Abstract
This paper describes the author's recent work on the preparation and properties of thermally stable ionic liquids (ILs) containing siloxane frameworks. Quaternary ammonium and imidazolium salt-type ILs containing random oligosilsesquioxane frameworks were successfully prepared via the hydrolytic condensation of the corresponding organotrialkoxysilanes by using an aqueous superacid bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (HNTf2 ) solution as a catalyst and solvent. Imidazolium salt-type ILs containing polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) frameworks were also prepared through a reaction similar to that described above by using a water/methanol mixed solution of HNTf2 . In addition, amorphous POSSs with two types of ionic groups randomly distributed in the side chain were prepared. These POSSs were ILs exhibiting fluidity at relatively low temperatures. Furthermore, imidazolium and ammonium salt-type ILs containing cyclic oligosiloxane frameworks were prepared through a reaction similar to that of the corresponding organodialkoxysilanes. The thermal decomposition temperatures of the above ILs containing siloxane frameworks were higher than those of general ILs.

Abstract
In this study, we prepared a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-linking polyamide (POSS polyamide) by a polycondensation of ammonium-functionalized POSS (POSS-A) and carboxyl-functionalized POSS (POSS-C) in dehydrated dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) using 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) as condensing agents. The obtained POSS polyamide was soluble in various highly polar solvents, and it could form a self-standing film. FT-IR, 1H NMR, and 29Si NMR analyses showed that POSS polyamide is a polymer in which POSS-A and POSS-C are linked almost linearly by amide bonds. Furthermore, the cast film obtained by heat-treating the polymer at 150 °C for 30 min exhibited excellent transparency and hard-coating (pencil scratch test: 5H) and antifogging properties (evaluation by water vapor exposure).

Abstract
AbstractAs a preparation method for organic–inorganic or mesoporous inorganic materials via sol–gel condensation of a metal alkoxide, the combination of lyotropic liquid crystals (LLCs) and sol–gel chemistry is a versatile tool to fabricate various nanostructures. Despite previous investigations into such systems, no attempt has been made to utilize the dynamic switching functions of such nanostructures via the phase transition of LLCs in films. A polysiloxane containing an amine-hydrochloride group and a vinyl group was recently synthesized. By controlling the relative humidity, we achieved the phase transition of LLCs and on-demand UV-curing of LLC phases in the polysiloxane film. We further developed vertically oriented organic–inorganic nanochannels by using π−π interactions between discotic molecules and the substrate surface or the spontaneous vertical alignment of LLC containing azobenzene units.

Abstract
Any transition toward an era of flexible electronics will have to overcome the mechanical limitations of materials. Specifically, the attainment of both strength and flexibility, which are generally mutually exclusive, is required including glass-like wear resistance, plastic-like compliance, and a high level of strain. Here, we fabricate a urethane-methacrylate-siloxane hybrid (UMSH) material. It is found that UMSH, with molecule-level hybridization of urethane linkage and methacrylate-siloxane conetworks, demonstrates ceramic-like high strength (574 MPa), yet polymer-like low modulus (8.42 GPa), and even high strain (6.3%) at fracture with excellent optical transparency. This combination of high strength, flexibility, and optical transparency indicates that this is a suitable material for glass substitution and can be used as a transparent flexible cover window for foldable display.

Abstract
A high performance ladder-like structured methacrylate siloxane hybrid material (LMSH) was fabricated via simple hydrolytic sol⁻gel reaction, followed by free-radical polymerization. A structurally ordered siloxane backbone, the ladder-like structure, which is an essential factor for high performance, could be achieved by a short period of sol⁻gel reaction in only 4 h. This results in superior optical (Transmittance > 90% at 550 nm), thermal (T5 wt % decomposition > 400 ℃ ), mechanical properties(elastic recovery = 0.86, hardness = 0.6 GPa) compared to the random- and even commercialized cage-structured silsesquioxane, which also has ordered structure. It was investigated that the fabricated ladder-like structured MSH showed the highest overall density of organic/inorganic co-networks that are originated from highly ordered siloxane network, along with high conversion rate of polymerizable methacrylate groups. Our findings suggest a potential of the ladder-like structured MSH as a powerful alternative for the methacrylate polysilsesquioxane, which can be applied to thermally stable and flexible optical coatings, even with an easier and simpler preparation process.

Abstract
The self-assembly of amino-undecyl-triethoxysilane (AUT) as micelles in water is considered. The behavior of acid/AUT systems is governed by a complete proton transfer from the acid to the amine, leading to the formation of an ammonium headgroup. This moiety is responsible for the bending of the interface between the organic core of the micelles and the surrounding water. By playing with the size of the acid used as curvature agent, the amphiphilic behavior of the organosilane molecule may be adjusted. We follow the aggregation as the curvature agent size increases. This approach constitutes an efficient and original method in order to tune the nanostructure of highly functionalized silica at the early stage of the elaboration. Small-angle X-ray scattering, wet scanning transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, and complementary characterization techniques indicate that hybrid organic-inorganic planar objects and vesicles are obtained for smaller curvature agents. Increasing the size of the curvature agent results in a transition of the aggregation geometry from vesicles to cylindrical direct micelles, finally leading to nanofibers organized in a 2D hexagonal network resembling a "reverse MCM-41 structure". A geometrical molecular self-assembly model is finally proposed, considering the dimensions of the surfactant tail and those of the head groups.
