Abstract
Background Body constitution is the foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and model workers consist of a special group of workers within China. This study aims to research the relationship between the physical body constitutions based on TCM and the mental health of model workers. Methods We recruited 314 model workers from Beijing Rehabilitation Hospital to conduct the questionnaires such as SCL-90 and CCMQ to investigate if there is an association between mental health status and TCM body constitutions. We performed a Partial Least Squares Path Modeling (PLS path modeling). Results Our path model results revealed associations between different TCM constitution types and SCL scores, which serve as indicators of psychological well-being. Our research findings demonstrate a strong correlation between the Balanced constitution and elevated levels of psychological well-being, with a path coefficient of -0.503. In contrast, the other eight constitutional types exhibit path coefficients exceeding 0.3, indicating a tendency toward lower levels of psychological well-being. We also investigated the intricate connections between various TCM constitutional types and both mild and severe psychological well-being. Conclusion In conclusion, the Balanced constitution continues to be closely associated with higher levels of psychological well-being, while the remaining eight body constitution types are consistently linked to lower levels of psychological well-being.

Abstract
Dyslipidemia is a multifactorial disorder that is a causative factor and risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The incidence of dyslipidemia is expected to increase because of the presence of comorbidities. Although several lipid-lowering drugs have been developed and approved, they are not completely effective and are associated with side effects. Traditional herbal medicine (THM) represents an alternative and complementary approach for managing dyslipidemia because of its low toxicity and beneficial effects, such as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. This review focuses on our current understanding of the antidyslipidemic effect of THMs and discusses the associated regulatory mechanisms. The current findings indicate that THM may lead to the development of novel therapeutic regimens for dyslipidemia.

Abstract
Objective We determined the distribution of constitutional types of high-normal blood pressure in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and provided evidence for the prevention of high-normal blood pressure and hypertension. Methods Eight digital databases were searched from January 2011 to November 2022, including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, EBSCOhost, CNKI, CBM, Wangfang, and CQVIP. We performed a meta-analysis with the random-effects model or fixed-effects model to describe the distribution of constitutional types of high-normal blood pressure in TCM. The studies were assessed based on heterogeneity testing and the potential for publication bias. The meta-analysis was performed on Stata software 15.0. Results A total of 17 studies with 8118 participants were included in this meta-analysis. The proportion of the biased constitution (82.3%; 95% CI: 75.6%-89.1%, p < 0.001) was higher than the balanced constitution (17.3%; 95% CI: 10.7-23.8%, p < 0.001). Phlegm-dampness constitution, Yin-deficiency constitution, and damp-heat constitution accounted for 16.0% (95%CI: 10.5-21.5%, p < 0.001), 14.8% (95% CI: 11.0-18.6%, p < 0.001), 11.3% (95% CI: 8.0-14.5%, p < 0.001) of the total high-normal blood pressure cases, respectively. The subgroup analyses performed that region, age and gender were positively associated with the distribution of constitution types of high-normal blood pressure in TCM. Compared with the general population, the risk of high-normal blood pressure in people with the phlegm-dampness constitution, Yin-deficiency constitution, and blood-stasis constitution was 2.665 (95%CI: 2.286-3.106, p < 0.001), 2.378 (95%CI: 1.197-4.724, p = 0.013), 1.965 (95%CI: 1.634-2.363, p < 0.001) times of the general population, respectively. Meanwhile, the risk of high-normal blood pressure was lower in people with a balanced constitution (0.248, 95%CI: 0.165-0.372, p < 0.001). Conclusions Phlegm-dampness constitution, Yin-deficiency constitution, and damp-heat constitution were the common constitution types of high-normal blood pressure. There might also be differences in the distribution characteristics of TCM constitution among people with high-normal blood pressure in different regions, ages, and genders. Finally, a balanced constitution might be a protective factor for hypertensive people.

Abstract
Objective. This study aimed to determine the active ingredients of Huanglian Jiedu decoction (HLJDD) and the targets for treating dyslipidemia through network pharmacology to facilitate further application of HJJDD in the treatment of dyslipidemia. Methods. Potential drug targets for dyslipidemia were identified with a protein-protein interaction network. Gene ontology (GO) enrichment analysis and KEGG pathway analysis were performed to elucidate the biological function and major pathways involved in the HLJDD-mediated treatment of dyslipidemia. Results. This approach revealed 22 components, 234 targets of HLJDD, and 221 targets of dyslipidemia. There were 14 components and 31 common targets between HLJDD and dyslipidemia treatment. GO enrichment analysis showed that these targets were mainly associated with the response to DNA-binding transcription factor activity, lipid localization and storage, reactive oxygen species metabolic process, and inflammatory response. The results of KEGG analysis indicated that the AGE-RAGE, NF-κB, HIF-1, IL-17, TNF, FoxO, and PPAR signalling pathways were enriched in the antidyslipidemic action of HLJDD. Conclusion. This study expounded the pharmacological actions and molecular mechanisms of HLJDD in treating dyslipidemia from a holistic perspective, which may provide a scientific basis for the clinical application of HLJDD.

Abstract
Accumulating knowledge has been achieved on DNA methylation participating in numerous cellular processes and multiple human diseases; however, few studies have addressed the pleiotropic role of DNA methylation in Chinese herbal medicine (CHM). CHM has been used worldwide for the prevention and treatment of multiple diseases. Newly developed epigenetic techniques have brought great opportunities for the development of CHM. In this review, we summarize the DNA methylation studies and portray the pleiotropic role of DNA methylation in CHM. DNA methylation serves as a mediator participating in plant responses to environmental factors, and thus affecting CHM medicinal plants growth and bioactive compound biosynthesis which are vital for therapeutic effects. Furthermore, DNA methylation helps to uncover the pharmaceutical mechanisms of CHM formulae, herbs, and herbal-derived compounds. It also provides scientific validation for constitution theory and other essential issues of CHM. This newly developed field of DNA methylation is up-and-coming to address many complicated scientific questions of CHM; it thus not only promotes disease treatment but also facilitates health maintenance.

A Meta-Analysis of the Association between Diabetes Mellitus and Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitution. EVIDENCE-BASED COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE 2021; 2021:6390530. Abstract
Objective To explore the distribution of constitution types of diabetes mellitus (DM) in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and to provide evidence-based medicine basis for the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Methods PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and three Chinese databases were searched to include research literature on the relationship between diabetes and TCM constitution. The single rate study of cross-sectional literature was conducted with RStudio software, and the control meta-analysis of the diabetic and nondiabetic population was performed with Review Manager 5.3 software. Two independent reviewers assessed the methodological quality of the studies' data. The main outcomes included the distribution of constitutional types in the diabetic population and the odds ratio (OR) between the two. Effect sizes are expressed as proportions or ORs with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results A total of 28,781 diabetic cases were included in 87 articles. Yin-deficiency, phlegm-dampness, and qi-deficiency accounted for 18% (95% CI (15%, 20%), P < 0.01), 17% (95% CI (15%, 19%), P < 0.01), and 13% (95% CI (11%, 15%), P < 0.01) of the total diabetic cases. The risk of diabetes in people with yin-deficiency and phlegm-dampness was 3.06 (95% CI (1.38-6.78), P=0.006) and 1.89 (95%CI (1.05-3.42), P=0.03) times higher than that in those with other constitutions, respectively. The distribution of TCM constitution of DM patients varied significantly in different regions and ages. Conclusion Yin-deficiency and phlegm-dampness are the common constitution types of diabetic people, and they may also be the risk factors of diabetes. Balanced constitution may be a protective factor of diabetes. More high-quality cohort and case-control studies need to be designed to provide more valuable evidence-based basis for assessing the correlation between DM and TCM constitution.

Abstract
Depression is commonly observed in university students, who are a high risk group for developing psychiatric disorders during adulthood. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of depression and its traditional Chinese medicine body constitutions and psychological determinants among university students in Malaysia. A cross-sectional pilot study was conducted between 9 and 28 September 2020 among 80 university students in Malaysia. Participants completed online survey questionnaires, including the validated Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Constitution in Chinese Medicine Questionnaire (CMCQ), Dysfunctional Attitude Scale (DAS), Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21) stress subscale, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), which assess depression, body constitution, dysfunctional attitude, stress, perceived stress, and self-esteem. Multiple linear regression analyses were performed to determine the associated risk factors for depression. The overall prevalence of depression among university students was 33.8%. The multiple regression analysis showed a significant relationship between depression and qi-stagnation constitution (B = 0.089, p = 0.011), balanced constitution (B = -0.077, p = 0.049), and self-esteem (B = -0.325, p = 0.001). Our findings suggest that some traditional Chinese medicine body constitutions and self-esteem are significant risk factors affecting depression among university students. Identifying risk factors of depression is vital to aid in the early detection of depression among university students.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The incidence of Alzheimer's disease is on the rise, early detection of cognitive impairment of the elderly is very important. In traditional Chinese medicine, constitution is related to the susceptibility of the human body to diseases. Based on the theory of constitution of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the human population can be classified into 9 constitutions. However, little is known about the characteristics of medical constitution and related biomarkers in subjects with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). METHODS We measured the TCM Constitution of 214 subjects by using the Constitution in Chinese Medicine Questionnaire (CCMQ). MMSE and MoCA were used to assess cognitive function. The subjects were divided into mild cognitive impairment group (MCI, n = 152) and normal control group (NC, n = 62). The levels of serum Hcy and serum/urine 8-iso-PGF 2α were determined. RESULTS 1) It was found that there was a significant difference in constitution types between MCI and NC. There were significant differences in MMSE and MoCA score, serum Hcy and serum/urine 8-iso-PGF 2a levels between the two groups. 2) In logistic regression analysis, the variables with statistical significance were TCM Constitution of Yang-Deficient, Phlegm-Dampness, Blood-Stasis and abnormal increase of Hcy (OR>1). 3) The MoCA scores had a positive correlation with the MMSE. A statistically significant inverse association was found between serum Hcy, blood and urine 8-iso-PGF 2a and scores of cognitive assessment in MCI. CONCLUSION Constitution types (Yang-Deficient, Phlegm-Dampness and Blood-Stasis) and abnormal serum Hcy elevation can be used as risk factors for MCI. MoCA scores can serve to detect MCI at early stage. Serum/urine 8-iso-PGF 2α has a certain relationship with MCI. Higher levels of serum/urine 8-iso-PGF 2α are more likely to be associated with MCI risk.

Abstract
This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to summarize and conclude the clinical evidence regarding the use of cinnamon among patients with metabolic diseases. A comprehensive literature search without any limitation on language was conducted using the following bibliographical databases: ISI Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar. Search was conducted up to 23 January 2020. A total of 35 clinical trials were included for final analysis. Pooling of results showed a significant reducing effect of cinnamon on total cholesterol (TC) (weighted mean difference (WMD) = -11.67 mg/dL; P = 0.010), triglyceride (TG) (WMD = -16.27 mg/dL; P < 0.001), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) (WMD = -6.36 mg/dL; P < 0.001), serum glucose (WMD = -11.39 mg/dL; P < 0.001), serum insulin (WMD = -1.27 μIU/mL; P = 0.028), and waist circumstance (WC) (WMD = -1.68 cm; P = 0.016). These lowering effects on TG, TC, LDL-C, and serum glucose levels were robust in studies that used cinnamon supplementation dose ≤1.5 g. Also, our findings of the present meta-analysis showed that cinnamon supplementation could have favorable effects on high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C, WMD = 1.35; P = 0.038) as well as systolic (WMD = -3.95 mmHg; P = 0.018) and diastolic (WMD = -3.36; P = 0.001) blood pressure among patients with metabolic diseases. The present meta-analysis suggests that cinnamon might exert beneficial effects on various cardiometabolic risk factors among patients with metabolic diseases.

Abstract
Objective We aim to investigate the effects of different exercise intensities and volumes on Phlegm-dampness constitution (PDC). Methods The rats were fed with high-fat food and lived in 75%–85% humidity for 6 weeks to establish the model of PDC. Then PDC rats were screened and intervened by varying exercise intensities for 8 weeks. Weight, constitution scores, blood and liver tissues were collected to detect the concentration of serum total cholesterol (Tch), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), homocysteine (Hcy), blood glucose (GLU), alanine transaminase (ALT) and percentage of lipid droplet area in liver tissue (PLDA). Results The weight, Tch, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C, Hcy, GLU, and ALT of rats in moderate-intensity exercise group returned to normal. The rats with high-intensity or low-intensity exercise did not recover as well as moderate-intensity. Conclusion Different exercise intensities and volumes have different effects on PDC, moderate-intensity exercise over an 8-week intervention is most appropriate.

Abstract
BACKGROUND and purpose: Depression is a common mental disorder and reduces quality of life. As traditional Chinese medicine constitution (TCMC) has become an increasingly popular complementary and alternative approach for early detection and treatment of disease, this study investigated the relationship of female-related factors and constitution with depression. MATERIALS AND METHODS This cross-sectional study included 1423 women from the Taiwan Biobank. A questionnaire of 44 items was used covering a variety of factors and the Body Constitution Questionnaire. The constitution types were divided into Yang-deficiency, Yin-deficiency, and Phlegm stasis. RESULTS Yang (p = 0.022) or Yin (p = 0.017) deficiencies, being single (p = 0.027-0.033), previous use of women's health supplements (p = 0.005-0.008), and smoking (p = 0.033-0.036) were associated with a higher risk of depression. CONCLUSION Integration of TCMC with Western medicine may be an alternative option towards depression prevention and alleviation.
