Study of refuge use on a predator–prey system with a competitor for the prey

In this paper, we propose a predator–prey system with a competitor for the prey. The model incorporates a constant prey refuge and predation process follows Holling type II response function. Using the Routh–Hurwitz criterion, the sufficient conditions of locally asymptotically stable of all the equilibria are obtained. Furthermore, global stability of the positive equilibrium is investigated by constructing a suitable Lyapunov function. The occurrence of Hopf-bifurcation of the system is shown at a critical value “[Formula: see text]” and the system can be stabilized by increasing amount of prey refuge. The result includes the sufficient conditions for uniform persistence. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the obtained results and the dependence of the dynamic behavior on the prey refuge.

Dynamics of a non-autonomous density-dependent predator–prey model with Beddington–DeAngelis type

The goal of this paper is to investigate the dynamics of a non-autonomous density-dependent predator–prey system with Beddington–DeAngelis functional response, where not only the prey density dependence but also the predator density dependence are considered, such that the studied predator–prey system conforms to the realistically biological environment. We firstly introduce a sufficient condition for the permanence of the system and then use a specific set to obtain a weaker sufficient condition. Afterward, we provide corresponding conditions for the extinction of the system and the existence of boundary periodical solutions, respectively. Further, we get a sufficient condition for global attractiveness of the boundary periodic solution by constructing a Lyapunov function, arriving at the uniqueness of boundary periodic solutions since the uniqueness of boundary periodic solutions can be ensured by global attractiveness. Finally, based on the existence of positive periodic solutions, which can be ensured by the Brouwer fixed-point theorem, we provide a sufficient condition for the uniqueness of positive periodic solutions.

EFFECT OF HARVESTING AND PREY REFUGE IN A PREY–PREDATOR SYSTEM

Considering that the ecological system is often deeply perturbed by human exploiting activities, this paper deals with a prey–predator model with prey refuge in which both species are independently harvested. First, some sufficient conditions for global stability of equilibria are obtained, and the existence and uniqueness of limit cycles are established. Our results indicate that over-exploitation would result in the extinction of the population and an appropriate harvesting strategy should ensure the sustainability of the population, which is in line with reality. Furthermore, the existence of bionomic equilibrium is discussed. Finally, the influences of prey refuge and harvesting efforts on equilibrium density values are considered and some numerical simulations are given to illustrate our results.

Combined harvesting of a stage structured prey-predator model incorporating cannibalism in competitive environment

In this paper, we propose a prey-predator system with stage structure for predator. The proposed system incorporates cannibalism for predator populations in a competitive environment. The combined fishing effort is considered as control used to harvest the populations. The steady states of the system are determined and the dynamical behavior of the system is discussed. Local stability of the system is analyzed and sufficient conditions are derived for the global stability of the system at the positive equilibrium point. The existence of the Hopf bifurcation phenomenon is examined at the positive equilibrium point of the proposed system. We consider harvesting effort as a control parameter and subsequently, characterize the optimal control parameter in order to formulate the optimal control problem under the dynamic framework towards optimal utilization of the resource. Moreover, the optimal system is solved numerically to investigate the sustainability of the ecosystem using an iterative method with a Runge-Kutta fourth-order scheme. Simulation results show that the optimal control scheme can achieve sustainable ecosystem. Results are analyzed with the help of graphical illustrations.
