Rapid-Response and Highly Sensitive Boronate Derivative-Based Fluorescence Probe for Detecting H2O2 in Living Cells

Perylene-Based Smart Fluoroprobe with Dual Function: Ratiometric Response toward Hazardous Organic Peroxides and Pure White Light Generation via Self-Assembly

In this report, we have designed and synthesized a perylene-based smart fluoroprobe (PBE) in which the perylene core has been functionalized with the boronate group at the peri-position. PBE shows a very fast and ratiometric response toward harmful organic peroxides (OPs) generated in old ethereal solvents via auto-oxidation. The response toward OPs takes place with a visible color change from green to yellow, which could be easily observed with the naked eye. The reaction between PBE and OPs involves the cleavage of the boronate group and its consequent conversion into the -OH group. The response of PBE toward OPs was monitored using UV-vis absorption, fluorescence emission, IR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. Additionally, we have also explored the self-assembly of PBE in an organic-aqueous solvent mixture, which shows pure white light emission (WLE) with the CIE coordinates (0.33, 0.33) in a 50% dimethyl sulfoxide-water mixture. This work clearly reveals that PBE fluoroprobe can be employed for sensitive detection of hazardous OPs present in old ethereal solvents. Moreover, the ability of PBE to generate the perfect pure WLE makes it a potential candidate for application in organic light-emitting devices.

An enhanced chemiluminescence hybrids of luminol by sulfonated polyaniline decorated copper-based metal organic frame composite applicable to the measurement of hydrogen peroxide in a wide pH range

Here, sulfonated polyaniline (SPAN) was decorated on the surface of copper-based metal organic frame (HKUST-1) and the composite was functionalized by luminol to construct a chemiluminescence (CL) hybrids (SPAN/HKUST-1@Luminol). The as-prepared SPAN/HKUST-1@Luminol demonstrated a great dispersion and stability performance in aqueous solution. Moreover, the resultant SPAN/HKUST-1@Luminol hybrids exhibited extremely strong CL properties, and the CL quantum yield was 136 times higher than that of luminol. In particular, it exhibited outstanding CL activity not only under alkaline conditions, but also under neutral conditions. The sensitive response of the hybrid to hydrogen peroxide was used to construct CL methods for the detection of hydrogen peroxide at a wide range of pH, with the detection limit of 60 nM at a neutral condition and 25 pM at alkaline condition. Due to strong and stable signal of the SPAN/HKUST-1@Luminol, the CL method provides a viable tool for determination of H₂O₂ in biological systems and enabled the monitoring of stimulated production of H₂O₂ released by living cells.

A new recognition moiety diphenylborinate in the detection of pyruvate via Lewis acid/base sensing pathway and its bioimaging applications

Developing new reaction based recognizing units can enhance the specificity of target analyte molecules in practical applications of real samples and biosystems. Therefore, introducing a recognizing moiety diphenylborinate was encountered for the detection of pyruvate biomolecule through Lewis acid-base reaction based sensing strategy. The construction of the Schiff-base back bone between quinoline and N-(diethylamino)salicylaldehyde-diphenylborinate (QSB) were expressed the red shift from blue emission of quinoline in to green as that of dative bond developed between Schiff base nitrogen and boron atoms. The new sensing approach was involved such a way that fluorophore QSB is a Lewis acid while pyruvate acts as Lewis base, where the elimination of Lewis pair produced a weak green fluorescence including the formation of quinoline, N-(diethylamino)salicylaldehyde (QS). The switching products were witnessed through ¹H NMR titration, HR-MS and FT-IR studies. The good selectivity and interference ability were achieved in presence of 1000-fold excess of possible interferences with LOD of 16 nM. Moreover, the tracking ability of the probe was employed towards pyruvate in live HeLa cell imaging for evaluating an exogenous and endogenous signals producing ability and its mitochondria targeting property was investigated successfully. Further, the practical utility of the probe was tested with milk samples and obtained good recovery results.

Highly Sensitive Water Detection Through Reversible Fluorescence Changes in a syn-Bimane Based Boronic Acid Derivative

Reported herein is a fluorometric and colorimetric sensor for the presence of trace amounts of water in organic solvents, using syn-bimane based boronate ester 1. This sensor responds to the presence of water with a highly sensitive turn-off fluorescence response, with detection limits as low as 0.018% water (v/v). Moreover, analogously high performance was observed when compound 1 was adsorbed on filter paper, with the paper-based sensor responding both to the presence of liquid water and to humid atmospheres. Reusability of the paper-based sensor up to 11 cycles was demonstrated, albeit with progressive decreases in the performance, and 1H NMR and mass spectrometry analyses were used to explain the observed, hydrolysis-based sensor response.

Aggregation-induced emission luminogens for RONS sensing

The development of AIE bioprobes for RONS sensing in living systems is now summarized. We discuss some representative examples of AIEgen based bioprobes in terms of their molecular design, sensing mechanism and sensitive sensing in vitro and in vivo.
