Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the obturation ability of simulated lateral canal in mandibular premolars at three levels (3, 5, and 7 mm) from the apex using gutta-percha and BC Sealer HiFlow (BCHiF) with different obturation techniques, including continuous wave compaction (CWC), cold lateral condensation (CLC), and single cone (SC) techniques, by a 3D assessment method of the obturation volume with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and MIMICS software analysis. METHODS Thirty intact human mandibular premolars were decoronated, instrumented up to #30 taper 4%, and uniformly irrigated with 5.25% NaOCl and 17% EDTA. Six simulated lateral canals (3 pairs) were prepared at 3, 5, and 7 mm from the apex in each root, using #10 modified C-file. CBCT images were obtained, and lateral canal volumes were calculated using MIMICS software. The samples were divided into three groups: CWC (n = 10), CLC (n = 10), and SC (n = 10). All groups were obturated with BCHiF and gutta-percha. Another CBCT image was taken post-obturation, and 3D lateral canal obturation volume percentages were calculated using MIMICS software. Data were analyzed using SPSS software with One-way ANOVA and Sidak tests (α = 0.05). RESULTS Significant differences were observed in the 3D lateral canal obturation volume percentage at all three levels (P < 0.05). Both CWC and CLC techniques demonstrated higher 3D lateral canal obturation volume percentages (x ¯ = 89.64% andx ¯ = 73.28%; respectively) compared to the SC group)x ¯ = 43.10%). CONCLUSION BCHiF combined with the CWC technique has a higher ability to achieve preferable 3D obturation volume in the simulated lateral canal at 3, 5, and 7 mm. CLINICAL RELEVANCE In cases requiring endodontic treatment with lateral canals, the CWC obturation technique using BCHiF with gutta-percha may offer better outcomes compared to other obturation techniques.

Abstract
Objective The removal of the root canal sealer is an important factor in nonsurgical retreatment. The aim of this study was to compare the removal of AH Plus, Well Root ST, and AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer using Protaper Universal retreatment files. Methods The curved mesio-buccal canals of extracted mandibular molars were prepared with the Protaper Gold file system (up to F2). Specimens were randomly divided into 3 groups and filled with the single cone technique using AH Plus, Well-Root ST, and AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer, respectively. After two weeks, the root canal filling of all specimens was removed using Protaper Universal retreatment files. All specimens were scanned using micro-CT. The remaining volume of the root canal filling was recorded in total and the coronal, middle, and apical third of each specimen. Results Well-Root ST and AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer groups had a higher percentage of total remaining filling material than the AH Plus group (P<0.05). Conclusion This study has shown that the volume of remaining root canal filling was significantly higher in the samples filled with calcium silicate-based sealers.

Abstract
Introduction The current study aimed to compare the quality of root canal obturation performed with cold lateral condensation with other obturation techniques. Materials and Methods Diverse Search was conducted using six electronic/academic databases following PICOS (i.e. population, intervention, control, outcomes, and study design) strategy: (P) Extracted mature permanent teeth; (I) Obturation techniques except for cold lateral condensation; (C) Cold lateral condensation tyechnique; (O) Quality of root canal obturation; and (S) In vitro studies assessing parameters using micro-computed tomography. The statistical method used for the meta-analyses was the "inverse variance DerSimonian-Laird test". The heterogeneity data was calculated using the T2, Cochran Q test, and I2 statistics. Results Fifteen studies were included for the final analysis; one had a low risk of bias, eight a moderate risk, and six a high risk of bias. Ten studies were selected for meta-analyses; three studies comparing cold lateral condensation with carrier-based gutta-percha techniques [P=0.96; mean difference (MD)=-0.02; confidence interval (CI): (-0.77, 0.73); I2=21%]; three comparing cold lateral condensation with single-cone techniques [P=0.75; MD=-0.39; CI: (-2.77, 1.99); I2=92%]; two comparing cold lateral condensation and thermo-plasticized injectable techniques [P=0.37; MD=5.91; CI: (-7.13,18.94); I2=99%]; and five comparing cold lateral condensation with warm vertical condensation techniques [P<0.0001; MD=5.29; CI=(2.84, 7.74); I2=92%]. The overall effect reported significant results [P=0.0003; MD=2.69; CI=(1.23, 4.16); I2=96%]; favoring fewer voids and gaps for the other used obturation techniques. Conclusions Cold lateral condensation and single-cone techniques presented no statistical differences. Nonetheless, Warm vertical condensation technique had better results compared to cold lateral condensation.

Abstract
The single-cone technique, also known as the hydraulic condensation technique, is widely employed in endodontics. However, the aforementioned method is presented with certain limitations; specifically concerning the coronal seal and the adaptation of the coronal third of a master gutta-percha (GP) with a round cross-section to the coronal dentinal walls of root canals with semi-round or oval cross-sections. Through two case reports, the current article introduces the coronal vertical condensation (CVC) technique; aiming to enhance GP adaptation to canal walls in similar scenarios. In fact, the coronal vertical condensation technique amalgamates the different aspects of warm vertical condensation and single-cone techniques. In CVC, following the placement of the master GP cone, an electrical heat carrier is inserted immediately a few millimeters apical from the canal orifice to remove the coronal portion of the master GP cone. Subsequently, a hand plugger is used to condense GP in the vertical dimension, and the coronal space is backfilled using melted GP. The implementation of CVC technique has demonstrated an improved coronal adaptation of GP with canal walls. The stated technique seems beneficial; especially in the obturation of severely curved canals or root canals with a final preparation shape of variable taper.

Abstract
This study aims to shed light on a contemporary approach to preserving third molars instead of opting for immediate extraction. Third molars are known for their diverse shapes and unique anatomy, making root canal treatment a complex task due to limited access. However, there are situations where it is crucial to retain these molars, such as when they provide support or for self-transplantation purposes. The case report focuses on a 33-year-old female patient who presented with pulp necrosis and acute apical periodontitis in the lower right third molar. Instead of extraction, a two-visit conventional root canal treatment was planned. During the initial diagnostic radiographs, only two visible roots were observed, illustrating the typical anatomy of the third molar. However, an unforeseen additional root, referred to as radix paramolaris, was encountered in the mesiobuccal region during the access opening, presenting numerous challenges in the treatment process. Thankfully, advancements in dental technology, such as magnification aids, ultrasonic tips and flexible nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary files, have rendered the management of such intricate cases more attainable. In conclusion, dealing with intricately curved canals in difficult-to-reach teeth like third molars has become more achievable with technological progress, although the operator's skill and experience remain crucial for effective management.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The obturation quality of the mandibular molar mesial canals and isthmuses with two thermoplastic techniques, ultrasonic vertical condensation (UVC) and continuous wave of condensation (CWC), was evaluated using computed microtomography (μCT). METHODS Thirty-six human mandibular molars had been previously scanned and analyzed using μCT for mesial roots with morphologically similar isthmuses for this study. Coronal access and confirmation of foraminal patency were performed, and the actual length of the teeth was established using a clinical microscope (40X magnification). The canals were prepared using ProTaper Gold instruments up to #F3, with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite as the irrigant solution, followed by a passive ultrasonic irrigation protocol. The specimens were randomly divided into the UVC and CWC groups based on the obturation technique to be used. Obturation was performed with #F3 gutta-percha cones cemented using AH Plus Jet sealer. The μCT scans were performed after 15 days, and the images were evaluated by a calibrated examiner blinded to the experimental groups to determine the filling rate of the entire canal area, including the main canal and isthmus. Student's t-test was used for statistical analysis; P values ≤0.05 were considered significant. RESULTS Neither of the thermoplastic obturation techniques achieved complete filling of the canals (86.3% for UVC and 91.4% for CWC), with a statistically significant difference between them (P = .029). CONCLUSIONS Under the conditions of the study, it can be concluded that none of the techniques completely filled the canal/isthmus of the mandibular molars; however, the CWC exhibited better performance.

Abstract
Achieving adequate disinfection and preventing reinfection is the major goal in endodontic treatment. Variation in canal morphology and open porosity of dentine prevents achieving complete disinfection. Questionable biocompatibility of materials as well as a lack of sealing ability questions the usefulness of current obturation methods. With a novel disinfection approach based on the use of boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrodes having shown promising results it was the goal of this series of experiments to investigate the possibility of BDD-mediated in situ forming of a biocompatible obturation material. A combination of calcium phosphate and maleic acid was used as precursor solution while Ion Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (IC-MS), Raman spectroscopy (RAMAN), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dye penetration and micro-computed tomography (µCT) were applied for characterizing the precipitate. It was possible to achieve a BDD-mediated precipitation of brushite in a clinically applicable timeframe. However, tight sealing of the canal system based on brushite could not be achieved.

Abstract
Canal filling materials and techniques have been one of the most studied topics in Endodontics. A simple search using the mesh term "root canal filling" in PubMed revealed more than 11,000 articles, an impressive number that is much higher than "root canal disinfection" (5,544 articles) or even the popular "root canal preparation" (8,527 articles). The overriding importance attributed to root filling procedures is not merely intuitive. It derived from the appealing relevance given by the appearance of the white lines in common radiographs grounded on retrospective clinical data that had identified the quality of a root filling as one of the major causes of treatment failure (lack of healing). Since the publication of the Washington study, impressive efforts have been made for the release of new materials and techniques, as well as, for the development of a plethora of laboratory methods to assess the quality of root filling procedures. This narrative review aims to address and discuss the most relevant laboratory methods to assess the root canal filling. Since filling quality improvements have not translated into higher success rates, as reported in longitudinal clinical studies, more than to deliver a simple methodology-based review, this paper aims to present an in-depth critical view on the assessment of laboratory methods used to study the filling materials and techniques. Recent data indicate that the long-term dimensional stability/degradation over time of endodontic sealers plays a central role in the treatment outcome. In this context, laboratory methods should be developed focusing on predicting, at least to some degree, the long-term clinical behaviour of root canal fillings, rather than simply ranking different materials or techniques.

Abstract
The present study evaluated the effect of ultrasonic agitation on the porosity distribution of BioRoot RCS/single gutta-percha cone (BR/SC) and MTA Flow (MF) root canals fillings used as apical plugs in moderately curved and apically perforated roots. Eighty mesial root canals of mandibular first molars were enlarged up to ProTaper NEXT X5 rotary instrument 2 mm beyond the apical foramen, simulating apical perforations. Specimens were randomly divided into four experimental groups (20 canals per group) according to the material and technique used for root canal obturation: BR/SC, BR/SC with ultrasonic agitation (BR/SC-UA), MF and MF with ultrasonic agitation (MF-UA). The ultrasonic tip was passively inserted into the root canal after the injection of flowable cement and activated for 10 s. The specimens were scanned before and after obturation with a high-resolution micro-computed tomography scanner, and the porosity of the apical plugs was assessed. The differences between groups were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests, with the significance level set at 5%. None of the obturation materials and techniques used in this study was able to provide a pore-free root canal filling in the apical 5 mm. Considerably higher percentages of open and closed pores were observed in the MF and MF-UA groups, with the highest porosity being in the MF-UA group (p < 0.05). No significant differences were observed between the BR/SC and BR/SC-UA groups, where the quantity of open and closed pores remained similar (p > 0.05).

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) applied at varying levels and thickness in the cervical region of the root on the leakage and fracture resistance of the simulated immature teeth. 3 study groups (n = 16) (Group 1: 2 mm MTA, Group 2: 4 mm MTA, Group 3: 2 mm MTA+2 mm RMGIC below cementoenamel junction) and 2 control groups (Group 4: Complete canal obturation, Group 5: No coronal plug) were used for the study. Nanoleakage was measured using a micro-computed tomography system. For the fracture resistance test, a universal testing machine was used. The amount of silver nitrate penetration decreased while MTA thicknesses increased (P < 0.001). However, the placement of MTA as a thicker layer did not make any additional contribution on the fracture resistance (P > 0.05). The 4-mm coronal MTA plug can be suggested in RETs for its superior sealing and reinforcement abilities.
