Abstract
Paracoccidioides sp.-Herpes simplex virus (HSV) co-infection was not reported until now and malabsorption syndrome is a rare complication of the acute/subacute form (AF) of paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM), characterized by life-threatening abnormalities, such as fat and protein loss, lymphopenia, ascites, and intense immunosuppression. A 21-year-old woman presented the PCM AF with intense involvement of the abdominal and intestinal lymphoid organs, which leads to the malabsorption syndrome and severe immunosuppression. This patient developed a fatal-disseminated HSV infection associated with the paracoccidioidal disease. This case demonstrates that, in addition to the antigen-specific immunosuppression, some PCM patients can present a generalized cell-mediated immune depression and endogenous infection of latent microorganisms. On the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of an association between PCM and HSV infection.

Abstract
A case of herpes simplex virus (HSV) meningitis complicated by ascending paralysis with almost complete recovery following antiviral treatment is reported. We present this case to illustrate the importance of including HSV-induced neuropathy in the differential diagnosis of acute neurologic symptoms following the viral illness.

Abstract
We report an adult female patient who presented with sacral radiculopathy as incapacitating dysthesias following primary genital herpes simplex, which later recurred. Despite use of systemic antiviral treatment, the painful syndrome in our patient persisted. The success in treatment was seen only after the addition of amitriptyline hydrochloride. The case is being presented here for its rare manifestation and novel use of amitriptyline hydrochloride.

Abstract
We found the prevalence of recurrent lymphocytic meningitis associated with herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) was 2.2/100,000 population in Finland during 1996-2006, higher than previous estimates. PCR was most sensitive in detecting HSV-2 DNA from cerebrospinal fluid if the sample was taken 2-5 days after symptom onset.

Abstract
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) typically causes mucocutaneous disease, encephalitis, and acute men ingitis. There have been no previous reports of chronic meningitis due to this virus. A case of chronic meningitis due to herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) in a previously healthy 35-year-old woman whose predominant symptoms were headache and meningism without fever is described. Analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) revealed a lymphocytic pleocytosis, elevated protein, and hypoglycorrhachia. The diagnosis of herpes simplex meningitis was supported by the detection of HSV-2 DNA in CSF by polymerase chain reaction and by intrathecal production of HSV-specific antibody. The patient recovered after treatment with intravenous acyclovir and glucocorticoids.
