Spindle cell haemangioma - Report of a rare entity

Spindle cell haemangioma is a rare benign vascular neoplasm. Its occurrence in the oral cavity is uncommon and may be mistaken for other common oral lesions such as mucoceles or fibromas. Microscopically, it has features which are similar to those of other vascular neoplasms and may be a cause for potential mis-diagnosis. In this article, we report a case in the lower lip of a young male patient.

Successful Outcome After Intralesional Curettage for Spindle Cell Hemangioma of Fibula in an Infant: A Case Report

Spindle cell hemangioma (SCH), a non-neoplastic reactive vascular lesion, rarely locates in bones. We herein report a successful case of intralesional curettage for an infant with SCH of fibula. An 11-month-old boy was admitted to our center with a painless mass in the right proximal calf. Preoperative digital radiograph demonstrated a massive vascular lesion with an irregular bone destruction of proximal fibula. The lesion was removed via the intralesional curettage approach and pathologically diagnosed as SCH. The patient gained bone structure recovery of right proximal fibula. Two years after the surgery, he experienced no local recurrence. For the management of SCH of fibula with partial bone destruction, we suggest early-stage intralesional curettage as its safety and effectiveness.

Congenital Lobular Capillary Hemangioma in a 48 hours old neonate: a case report and a literature review

Objectives

To report an unusual presentation of a Lobular Capillary Hemangioma in a 48 h old neonate to inform practitioners on the importance of proper identification of the lesion, differential diagnosis and management.

Case presentation

We report the case of a newborn female presenting with a pedunculated mass on the right hand, port-wine colored that quickly turned dark purple indicating thrombosis. The mass was surgically excised without complications and histopathology analysis reported a LCH. An abdominal and renal ultrasound was requested to rule out any underlying abnormalities. At follow-up, two months later, there is adequate healing and no related complications.

Conclusions

Lobular Capillary Hemangioma is a rare vascular malformation that occurs at an early age in the head and neck in most cases. We report an unusual case of a newborn female patient with a pedunculated lobular hemangioma on the right hand. Surgical treatment was performed with good cosmetic results. Our case is relevant as it raises awareness of the different diagnoses a congenital mass can be and that we, as physicians, should take into consideration when making a diagnosis and treatment.

Vascular lesions of the head and neck: an update on classification and imaging review

Vascular lesions have a varied appearance and can commonly occur in the head and neck. A majority of these lesions are cutaneous and congenital; however, some may be acquired and malignant. The presentation and clinical history of patients presenting with head and neck lesions can be used to guide further imaging, which can provide important diagnostic and therapeutic considerations. This review discusses the revised International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies (ISSVA) classification system for vascular tumors and malformations, as well as explores the most common vascular anomalies including their clinical presentations and imaging findings.
