Abstract
In the current work, chloro(meso-tetrakis(phenyl)porphyrin) manganese(III) [Mn(TPP)Cl] was synthesized following two steps: the preparation of meso-tetraphenylporphyrin (H2TPP) and the insertion of manganese into the free porphyrin H2TPP. The compounds were characterized using SEM, FT-IR, UV, TGA/DTA, and XRD analyses. Manganese(III) meso-porphyrins exhibited hyper-type electronic spectra with a half-vacant metal orbital with symmetry, such as [dπ:dxz and dyz]. The thermal behavior of [Mn(TPP)(Cl)] changed (three-step degradation process) compared to the initial H2TPP (one-step degradation process), confirming the insertion of manganese into the core of the free porphyrin H2TPP. Furthermore, [Mn(TPP)Cl] was used to degrade calmagite (an azo dye) using H2O2 as an oxidant. The effects of dye concentration, reaction time, H2O2 dose, and temperature were investigated. The azo dye solution was completely degraded in the presence of [Mn(TPP)(Cl)]/H2O2 at pH = 6, temperature = 20 °C, C0 = 30 mg/L, and H2O2 = 40 mL/L. The computed low activation energy (Ea = 10.55 Kj/mol) demonstrated the efficiency of the proposed catalytic system for the azo dye degradation. Overall, based on the synthesis process and the excellent catalytic results, the prepared [Mn(TPP)Cl] could be used as an effective catalyst for the treatment of calmagite-contaminated effluents.

Abstract
Rhodium complexes of biphenylcorrole are reported, and the molecular structures of the complexes are unambiguously confirmed by single-crystal X-ray analysis. The adj-CCNN core of the dicarbacorrole efficiently stabilizes a rhodium metal ion in its two different oxidation states. It is pertinent to point out that the Rh(I) metal complex attains square-planar geometry while organo-Rh(III) forms an octahedral complex. Furthermore, density functional theory studies corroborate the experimental findings.

Abstract
A series of "N2O2-type" manganese dipyrrin-bisphenols (DPP), formulated as (Ar)DPPMn, where Ar = pentafluorophenyl (F5Ph), phenyl (Ph), or mesityl (Mes), were electrochemically and spectroscopically characterized in nonaqueous media with and without added anions in the form of tetrabutylammonium salts (TBAX where X = ClO4-, PF6-, BF4-, F-, Cl-, OH-, or CN-). Two major one-electron reductions are observed under most solution conditions, the first of which is assigned as a MnIII/II process and the second as electron addition to the π-ring system as confirmed by spectroelectrochemistry. Each MnIII complex also exhibits one or two one-electron oxidations, the exact number depending upon the positive potential limit of the electrochemical solvent. The two oxidations are separated by 580-590 mV in CH3CN containing 0.1 M TBAPF6 and are assigned as π-ring-centered electron transfers to stepwise form a (Ar)DPPMnIII π-cation radical and dication under these solution conditions. Comparisons are made between redox properties of (Ar)DPPMn and manganese(III) porphyrins, corroles, and corrolazines each of which contains an innocent trianionic complexing ligand. The redox behavior and spectroscopic properties of [(Ar)DPPMn]n where n = 0, -1, or +1 are also compared to that of other structurally related [(Ar)DPPM]n complexes under similar solution conditions where M = CoII, CuII, BIII, or AuIII.

Abstract
Manganese corroles with the Mn atom in the oxidation states +III and +IV have been probed as donor moieties for supramolecular stacked donor–acceptor complexes with the typical acceptor units TCNQ (tetracyanoquinone), TCNP (tetracyanopyrazine), and TCNB (tetracyanobenzene). Four new compounds formed as single crystals from different co-crystallization attempts. In those cases where a Mn(III) corrole was used as the donor component, hydrolyzed and/or oxygenated compounds [(cor)Mn(TCNQ*)] and [(cor*)Mn(TCNP*)] were obtained as the exclusive products. With chloridomanganese(IV) corroles, sandwich-like 2:1 complexes [(cor)MnCl][Formula: see text][TCNQ] and [(cor)MnCl][Formula: see text][TCNB] form, with both components left intact. Crystallographic analyses reveal partial or complete charge transfer to unusual axial ligands and thus prove the high reactivity of Mn(III) corroles in the first two cases. For the sandwich arrangements, almost-unaltered geometric parameters of the Mn(IV) corroles are observed, pointing to negligible structural consequences for metal corroles when engaged in stacking interactions.

Abstract
High-valent metal-hydroxide species are invoked as critical intermediates in both catalytic, metal-mediated O2 activation (e.g., by Fe porphyrin in Cytochrome P450) and O2 production (e.g., by the Mn cluster in Photosystem II). However, well-characterized mononuclear MIV(OH) complexes remain a rarity. Herein we describe the synthesis of MnIV(OH)(ttppc) (3) (ttppc = tris(2,4,6-triphenylphenyl) corrole), which has been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The large steric encumbrance of the ttppc ligand allowed for isolation of 3. The complexes MnV(O)(ttppc) (4) and MnIII(H2O)(ttppc) (1·H2O) were also synthesized and structurally characterized, providing a series of Mn complexes related only by the transfer of hydrogen atoms. Both 3 and 4 abstract an H atom from the O-H bond of 2,4-di- tert-butylphenol (2,4-DTBP) to give a radical coupling product in good yield (3 = 90(2)%, 4 = 91(5)%). Complex 3 reacts with 2,4-DTBP with a rate constant of k2 = 2.73(12) × 104 M-1 s-1, which is ∼3 orders of magnitude larger than 4 ( k2 = 17.4(1) M-1 s-1). Reaction of 3 with a series of para-substituted 2,6-di- tert-butylphenol derivatives (4-X-2,6-DTBP; X = OMe, Me, tBu, H) gives rate constants in the range k2 = 510(10)-36(1.4) M-1 s-1 and led to Hammett and Marcus plot correlations. Together with kinetic isotope effect measurements, it is concluded that O-H cleavage occurs by a concerted H atom transfer (HAT) mechanism and that the MnIV(OH) complex is a much more powerful H atom abstractor than the higher-valent MnV(O) complex, or even some FeIV(O) complexes.

Abstract
One-electron oxidation of a GaIII -corrole with N(4-BrC6 H4 )3 SbCl6 resulted in an air-stable non-innocent GaIII -corrole radical. The single-crystal X-ray crystallography of the 2,17-bis-formyl-5,10,15-tris(pentafluorophenyl)corrolato gallium(III)(chloride) radical ([3-Cl]. ) revealed delocalization of the unpaired electron, which was further confirmed by electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy and spin density distribution plot. In addition, the nucleus-independent chemical shift (NICS), anisotropy-induced current density (AICD) and harmonic oscillator model of aromaticity (HOMA) supported a [17] π-electron-conjugated (or antiaromatic) radical.

Abstract
Presented herein is a comprehensive account of the electronic structure of corrole derivatives. Our knowledge in this area derives from a broad range of methods, including UV-vis-NIR absorption and MCD spectroscopies, single-crystal X-ray structure determination, vibrational spectroscopy, NMR and EPR spectroscopies, electrochemistry, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and quantum chemical calculations, the latter including both density functional theory and ab initio multiconfigurational methods. The review is organized according to the Periodic Table, describing free-base and main-group element corrole derivatives, then transition-metal corroles, and finally f-block element corroles. Like porphyrins, corrole derivatives with a redox-inactive coordinated atom follow the Gouterman four-orbital model. A key difference from porphyrins is the much wider prevalence of noninnocent electronic structures as well as full-fledged corrole•2- radicals among corrole derivatives. The most common orbital pathways mediating ligand noninnocence in transition-metal corroles are the metal(dz2)-corrole("a2u") interaction (most commonly observed in Mn and Fe corroles) and the metal(dx2-y2)-corrole(a2u) interaction in coinage metal corroles. Less commonly encountered is the metal(dπ)-corrole("a1u") interaction, a unique feature of formal d5 metallocorroles. Corrole derivatives exhibit a rich array of optical properties, including substituent-sensitive Soret maxima indicative of ligand noninnocence, strong fluorescence in the case of lighter main-group element complexes, and room-temperature near-IR phosphorescence in the case of several 5d metal complexes. The review concludes with an attempt at identifying gaps in our current knowledge and potential future directions of electronic-structural research on corrole derivatives.

Abstract
Seven A3- and trans-A2B manganese(III) corroles (1–7-Mn) differing widely in their electronic and steric features were synthesized and transformed to their corresponding [Formula: see text]-brominated manganese(III) corroles derivatives (1a–7a-Mn). Their corresponding (oxo)manganese(V) corroles 1–7-Mn(oxo) and 1a–7a-Mn(oxo) were further prepapred by treating with iodosylbenzene (PhIO). The reactivity for the oxygen atom transfer from 1–7-Mn(oxo) to styrene followed the order of 1-Mn(oxo) > 2-Mn(oxo) > 7-Mn(oxo) > 4-Mn(oxo) > 3-Mn(oxo) > 6-Mn(oxo) [Formula: see text]5-Mn(oxo). The same pattern was observed for their [Formula: see text]-brominated analogs 1a–7a-Mn(oxo), albeit their reactivity was remarkably higher. The steric protection of [Formula: see text] moiety by ortho–ortho′-dibromophenyl substituents was found to enhance the stability of (oxo)manganese(V) corroles significantly.

Abstract
Two series of substituted manganese triarylcorroles were synthesized and characterized as to their electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical properties in CH 2 Cl 2, CH 3 CN and pyridine. The investigated compounds are represented as ( YPh )3 CorMn III and ( YPh )3 CorMn IV Cl , where Cor is a trianion of the corrole and Y is a Cl , F , H or CH 3 para-substituent on the three phenyl rings of the macrocycle. Each neutral Mn(III) corrole exists as a four-coordinate complex in CH 2 Cl 2 and CH 3 CN and as a five-coordinate species in pyridine. ( YPh )3 CorMn III undergoes two oxidations to stepwise generate a Mn(IV) corrole and a Mn(IV) π-cation radical. It also undergoes one reduction to generate a Mn(II) corrole in CH 2 Cl 2 or CH 3 CN . In contrast, the reduction of ( YPh )3 CorMn III leads to a Mn(III) corrole π-anion radical in pyridine. One oxidation is observed for ( YPh )3 CorMn IV Cl in CH 2 Cl 2 and CH 3 CN to generate a Mn(IV) corrole π-cation radical while Mn(III) and Mn(II) corroles are stepwise formed after reduction of the same compound. The second reduction of ( YPh )3 CorMn IV Cl in pyridine gives a Mn(III) π-anion radical as opposed to a Mn(II) corrole with an unreduced π-ring system. The neutral, reduced and oxidized forms of each corrole were characterized by electrochemistry and UV-visible spectroelectrochemistry and comparisons are made between the UV-visible spectra and redox potentials of the compounds in different central metal oxidation states. An overall reduction/oxidation mechanism in the three solvents is proposed.

Abstract
Alkynyl corroles were synthesized from iodidphenyl corrole precursor by using Sonogashira coupling reaction with or without the presence of copper(I) iodide co-catalyst. The alkynyl group on corrole macrocycle has a significant effect on the photophysical and electrochemical properties of free-base and metal corrole derivatives.

Abstract
A series of manganese(III) corroles were investigated as to their electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry in nonaqueous solvents. Up to three oxidations and one reduction were obtained for each complex depending on the solvents. The main compound discussed in this paper is the meso-substituted manganese corrole, (Mes 2PhCor)Mn, and the main points are how changes in axially coordinated anion and solvent will affect the redox potentials and UV-vis spectra of each electrogenerated species in oxidation states of Mn(III), Mn(IV), or Mn(II). The anions OAc (-), Cl (-), CN (-), and SCN (-) were found to form five-coordinate complexes with the neutral Mn(III) corrole while two OH (-) or F (-) anions were shown to bind axially in a stepwise addition to give the five- and six-coordinate complexes in nonaqueous media. In each case, complexation with one or two anionic axial ligands led to an easier oxidation and a harder reduction as compared to the uncomplexed four-coordinate species.

Abstract
This work reports the synthesis and full characterization of 5,10,15-tris-pentafluorophenylcorrolato-iridium(III) bis-trimethylamine 1 and its octabromo derivative 2. The corrole is planar in both cases (the mean deviation from the plane is as low as 0.0371 A for 1 and 0.0325 A for 2), the UV-vis spectra display a split Soret band with a shoulder attributable to an MLCT transition, and cyclic voltammetry reveals that the iridium(II) oxidation state cannot be accessed, while the oxidation to formal iridium(IV) complexes is achieved at much lower potentials than in other coordination environments.
