Abstract
Hematologic malignancies (HMs), also referred to as hematological or blood cancers, pose significant threats to patients as they impact the blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic system. Despite significant clinical strategies using chemotherapy, radiotherapy, stem cell transplantation, targeted molecular therapy, or immunotherapy, the five-year overall survival of patients with HMs is still low. Fortunately, recent studies demonstrate that the nanodrug delivery system holds the potential to address these challenges and foster effective anti-HMs with precise treatment. In particular, cell membrane camouflaged nanodrug offers enhanced drug targeting, reduced toxicity and side effects, and/or improved immune response to HMs. This review firstly introduces the merits and demerits of clinical strategies in HMs treatment, and then summarizes the types, advantages, and disadvantages of current nanocarriers helping drug delivery in HMs treatment. Furthermore, the types, functions, and mechanisms of cell membrane fragments that help nanodrugs specifically targeted to and accumulate in HM lesions are introduced in detail. Finally, suggestions are given about their clinical translation and future designs on the surface of nanodrugs with multiple functions to improve therapeutic efficiency for cancers.

Abstract
Immunitary bioeconomy encompasses a significant share of the bioeconomy that is accompanied by a high degree of complexity and various religious and ethical controversies for both customers and the service providers. Compared to blood banking, these complexities are more substantial for the new state-of-the-art technology of umbilical cord blood (UCB) banking, in which the viable therapeutically active substance of cord blood (i.e., cord blood stem cells (CBSCs)) is banked for much less likely future demand. It became even more complicated when we knew that the main three types of cord blood banking industry (i.e., private, public, or hybrid models) are not the same regarding economic, ethical, and even social considerations. The present paper aims to review and discuss the main drivers of behavioral intention among the customers of private UCB banking. We focused on private UCB banking because, although there is a low likelihood of childs' future need for their siblings' CBSCs, there is an unnecessary growing demand for using private UCB banking services. Based on the previously published pieces of research, we discussed five main influential factors (i.e., awareness, reference group, usability, disease history, and price) that can affect the customers' risk perception (and further their behavioral intention) to preserve their child UCB for private applications. Finally, we concluded that private UCB banking must not be considered a commercial activity, and ethically healthcare managers must be more actively involved in facilitating the proper flow of information among the customers.

Abstract
Previous studies illustrated associations between presence of activating killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) genes and lower susceptibility to hematologic malignancies in humans. In addition, favorable hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) outcomes were reported in patients, who received transplants from donors with KIR genotypes dominant for activating KIR receptors. However, the association of activating KIR genes on an allelic level with disease and their impact on HSCT outcome has been only scarcely investigated. To this end, we genotyped a large transplantation cohort for KIR two Ig domains and short cytoplasmic tail 4 (KIR2DS4) polymorphisms and investigated their association with disease. We next investigated the impact of KIR-AA genotype donor KIR2DS4 polymorphisms (AA/KIR2DS4 versus (vs.) AA/KIR1D), on clinical outcome of HSCT in patient subgroups (myeloid vs. lymphoid). Among 2810 transplant pairs, 68.8% (n=1934) were 10/10 human leukocyte antigen (HLA) matched and 31.2% (n=876) were 9/10 HLA-matched. The distribution of KIR one Ig domain (KIR1D) in patients vs. donors was equal (P value = 0.205). Multivariate analysis in 10/10 HLA-matched patients with lymphoid disease showed improved HSCT outcome (overall survival (OS): hazard ratio (HR) 0.62, P=0.002; disease free survival (DFS): HR 0.70, P=0.011; graft-versus-host disease free and relapse-free survival (GRFS): HR 0.67, P=0.002; non-relapse mortality (NRM): HR 0.55, P<0.001) when they received grafts from AA/KIR1D donors. This effect was not seen in either 9/10 HLA-matched patients with lymphoid disease or patients with myeloid disease. Our study indicates that the presence of KIR1D alleles is not associated with disease in patients and interestingly, using grafts from AA/KIR1D donors translated into a beneficial survival outcome in 10/10 HLA-matched patients with lymphoid disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS As a curative procedure, hematopoietic stemcell transplantation (HSCT) is an approved treatment for many malignant orbenign hematologic and non-hematologic diseases. There are different outcomes of HSCT, as well as several parameters influencing these outcomes. METHODS We had searched scientific sources like Web ofScience and PubMed with a combination of keywords such as HSCT, engraftment,survival, outcomes, etc. Totally, 80 articles were included. RESULTS Here we have reviewed the effective factors onmain outcomes of HSCT including engraftment, survival, graft versus hostdisease, and Mobilization. Also, the prediction of hematological reconstitutionand some novel suggestions leading to better outcomes are reviewed. CONCLUSION The study will be applicable for improvedmanagement of autologous and allogeneic HSCT process to increase the procedureefficiency.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) is a life-saving procedure for multiple types of hematological cancer, autoimmune diseases, and genetic-linked metabolic diseases in humans. Recipients of HSCT transplant are at high risk of microbial infections that significantly correlate with the presence of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and the degree of immunosuppression. Infection in HSCT patients is a leading cause of life-threatening complications and mortality. AREAS COVERED This review covers issues pertinent to infection in the HSCT patient, including bacterial and viral infection; strategies to reduce GVHD; infection patterns; resistance and treatment options; adverse drug reactions to antimicrobials, problems of antimicrobial resistance; perturbation of the microbiome; the role of prebiotics, probiotics, and antimicrobial peptides. We highlight potential strategies to minimize the use of antimicrobials. EXPERT OPINION Measures to control infection and its transmission remain significant HSCT management policy and planning issues. Transplant centers need to consider carefully prophylactic use of antimicrobials for neutropenic patients. The judicious use of appropriate antimicrobials remains a crucial part of the treatment protocol. However, antimicrobials' adverse effects cause microbiome diversity and dysbiosis and have been shown to increase morbidity and mortality.

Abstract
Background The high-risk refractory and/or relapsed (R/R) childhood acute leukemia prognosis is poor, and allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is the most prudent treatment modality. However, there are limited matched sibling donors (MSDs), and alternative donors (ADs) are the main source for allo-HSCT. Thus, we evaluated the clinical efficacy of AD peripheral allo-HSCT for treating high-risk R/R childhood acute leukemia. Methods We assessed 111 children who underwent allo-HSCT at the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Zhengzhou University between October 2006 and July 2019. The patients were divided in the MSD and AD groups, and their clinical characteristics, complications, and survival rates were compared. Results The cumulative incidences of Epstein–Barr virus and cytomegalovirus infections were significantly higher in the AD than in the MSD group (P < 0.001); however, the recurrence and mortality rates were significantly higher in the MSD than in the AD group (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the 5-year disease-free (DFS) (65.2% vs. 43.3%, P = 0.033) and overall survival (OS) rates (71.6% vs. 53.8%, P = 0.053) were significantly higher in the AD than in the MSD group. In the AD group, the grade II–IV acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD), donor-recipient ABO compatibility, conditioning regimen, and CMV infection affected the 5-year OS. The grade II–IV aGVHD also affected the 5-year DFS; however, only the donor-recipient ABO compatibility affected the 5-year DFS. The donor MSD (HR: 2.035, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.057–3.920, P = 0.034) and the grade II–IV aGVHD (HR: 2.914, 95% CI 1.261–6.736, P = 0.012) affected the 5-year DFS of childhood acute leukemia after allo-HSCT, and the grade II–IV aGVHD (HR: 3.016, 95% CI 1.217–7.473, P = 0.017) affected the 5-year OS. Moreover, the donor source (HR: 2.836, 95% CI 1.179–6.823, P = 0.020) and grade II–IV aGVHD (HR: 3.731, 95% CI 1.332–10.454, P = 0.012) were independent predictors of the 5-year DFS, while the latter (HR: 3.524, 95% CI 1.310–10.988, P = 0.030) was an independent predictor of the 5-year OS. Conclusions AD-PBSCT was effective for high-risk R/R childhood leukemia and may have better clinical outcomes than MSD-PBSCT; thus, it can be used as first-line treatment for high-risk R/R childhood leukemia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the impact of donor- and recipient-related factors on Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and overall survival of transplantation from matched sibling donors. METHOD we retrospectively analyzed the clinical features of 68 consecutive hematological patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) from matched sibling from 2011 and 2017. RESULTS The incidence of Ⅱ- Ⅳacute GVHD (aGVHD) and chronic GVHD (cGVHD) after transplantation was 13.6 % and 19.7 %, respectively. We also noted the donor and recipient characteristics had no impact on Ⅱ- Ⅳ aGVHD incidence.We found sex mismatch (F-M) did not increase the risk of cGVHD in the model if a female donor was younger than 30 years (P = 1.000), but cGVHD increased if the female donor was ≥30 years (P = 0.002). Recipients≥40 years undergoing HCT from donors ≥30 years were at higher risk for cGVHD (P = 0.021). Development of Ⅱ- Ⅳ aGVHD and cGVHD had no effect on overall survival (P = 0.159, 0.081). Non-remission status at allo-HCT was linked to lower overall survival (P = 0.001). CONCLUSION The incidence of cGVHD was higher when male recipients received hematopoietic progenitor cells from female ≥30 years donors, and when older than 40 years recipients received hematopoietic progenitor cells from ≥30 years donors. Patients in non-remission status at allo-HCT was inclined to have lower overall survival.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Leukemia is a cancer of blood and bone marrow cells, causing about 300,000 deaths worldwide. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a promising alternative for the treatment of malignant tumors. KillerRed is a genetically encoded red fluorescent protein photosensitizer (PS). In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of KillerRed-mediated PDT on chronic myelogenous leukemia K562 cells, acute monocytic leukemia NB4 cells, and acute monocytic leukemia THP1 cells. METHODS KillerRed was expressed in Escherichia coli cells, purified by Q-Sepharose column, and confirmed by western-blotting. The PDT effect on cell proliferation was evaluated by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8). Cell apoptosis was determined by PE Annexin V/7-AAD staining and flow cytometry. The distribution of KillerRed in leukemia cells was detected by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and western-blotting. The ROS generation was measured by flow cytometry. RESULTS Pure KillerRed was obtained with a yield of about 37 mg per liter of bacterial cells. KillerRed photodynamic inactivated the leukemia cells in a concentration-dependent manner, but exhibited no obvious dark toxicity. PDT mediated by KillerRed could also induce apoptotic response (mainly early apoptosis) in the three cell lines. The CLSM imaging indicated that KillerRed was distributed within the cytoplasm and nuclei of leukemia cells, causing damages to the cytoplasm and leaving the nuclear envelope intact during light irradiation. KillerRed distributed both in the cytosol and nuclei was confirmed by western blotting, and ROS significantly increased in PDT treated cells compared to the cells treated with KillerRed alone. CONCLUSIONS Our studies demonstrated that KillerRed-mediated PDT could effectively inactivate K562, NB4, and THP1 leukemia cells and trigger cell apoptosis, and it has potential to be used individually or complementally, in the treatment of leukemia.

Abstract
During the last five years, there has been a significantly increasing interest in adult adipose stem cells (ASCs) as a suitable tool for translational medicine applications. The abundant and renewable source of ASCs and the relatively simple procedure for cell isolation are only some of the reasons for this success. Here, we document the advances in the biology and in the innovative biotechnological applications of ASCs. We discuss how the multipotential property boosts ASCs toward mesenchymal and non-mesenchymal differentiation cell lineages and how their character is maintained even if they are combined with gene delivery systems and/or biomaterials, both in vitro and in vivo.

Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major global cause of morbidity and mortality, projected to become the 3rd cause of disease mortality worldwide by 2020. COPD is characterized by persistent and not fully reversible airflow limitation that is usually progressive and is associated with an abnormal chronic inflammatory response of the lung to noxious agents including cigarette smoke. Currently available therapeutic strategies aim to ease COPD symptoms but cannot prevent its progress or regenerate physiological lung structure or function. The urgently needed new approaches for the treatment of COPD include stem cell therapies among which transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells derived from Wharton’s jelly (WJ-MSCs) emerges as a promising therapeutic strategy because of the unique properties of these cells. The present review discusses the main biological properties of WJ-MSCs pertinent to their potential application for the treatment of COPD in the context of COPD pathomechanisms with emphasis on chronic immune inflammatory processes that play key roles in the development and progression of COPD.
