Abstract

N-Triphos derivatives
(NP3R, R = alkyl, aryl)
and asymmetric variants (NP2RXR′, R′ = alkyl, aryl, X = OH, NR2, NRR′) are
an underexplored class of tuneable, tripodal ligands in relation to
the coordination chemistry of Re and Tc for biomedical applications.
Mixed-ligand approaches are a flexible synthetic route to obtain Tc
complexes of differing core structures and physicochemical properties.
Reaction of the NP3Ph ligand with the Re(V)
oxo precursor [ReOCl3(PPh3)2] generated
the bidentate complex [ReOCl3(κ2-NP2PhOHAr)], which possesses an unusual
AA’BB’XX’ spin system with a characteristic second-order
NMR lineshape that is sensitive to the bi- or tridentate nature of
the coordinating diphosphine unit. The use of the asymmetric NP2PhOHAr ligand resulted in the formation
of both bidentate and tridentate products depending on the presence
of base. The tridentate Re(V) complex [ReOCl2(κ3-NP2PhOAr)] has provided
the basis of a new reactive “metal-fragment” for further
functionalization in [3 + 2] mixed-ligand complexes. The synthesis
of [3 + 2] complexes with catechol-based π-donors could also
be achieved under one-pot, single-step conditions from Re(V) oxo precursors.
Analogous complexes can also be synthesized from suitable 99Tc(V) precursors, and these complexes have been shown to exhibit
highly similar structural properties through spectroscopic and chromatographic
analysis. However, a tendency for the {MVO}3+ core to undergo hydrolysis to the {MVO2}+ core has been observed both in the case of M = Re and markedly
for M = 99Tc complexes. It is likely that controlling this
pathway will be critical to the generation of further stable Tc(V)
derivatives. An N-centered tripodal heterofunctionalized
phosphine ligand
was used to generate a reactive “metal-fragment” based
on the {MVO}3+ (M = Re, 99Tc) core
for the formation of mixed-ligand [3 + 2] complexes. Characteristic
lineshapes arising from an AA’BB’XX’ spin system
are diagnostic of bidentate vs tridentate coordination modes of the
ligand.

Abstract
The reactions of bis(borohydride) complexes [(RN=)Mo(BH4)2(PMe3)2] (4: R = 2,6-Me2C6H3; 5: R = 2,6-iPr2C6H3) with hydrosilanes afford new silyl hydride derivatives [(RN=)Mo(H)(SiR'3)(PMe3)3] (3: R = Ar, R'3 = H2Ph; 8: R = Ar', R'3 = H2Ph; 9: R = Ar, R'3 = (OEt)3; 10: R = Ar, R'3 = HMePh). These compounds can also be conveniently prepared by reacting [(RN=)Mo(H)(Cl)(PMe3)3] with one equivalent of LiBH4 in the presence of a silane. Complex 3 undergoes intramolecular and intermolecular phosphine exchange, as well as exchange between the silyl ligand and the free silane. Kinetic and DFT studies show that the intermolecular phosphine exchange occurs through the predissociation of a PMe3 group, which, surprisingly, is facilitated by the silane. The intramolecular exchange proceeds through a new non-Bailar-twist pathway. The silyl/silane exchange proceeds through an unusual Mo(VI) intermediate, [(ArN=)Mo(H)2(SiH2Ph)2(PMe3)2] (19). Complex 3 was found to be the catalyst of a variety of hydrosilylation reactions of carbonyl compounds (aldehydes and ketones) and nitriles, as well as of silane alcoholysis. Stoichiometric mechanistic studies of the hydrosilylation of acetone, supported by DFT calculations, suggest the operation of an unexpected mechanism, in that the silyl ligand of compound 3 plays an unusual role as a spectator ligand. The addition of acetone to compound 3 leads to the formation of [trans-(ArN)Mo(OiPr)(SiH2Ph)(PMe3)2] (18). This latter species does not undergo the elimination of a Si-O group (which corresponds to the conventional Ojima's mechanism of hydrosilylation). Rather, complex 18 undergoes unusual reversible β-CH activation of the isopropoxy ligand. In the hydrosilylation of benzaldehyde, the reaction proceeds through the formation of a new intermediate bis(benzaldehyde) adduct, [(ArN=)Mo(η(2)-PhC(O)H)2(PMe3)], which reacts further with hydrosilane through a η(1)-silane complex, as studied by DFT calculations.

Abstract
This work details an in-depth evaluation of an unprecedented mechanism for the hydrosilylation of carbonyl compounds catalyzed by (PPh3)2Re(O)2I. The proposed mechanism involves addition of a silane Si-H bond across one of the rhenium-oxo bonds to form siloxyrhenium hydride intermediate 2 that reacts with a carbonyl substrate to generate siloxyrhenium alkoxide 4, which, in turn, affords the silyl ether product. Compelling evidence for the operation of this pathway includes the following: (a) isolation and structural characterization by X-ray diffraction of siloxyrhenium hydride intermediate 2, (b) demonstration of the catalytic competence of intermediate 2 in the hydrosilylation reaction, (c) 1H and 31P{1H} NMR and ESI-MS evidence for single-turnover conversion of 2 into 1, (d) observation of intermediate 2 in the working catalyst system, and (e) kinetic analysis of the catalytic hydrosilylation of carbonyl compounds by 1.

Abstract
Compounds of the types ReOCl2(L)(PPh3) and ReOCl(L)2 were prepared by reacting ReOCl3(PPh3)2 with 8-hydroxyquinoline (HL) and its 2-methyl, 2-chloro, 5-chloro, 5-nitro, 5,7-dichloro, 5,7-dibromo, and 5,7-diiodo derivatives. With the bulky 2-phenyl-8-hydroxyquinoline, only ReOCl2(L)(PPh3) could be isolated, whereas the still bulkier 2-tert-butyl derivative did not react. For ReOCl2(L)(PPh3), the coordination of the quinoline oxygen trans to the Re=O bond and the cis-dichloro arrangement in the equatorial plane were established from crystallographic studies on the 2-chloro and the 5,7-dibromo complexes. From the combined data for these various derivatives, the 1H NMR signals could be fully assigned. With both series of compounds, a complex dd absorption pattern is observed in the visible spectra, corresponding to the excitation of a d electron from the interaxial d orbital in the equatorial plane to the empty dxz and dyz orbitals, which are inequivalent in these low-symmetry systems. Deconvolution revealed the presence of two very weak low-energy components (~10 000 and ~12 000 cm1), which are assigned to the two expected singlettriplet transitions, whereas two stronger bands at higher energy (~14 000 and ~17 000 cm1) originate from the two singletsinglet transitions. These bands are not substantially displaced by substitution on the 8-hydroxyquinoline rings.Key words: rhenium, quinoline, crystal structure, dd electron transitions.
