An Optimized Method for Skin Cancer Diagnosis Using Modified Thermal Exchange Optimization Algorithm

A novel artificial intelligence-based predictive analytics technique to detect skin cancer

One of the leading causes of death among people around the world is skin cancer. It is critical to identify and classify skin cancer early to assist patients in taking the right course of action. Additionally, melanoma, one of the main skin cancer illnesses, is curable when detected and treated at an early stage. More than 75% of fatalities worldwide are related to skin cancer. A novel Artificial Golden Eagle-based Random Forest (AGEbRF) is created in this study to predict skin cancer cells at an early stage. Dermoscopic images are used in this instance as the dataset for the system's training. Additionally, the dermoscopic image information is processed using the established AGEbRF function to identify and segment the skin cancer-affected area. Additionally, this approach is simulated using a Python program, and the current research's parameters are assessed against those of earlier studies. The results demonstrate that, compared to other models, the new research model produces better accuracy for predicting skin cancer by segmentation.

Tuberculosis Detection in Chest Radiographs Using Spotted Hyena Algorithm Optimized Deep and Handcrafted Features

Lung abnormality in humans is steadily increasing due to various causes, and early recognition and treatment are extensively suggested. Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the lung diseases, and due to its occurrence rate and harshness, the World Health Organization (WHO) lists TB among the top ten diseases which lead to death. The clinical level detection of TB is usually performed using bio-medical imaging methods, and a chest X-ray is a commonly adopted imaging modality. This work aims to develop an automated procedure to detect TB from X-ray images using VGG-UNet-supported joint segmentation and classification. The various phases of the proposed scheme involved; (i) image collection and resizing, (ii) deep-features mining, (iii) segmentation of lung section, (iv) local-binary-pattern (LBP) generation and feature extraction, (v) optimal feature selection using spotted hyena algorithm (SHA), (vi) serial feature concatenation, and (vii) classification and validation. This research considered 3000 test images (1500 healthy and 1500 TB class) for the assessment, and the proposed experiment is implemented using Matlab®. This work implements the pretrained models to detect TB in X-rays with improved accuracy, and this research helped achieve a classification accuracy of >99% with a fine-tree classifier.

An efficient image segmentation method for skin cancer imaging using improved golden jackal optimization algorithm

Skin cancer is one of the worst cancers nowadays that poses a severe threat to the health and safety of individuals. Therefore, skin cancer classification and early diagnosis are recommended to preserve human life. Multilevel thresholding image segmentation is well-known and influential technique for extracting regions of interest from skin cancer images to improve the classification process. Therefore, this paper proposes an efficient version of the recently developed golden jackal optimization (GJO) algorithm, the opposition-based golden jackal optimizer (IGJO). The IGJO algorithm is used to solve the multilevel thresholding problem using Otsu's method as an objective function. The proposed algorithm is compared with seven other meta-heuristic algorithms: whale optimization algorithm, seagull optimization algorithm, salp swarm algorithm, Harris hawks optimization, artificial gorilla troops optimizer, marine predators' algorithms, and original GJO algorithm. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated using four popular performance measures: peak signal-to-noise ratio, structure similarity index, feature similarity index, and mean square error. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms other alternative algorithms in terms of PSNR, SSIM, FSIM, and MSE segmentation metrics and effectively resolves the segmentation problem.
