Abstract
Purpose To study the relationship between fundus alterations, including retinal thickness and microvascular changes, and dermatomyositis (DM) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Methods A total of 16 patients with DM (32 eyes) and 16 healthy controls (HCs; 32 eyes) participated in this study. Based on the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study subzones, OCTA fundus data were divided into different layers and regions for comparison. Results The full retinal thickness (RT) in the inner nasal (IN), outer nasal (ON), inner inferior (II), and outer inferior (OI) regions of patients with DM was significantly lower than that of HCs (P < 0.001). The inner layer RT was also significantly lower in the IN, ON, II, and OI regions in patients with DM (P < 0.001). The outer layer RT was lower only in the II region in patients with DM compared to HCs (P < 0.001). The full RT of the II region was more sensitive to the pathological changes of disease since its ROC curve had an AUC of 0.9028, 95% CI: 0.8159-0.9898. Meanwhile, the superficial vessel density (SVD) of patients with DM was significantly lower in the IN, ON, II, and OI regions compared to HCs (P < 0.001). The AUC for region II was 0.9634 (95% CI: 0.9034-1.0), which indicated good diagnostic sensitivity. Conclusion Optical coherence tomography angiography can be used to evaluate relevant ocular lesions and monitor disease progression in patients with DM and interstitial lung disease.

Abstract
PurposeTo investigate the quantitative changes in iris and retinal blood flow indices after femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) and small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE).MethodsSeventy-nine patients who underwent FS-LASIK or SMILE were enrolled between July 2020 and September 2020. Participants were followed-up 1 day pre-operatively and 1 week, 1 month, 3 months post-operatively. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) was used to acquire and quantify the iris and retinal blood flow indices.ResultsThe iris vessel area density (VAD) and vessel skeleton density (VSD) decreased on post-operative day 1 but recovered on day 7. In both cases, the pupil diameter was positively associated with the post-operative iris blood flow indices (p = 0.0013, p = 0.0002). The retinal VAD and VSD in the superficial and deep capillary plexuses decreased after surgery and failed to recover after 90 days. The SMILE group showed significantly lower iris and retinal blood flow indices than the FS-LASIK group. For both procedures, axial length (p = 0.0345, p = 0.0499), spherical equivalence (p = 0.0063, p = 0.0070), and suction duration (p = 0.0025, p = 0.0130) were negatively correlated with the post-operative VAD and VSD.ConclusionsThe SMILE and FS-LASIK procedures induced a short-term decrease in the iris and retinal blood flow indices, although patients finally showed full visual recovery. This phenomenon should be carefully considered, especially in patients prone to anterior segment lesions.

Abstract
Purpose To explore alterations in macular retinal thickness (RT) and analyze correlation between macular RT and pterygium area, length in pterygium patients. Methods Totally 13 patients with pterygium (left eye) and 13 healthy controls (left eye) were recruited. OCTA was applied to scan each eye to generate three-dimensional images. Based on the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) method, each image was divided into nine subregions for the ETDRS: central (C); inner superior (IS); outer superior (OS); inner nasal (IN); outer nasal (ON); inner inferior (II); outer inferior (OI); inner temporal (IT); and outer temporal (OT). The macular RT in each subregion was measured. Furthermore, the correlation between RT and the area, length of pterygium was analyzed. Results The visual acuity of pterygium patient was different from that of the control (P < 0.05). Besides, decreased intraretinal thickness of the IN and ON, increased intraretinal thickness of OT, decreased extraretinal thickness of OT, IN, ON, OS, and decreased retinal full layer thickness of medial superior, OS, IN, ON, and II subregions in pterygium group were observed. There was a negative correlation between RT of the IN and ON subregions and the length of pterygium (r = -0.5803 and r = -0.6013, P = 0.0376 and P = 0.0297). The RT of IN subregion was negatively correlated with pterygium area (r = -0.5844, P = 0.0359). According to the receiver operating characteristic analysis, in the ON subregion, the areas under the curve of the inner retinal thickness, outer retinal thickness and the whole retinal thickness were 1.0 (95% CI: 1.0), 0.882 (95% CI: 0.715 and 0.963), and 1.0 (95% CI: 1.0). The smallest area under the curve of retinal thickness in OT subregion was 0.018 (95% CI: 0-0.059). Conclusion RT of pterygium patients was significantly decreased, and the main alterations occurred in the temporal side suggesting there might exist retinal structural alterations in pterygium.

Abstract
Myopia has become an important public health problem to be solved urgently. Posterior chamber phakic implantable Collamer lens (ICL) implantation is one of the latest and safest products for myopia correction worldwide. This prospective cross-sectional case series aimed to observe changes in the macular retinal thickness, retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness of para-optic disk region, and blood flow density after posterior ICL implantation in patients with high myopia using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). A total of 67 eyes of 67 patients with high myopia, who underwent ICL implantation at The Affiliated Eye Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2020 and December 2020, were included. The spherical equivalent (SE) of the operative eyes was >−6.00 D. The changes in vision, intraocular pressure (IOP), SE, and vault were observed pre-operatively, and follow-up were performed 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months. OCTA was used to observe the changes in the CRT, retinal thickness of paracentral fovea, FAZ, superficial and deep retinal blood flow density in the macular area, RNFL thickness of para-optic disk region, and blood flow density before and after ICL implantation. The uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) and best corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) of the patients post-operation were significantly improved (P < 0.001). The IOP increased in comparison with other time points at 1 week post-operation (P < 0.05). There were no significant changes in CRT post-operation. The retinal thickness in the upper, lower, nasal, and temporal quadrants of the paracentral fovea increased significantly at 1 month and 3 months post-operation (P < 0.05). The FAZ area at all postoperative time points were decreased (P < 0.001). At 3 months post-operation, the blood flow density of the superficial and deep retinal layers in the upper, lower, and nasal macular area were significantly reduced (P < 0.05). At 1 month post-operation, the RNFL thickness in the temporal para-optic disk region and blood flow density were significantly reduced (P = 0.001 and P < 0.05, respectively). ICL implantation for highly myopic eyes led to an increase of the retinal thickness in the upper, lower, nasal, and temporal regions of the paracentral fovea; reduction of RNFL thickness in the temporal area of para-optic disk; decrease in FAZ area; and decrease in the blood flow density of some deep and superficial retinal layers as well as that of the temporal para-optic disk region.

Abstract
Objective In order to analyze changes in retinal vessel flow after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). Methods A total of 32 patients (62 eyes) who underwent SMILE were enrolled in this prospective study. Optical parameters, including vessel density (VD), and perfusion density (PD) of foveal, parafoveal, and perifoveal regions, respectively, were measured before surgery and at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months postoperation. Preoperative parameters and surgical parameters were recorded. Results Significant decreases in VD and PD on postoperative day 1 were detected in all quadrants, both in 3 mm and in 6 mm regions (P < 0.001). One month after surgery, VD returned to preoperative levels. None of the preoperative and surgical parameters were significantly correlated with the VD and PD fluctuations (all P > 0.05). Conclusion. VD may decrease significantly with regional disparity 1 day after SMILE while recovering at 1 month. Elevation of intraocular pressure due to suction may account for such changes.

Abstract
Purpose To investigate the differences of retinal thickness (RT) and superficial vascular density (SVD) between patients with Sjogren's syndrome (SS) and healthy controls (HCs) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Methods Individuals with SS and healthy controls were enrolled (n = 12 per group). An en-face OCTA scan was performed on each eye. Images were segmented into 9 subregions and macular RT and SVD were measured and compared between the 2 groups. Results Visual acuity (VA) differed significantly between patients with SS (24 eyes) and controls (24 eyes) (p < 0.001). In patients with SS, inner RT was reduced in the inner superior region, outer RT was reduced in the outer nasal (ON) region, and full RT was reduced in the ON region compared with the control group (p < 0.05). RT was negatively correlated with serum IgG level in the outer and full retina at ON regions (p < 0.05). SVD in the inner nasal, ON, and inner temporal regions was significantly lower in patients with SS than in control subjects (p < 0.05). SVD was positively correlated with full RT in the ON region in patients with SS (p < 0.05). The areas under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves for the diagnostic sensitivity of outer RT and full RT in the ON region for SS were 0.828 (95% CI: 0.709–0.947) and 0.839 (95% CI: 0.715–0.963), respectively. Conclusions In patients with SS, retinal thinning in the macular area—which affects vision—can also reflect the severity of dry eyes in SS and has clinical value for assisted imaging diagnosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To evaluate the microvascularity and choroidal vascularity index (CVI) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and OCT following femtosecond laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) and small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) procedures. METHODS Patients with myopia (<-6.0D sphere) or myopic astigmatism (<-4.0D astigmatism) were enroled. The percentage of vessel density and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) size, optic disc flux index and perfusion were noted and the CVI was calculated before and after surgery. RESULTS Twenty-nine eyes of 16 patients in the FS-LASIK group and 30 eyes of 16 patients in the SMILE group were enroled. Macular vessel density, FAZ size, and optic disc flux index were significantly higher on postoperative 1st day compared to preoperative day (p = 0.001, p = 0.007, and p < 0.001, respectively). There was no significant difference in terms of macular and peripapillary CVI between postoperative 1st day and preoperative day (p > 0.05). All microvascular parameters were similar on postoperative 7th day and preoperative day (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS It was detected that there is a transient alteration in macular and peripapillary microvascularity after FS-LASIK/SMILE, whereas choroidal circularity is not significantly affected by these refractive surgeries.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the effect of changing anterior eye refractive power with contact lenses on the transverse magnification of en face images and associated vascular indices from optical coherence tomographic angiography (OCT-A). DESIGN Prospective crossover study. METHODS Spherical soft contact lenses (-6 diopter [D] to +6 D in 2 D steps) were used to induce anterior eye refractive power changes in 11 healthy young adults and 3 × 3-mm macular scans were captured using OCT-A (Zeiss AngioPlex, software version 11.0; Cirrus HD-OCT 5000, Carl Zeiss Meditec Inc). Image transverse magnification was predicted based on refraction and biometry measurements and compared with empirical changes in the en face images measured with image analysis. Linear regression analysis was performed to assess the relationship between induced refractive ametropia and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area, perimeter, circularity, and vessel density and perfusion density. RESULTS The predicted transverse magnification was linearly related to induced refractive ametropia and to the empirical transverse magnification changes (average slope: 1.02, 95% CI: 0.90-1.34). All the OCT-A indices showed linear relationships with induced refractive ametropia (P < .05) with the 12 D tested range altering the indices by 7% to 12%. After correcting for transverse magnification, all OCT-A indices except FAZ area were linearly related to induced refractive ametropia (P < .05) and were reduced to 1% to 9%. CONCLUSIONS This study is the first to show that induced refractive ametropia can affect OCT-A image magnification and indices. These changes are clinically important and need to be considered along with biometry effects when interpreting OCT-A indices. Transverse magnification changes can affect the ability of OCT-A to precisely measure linear dimensions of blood vessels.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY To investigate the change in individual retinal layer thickness by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in eyes underwent femtosecond laser-assisted laser in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). METHODS In patients who underwent PRK and FS-LASIK, changes in the thickness of all retinal layers in the foveal, parafoveal, and perifoveal regions were evaluated by SD-OCT automated segmentation analysis at pre-operatively and different time points post-operatively. RESULTS Seventy-one eyes of 71 patients (38 patients in PRK, 33 patients in LASIK) were included. In the pre-operative period, mean spherical equivalent (SE), mean keratometry, axial length, and segmentation values of the retinal layers were similar (P> .05). In the PRK group, the pre-operative measurements of individual retinal layers did not show a statistically significant difference compared to the post-operative measurements on the 1st day, 1st week, and 1st month. In the FS-LASIK group, the mean inner nuclear layer (INL) thickness one day after the surgery was significantly higher than that before surgery in the foveal (21.22 ± 4.66 µm vs 19.03 ± 4.50 µm, P= .013) and parafoveal regions (41.98 ± 3.70 µm vs 40.56 ± 3.49 µm, P= .044). CONCLUSIONS The findings of our study suggest that the increase of INL thickness may be due to temporary structural and circulatory changes of the retina that may occur in the suction phase in the FS-LASIK procedure.

Abstract
Background To analyse short-term changes in the anterior segment and retina after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). Methods Patients with myopia scheduled for SMILE were recruited from Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai, China. Basic patient information such as age, sex, and refractive errors was recorded. Ocular measurements were taken before surgery, and 1 day and 1 week after surgery; they included axial length (AL), central corneal thickness (CCT), anterior chamber depth (ACD), lens thickness (LT), white to white (WTW), pupil diameter (PD), macular thickness (MT), ganglion cell layer thickness (GCL), retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFL), choroidal thickness (CT), macular vessel density, and optic disc vessel density. Results Sixty-one eyes of 31 patients were selected for this study. AL, CCT, ACD, and postoperative PD were significantly reduced (p < 0.05), while LT was thickened after surgery (p < 0.05). MT at the fovea decreased 1 day and 1 week after surgery (p < 0.05). GCL showed no significant changes after surgery. RNFL was unchanged 1 day after surgery, but the inferior sector was thickened 1 week after surgery. CT was thicker at the fovea 1 day after surgery and 1.0 mm from the fovea in the nasal sector 1 week after surgery. Macular vessel density was significantly decreased 1 day after surgery and most recovered in 1 week. Optic disc vessel density decreased at the peripapillary part 1 day after surgery and recovered after 1 week. ΔACD and ΔLT showed no significant correlation 1 day after surgery. ΔACD was negatively correlated with ΔLT and sphere 1 week after surgery (r = − 0.847, p < 0.000; r = − 0.398, p = 0.002). ΔLT was positively correlated with the sphere 1 week after surgery (r = 0.256, p = 0.048). Conclusion The anterior segment was the most affected, while the retina also underwent changes with regard to MT, RNFL, CT, macular vessel density, and peripapillary vessel density.
