An energy-aware heart disease prediction system using ESMO and optimal deep learning model for healthcare monitoring in IoT

The Internet of Things (IoT), which provides seamless connectivity between people and things, improves our quality of life. In the medical field, predictive analytics can help transform a reactive healthcare (HC) strategy into a proactive one. The HC industry embraces cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) technologies. ML's area of deep learning has the revolutionary potential to reliably analyze massive volumes of data quickly, produce insightful revelations and solve challenging issues. This article proposes an energy-aware heart disease prediction (HDP) system based on enhanced spider monkey optimization (ESMO) and a weight-optimized neural network for an IoT-based HC environment. The proposed work consists of two essential phases: energy-efficient data transmission and HDP. In energy-efficient transmission, the cluster leaders are optimally selected using ESMO and the cluster formation is done based on Euclidean distance. In HDP, the patient data are collected from the dataset, and essential features are extracted. After that, the dimensionality reduction is carried out using the modified linear discriminant analysis approach to reduce over-fitting issues. Finally, the HDP uses the enhanced Archimedes weight-optimized deep neural network (EAWO-DNN). The simulation findings demonstrate that the proposed optimal clustering mechanism enhances the network's lifespan by consuming minimal energy compared to the existing techniques. Also, the proposed EAWO-DNN classifier achieves higher prediction accuracy, precision, recall and f-measure than the conventional methods for predicting heart disease in IoT.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. A Multi-Agent Prediction Method for Data Sampling and Transmission Reduction in Internet of Things Sensor Networks

Sensor networks can provide valuable real-time data for various IoT applications. However, the amount of sensed and transmitted data should be kept at a low level due to the limitations imposed by network bandwidth, data storage, processing capabilities, and finite energy resources. In this paper, a new method is introduced that uses the predicted intervals of possible sensor readings to efficiently suppress unnecessary transmissions and decrease the amount of data samples collected by a sensor node. In the proposed method, the intervals of possible sensor readings are determined with a multi-agent system, where each agent independently explores a historical dataset and evaluates the similarity between past and current sensor readings to make predictions. Based on the predicted intervals, it is determined whether the real sensed data can be useful for a given IoT application and when the next data sample should be transmitted. The prediction algorithm is executed by the IoT gateway or in the cloud. The presented method is applicable to IoT sensor networks that utilize low-end devices with limited processing power, memory, and energy resources. During the experiments, the advantages of the introduced method were demonstrated by considering the criteria of prediction interval width, coverage probability, and transmission reduction. The experimental results confirm that the introduced method improves the accuracy of prediction intervals and achieves a higher rate of transmission reduction compared with state-of-the-art prediction methods.

Smart IoT in Breast Cancer Detection Using Optimal Deep Learning

IoT in healthcare systems is currently a viable option for providing higher-quality medical care for contemporary e-healthcare. Using an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart healthcare system, a trustworthy breast cancer classification method called Feedback Artificial Crow Search (FACS)-based Shepherd Convolutional Neural Network (ShCNN) is developed in this research. To choose the best routes, the secure routing operation is first carried out using the recommended FACS while taking fitness measures such as distance, energy, link quality, and latency into account. Then, by merging the Crow Search Algorithm (CSA) and Feedback Artificial Tree, the produced FACS is put into practice (FAT). After the completion of routing phase, the breast cancer categorization process is started at the base station. The feature extraction step is then introduced to the pre-processed input mammography image. As a result, it is possible to successfully get features including area, mean, variance, energy, contrast, correlation, skewness, homogeneity, Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM), and Local Gabor Binary Pattern (LGBP). The quality of the image is next enhanced through data augmentation, and finally, the developed FACS algorithm's ShCNN is used to classify breast cancer. The performance of FACS-based ShCNN is examined using six metrics, including energy, delay, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and True Positive Rate (TPR), with the maximum energy of 0.562 J, the least delay of 0.452 s, the highest accuracy of 91.56%, the higher sensitivity of 96.10%, the highest specificity of 91.80%, and the maximum TPR of 99.45%.

Trust-Based Smart Contract for Automated Agent to Agent Communication

Blockchain technology is now regarded as one of the most interesting and possibly innovative technologies. It enables information to be stored and exchanged securely and transparently without the need for a centralized authority to regulate it. Some of the primary benefits of this technology are the atomicity of the stored data. Given its features, this technology has the potential to provide answers to challenges encountered in a very sensitive sector, namely, Internet of Vehicles (IoV). In IoV, vehicles and service providers autonomously capture and produce data without human intervention. This exchanged data must meet certain criteria such as decentralization, automation, security, and stakeholder trust management. To overcome these challenges, the integration of blockchain technology and multi-agent systems is a key solution. Based on smart contracts, the proposed solution consists of exploiting role-based access control (RBAC) and attribute-based access control (ABAC) techniques. This solution removes the central authority (CA) to reduce maintenance costs and eliminate legacy threats from centralized systems. The results, obtained from consumption costs, show that the developed platform is characterized by security, availability, and privacy.

E-Adoption of Emerging Technology in the Health Sector During COVID-19

In the 21st century, COVID-19 made a profound impact on the world. This pandemic had a detrimental impact worldwide, causing massive economic damage and enormous mortality. Emerging technologies play an essential role in every sector, and the health sector is not exceptional in this line. This paper examines the health sector before, during, and after the COVID-19 era by taking a view of emerging technologies. Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, IoT, learning paradigms, blockchain, and others are emerging technologies. E-adoption of these technologies becomes important to face critical situations during COVID-19. Using these technologies, it is possible to care for and monitor remote patients by keeping medical record management. This study includes a brief examination of similar work. In addition, the impact of e-adoption on health sector is discussed in this research. Furthermore, this study suggested a paradigm for comprehending the application of developing technologies to manage and overcome the health sector's burden. Finally, research is concluded with remarks on the future.

ResNet-50 for 12-Lead Electrocardiogram Automated Diagnosis

Nowadays, the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medical diagnosis has attracted major attention within both the academic literature and industrial sector. AI would include deep learning (DL) models, where these models have been achieving a spectacular performance in healthcare applications. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2020 there were around 25.6 million people who died from cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Thus, this paper aims to shad the light on cardiology since it is widely considered as one of the most important in medicine field. The paper develops an efficient DL model for automatic diagnosis of 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) signals with 27 classes, including 26 types of CVD and a normal sinus rhythm. The proposed model consists of Residual Neural Network (ResNet-50). An experimental work has been conducted using combined public databases from the USA, China, and Germany as a proof-of-concept. Simulation results of the proposed model have achieved an accuracy of 97.63% and a precision of 89.67%. The achieved results are validated against the actual values in the recent literature.

Coupling multifunction drones with AI in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic

When COVID-19 was declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization on 11 March 2020, national governments and health authorities across the world begun considering different preventive measures to fight against the coronavirus outbreak. Researchers and tech companies worldwide have been striving to utilize advanced technologies to aid in the fight against the Covid-19 outbreak. This paper aims to couple multifunction drone with AI to deliver wireless services that will help the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. The proposed drone-eye-system with its thermal imaging cameras and an AI framework utilizes a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with its Modified Artificial Neural Network (MANN) for face mask detection of people wearing masks in public. The system can perform basic diagnostic functions such as elevated body temperatures for helping minimize the risk of spreading the infection through close contact.
