Abstract
A facile formal synthesis to aphanorphine and its analogue is described, featuring Rh-catalyzed cyclohydrocarbonylation of 2-aminodihydronaphthalene to the bridged benzazepine core. Subsequent introduction of the methyl group and functional group transformation complete the synthesis of aphanorphine and its analogue over eight steps.

Abstract
The catalytic asymmetric aminoallylation of chiral aldehydes is developed as a new method for the catalyst controlled synthesis of syn- and anti-1,3-aminoalcohols. This methodology is highlighted in the synthesis of the sedum alkaloids (+)-sedridine and (+)-allosedridine both of which have their final carbon incorporated during closure of the piperidine ring via a hydroformylation with formaldehyde.

Abstract
2,3-Substituted quinolines were readily prepared from diallylanilines in good yields under mild conditions by using Co2(CO)(8) as catalyst. Regioselectivity has been explored by examining a series of electron-donating and electron-withdrawing functional groups at ortho, meta, and para positions of the diallylanilines. The results show that both steric and electronic effects influence the isolated yields. Electron-withdrawing groups inhibit the reaction. Solvent effects, temperature effects, and catalyst loadings have also been investigated. Isotopic labeling experiments were devised to permit delineation of the mechanism of reaction.
