyzed. The results showed no significant differences between the intervention groups and the control groups after the exercise programs. (4) Conclusions: interventions based on different types of exercise improved static balance in elderly population, but without statistically significant difference in comparison with the control groups.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Footwear adjustment is recommended in the management plan of leg length discrepancy. However, it is not clear how the outsole of motion control shoe adjustment influences trunk symmetry and walking performance. RESEARCH QUESTION Does bilateral adjustment of the outsole affect trunk and pelvis symmetry and ground reaction force during walking in individuals with leg length discrepancy? METHODS 20 mild leg length discrepancy participants were recruited into a cross-sectional study. All subjects performed a walking trial with their habitual shoes to determine the outsole adjustment. Four trials of walking were carried out in the order of unadjusted and bilateral adjusted motion control air-cushion shoes. Shoulder level differences and trunk and pelvic motion were assessed, while the ground reaction force at the heel strike was reported. A paired t-test was performed to compare the differences between the conditions with a significance level at p < 0.05. RESULTS During walking trials, mild leg length discrepancy participants with the adjusted shoe displayed lower variations in the maximum shoulder height differences (p = 0.001) and trunk rotation angle (p = 0.002) than those with the unadjusted shoe. Also, there was a significant reduction in the vertical ground reaction force (p = 0.030), but not in the anteroposterior or mediolateral directions, during walking in the adjusted shoe condition compared to the unadjusted shoe condition. SIGNIFICANCE The outsole adjustment of the bilateral motion control shoes can improve trunk symmetry while decreasing the ground impact at the heel strike. The study provides additional information to prescribe or recommend footwear adjustment to improve walking symmetry in leg length discrepancy participants.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Balance impairment causes frequent falls in older adults, and preventing falls remains challenging. Dual-task (DT) training reduces falls by improving balance, but the precise theory is not fully understood. This review aims to explore the theories underlying the effectiveness of DT in improving balance and reducing falls in older adults. METHODS Eleven electronic databases were searched from database inception to June 2022. Two reviewers independently performed study screening and data extraction. The risk of bias (RoB) in the included studies was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration RoB 2 tool. RESULTS The searches yielded 1478 citations, of which 30 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the review. Twenty-two of the 30 included studies utilized the motor-cognitive type of DT for training, while six used motor-motor and two utilized cognitive-cognitive DT. The included studies reported 20 different theories to explain the effectiveness of DT for improving balance and reducing falls in older adults. The predominant theory identified in the included studies was attention theory (n = 14). Overall, 26 studies reported improved balance and five studies found a reduction in fall incidence following DT training. Balance and falls improved significantly in 15 motor-cognitive DT intervention studies. CONCLUSION Attention shifting between two tasks is reported to occur following DT training. Motor-cognitive DT training improves balance and reduces fall incidence in older adults by shifting attention based on the difficulty and priority of a task from the motor to the cognitive task.
