Computational insights into zinc silicate MOF structures: topological modeling, structural characterization and chemical predictions

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) play a pivotal role in modern material science, offering unique properties such as flexibility, substantial pore space, distinctive structure, and large surface area. Recently, zinc-based MOFs have attracted significant attention, particularly in the biomedical arena, owing to their versatile applications in drug delivery, biosensing, and cancer imaging. However, there remains a crucial need to explore and understand the structural properties of zinc silicate-based MOFs to fully exploit their potential in various applications. The objective of this study is to address this need by employing topological modeling techniques to characterize zinc silicate networks. Utilizing connection number concept of chemical graph theory and novel AL molecular descriptors, we aim to investigate the structural intricacies of these MOFs. More precisely, zinc silicate-based MOF networks are topologically modeled via novel AL topological indices, and derived mathematical closed form formulae for them. By comparing experimental and calculated values and constructing linear regression models, the predictive capabilities of the proposed descriptors are evaluated. Specifically, the performance of derived topological indices against the physico-chemical properties of octane isomers is assessed, which provide valuable insights into their predictive potential. The findings of this study demonstrated the potential of novel AL indices in predicting a wide range of important physico-chemical properties, further enhancing their practicality in materials science and beyond.

Graph theoretical concepts are broadly used in several fields to examine and model various applications. In computational chemistry, the characteristics of a molecular compound can be assessed with the help of a numerical value, known as a topological index. Topological indices are extensively used to study the molecular mechanics in QSAR and QSPR modeling. In this study, we have developed the closed formulae to estimate ABC, ABC₄, GA, and GA₅ topological indices for the graphical structures of boron nitride and carbon nanotube.

QSPR Models for the Prediction of Some Thermodynamic Properties of Cycloalkanes Using GA-MLR Method

AIM AND OBJECTIVE

Cycloalkanes have been largely used in the field of medicine, components of food, pharmaceutical drugs, and they are mainly used to produce fuel. In present study the relationship between molecular descriptors and thermodynamic properties such as the standard enthalpies of formation (∆H°_f), the standard enthalpies of fusion (∆H°_fus), and the standard Gibbs free energy of formation (∆G°_f)of the cycloalkanes is represented.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The Genetic Algorithm (GA) and multiple linear regressions (MLR) were successfully used to predict the thermodynamic properties of cycloalkanes. A large number of molecular descriptors were obtained with the Dragon program. The Genetic algorithm and backward method were used to reduce and select suitable descriptors.

RESULTS

QSPR models were used to delineate the important descriptors responsible for the properties of the studied cycloalkanes. The multicollinearity and autocorrelation properties of the descriptors contributed in the models were tested by calculating the Variance Inflation Factor (VIF), Pearson Correlation Coefficient (PCC) and the Durbin-Watson (DW) statistics. The predictive powers of the MLR models were discussed using Leave-One-Out Cross-Validation (LOOCV) and test set validation methods. The statistical parameters of the training, and test sets for GA-MLR models were calculated.

CONCLUSION

The results of the present study indicate that the predictive ability of the models was satisfactory and molecular descriptors such as: the Functional group counts, Topological indices, GETAWAY descriptors, Constitutional indices, and molecular properties provide a promising route for developing highly correlated QSPR models for prediction the studied properties.
