Anti-counterfeiting labels with controllable and anti-interference coding information based on core-shell Ag@SiO2 nanomaterials for ink printing

The core-shell structured Ag@SiO2 nanomaterial integrated with surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy promises a critical application in anti-counterfeiting. Security labels have been fabricated based on Ag@SiO2 embedded with Raman reporters. The Ag@SiO2 nanomaterial shows good stability and excellent anti-interference property for anti-counterfeiting. Multiple kinds of Raman probe molecules have been anchored in the Ag@SiO2 labels to provide specific and abundant encoding information. The flexible encoding security information could be controlled conveniently by adjusting probe molecules, which not only enrich the SERS information but also improve the level of anti-counterfeiting. Furthermore, the Ag@SiO2 shown excellent stability in organic solvent, and successfully used in ink for the anti-counterfeiting application.

Modulation of Buried Interface by 1-(3-aminopropyl)-Imidazole for Efficient Inverted Formamidinium-Cesium Perovskite Solar Cells

Considering the direct influence of substrate surface nature on perovskite (PVK) film growth, buried interfacial engineering is crucial to obtain ideal perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, 1-(3-aminopropyl)-imidazole (API) is introduced at polytriarylamine (PTAA)/PVK interface to modulate the bottom property of PVK. First, the introduction of API improves the growth of PVK grains and reduces the Pb2+ defects and residual PbI2 present at the bottom of the film, contributing to the acquisition of high-quality PVK film. Besides, the presence of API can optimize the energy structure between PVK and PTAA, which facilitates the interfacial charge transfer. Density functional theory (DFT) reveals that the electron donor unit (R-C ═ N) of the API prefers to bind with Pb2+ traps at the PVK interface, while the formation of hydrogen bonds between the R-NH2 of API and I- strengthens the above binding ability. Consequently, the optimum API-treated inverted formamidinium-cesium (FA/Cs) PSCs yields a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 22.02% and exhibited favorable stability.

Effect of the functionalisation agent on the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectrum: Case study of pyridine derivatives

Nowadays, the use of functionalised surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates has become common. These surface modifying agents notably act as Raman reporters, as sensors of biological processes (pH, redox probes) or to increase the sensitivity and/or the specificity of SERS detections. However, the effects of the functionalisation agents are deeply examined in very few studies, even though they can affect the aggregation behaviour of the SERS substrate. Moreover, depending on their concentration and on the pH, their spectral signature can be modified and they can even degrade if stored inappropriately. In this context, this paper aims at emphasising the importance of the different aspects previously listed in the selection of a functionalisation agent. Pyridine derivatives were picked out to highlight these parameters, as some of these compounds are commonly used to be grafted onto SERS substrates. Two widespread syntheses of nanoparticles were selected as SERS substrates: citrate-reduced gold and silver nanoparticles. The surface of the nanoparticles was functionalised with several pyridine derivatives at different concentrations and in several solvents. It was observed that the molecules under study had a concentration-dependent effect on nanoparticle aggregation. A stability study was furthermore conducted in order to determine the best preservation conditions of the grafting solutions. In conclusion, this paper shines a light on the relevance of the investigation of the too-often neglected behaviour of the surface modifying agents. Before their application in SERS analyses, parameters such as the label concentration should therefore be included in an experimental design to optimise the sample preparation.

The adsorption of thiophenol on gold--a spectroelectrochemical study

The adsorbate formed by adsorption of thiophenol on a polycrystalline gold electrode and brought into contact with aqueous solutions of 1 M HClO4 and 0.1 M KClO4 has been studied using cyclic voltammetry and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. A strong adsorption is deduced from observations made using cyclic voltammetry. From the SER spectra, interactions of thiophenol with the gold surface via a gold-sulfur bond with the aromatic ring pointing away from the surface is concluded for both electrolyte solutions.
