Abstract
Objective To identify the association between the changes in intestinal microflora and renal function in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF). Methods This retrospective case-control study included 50 patients with CRF (study group), admitted to the Clinical Laboratory Department of Shenzhen People's Hospital from March 2021 to May 2022, and 50 healthy individuals (control group). The association between the distribution of intestinal microflora and the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), levels of serum creatinine (SCr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and serum cystatin C (CysC) were analyzed. Results Intestinal microflora of CRF patients had significantly higher levels of Enterococci compared to the control group (p-Value <0.05), while the levels of Bifidobacterium spp. and Escherichia coli were lower in the study group (p-Value <0.05). GFR was lower, and the levels of BUN, SCr, and CysC were higher in the study group compared to the control group (all p-Value <0.05). GFR, BUN, SCr and CysC levels in the study group negatively correlated with the levels of Bifidobacterium spp. and Lactobacillus spp. (r<0, P<0.05), and positively correlated with the abundance of Enterococcus spp. and Escherichia coli (r>0, P<0.05) in the intestinal microflora. Conclusions Changes in intestinal microbiota are associated with a significant decrease in GFR and a marked increase in serum levels of renal function indicators, and alterations in the balance of intestinal microbiota may lead to further aggravation of the renal function damage in patients with CRF.

Abstract
Lung cancer is one of the commonest malignant tumors in the world today, causing millions of mortalities every year. New methods to treat lung cancer are urgently needed. Salviae miltiorrhiza Bunge is a common Chinese medicine, often used for promoting blood circulation. In the past 20 years, Salviae miltiorrhiza has made significant progress in the treatment of lung cancer and is considered to be one of the most promising methods to fight against the disease. A great amount of research has shown that the mechanism of Salviae miltiorrhiza against human lung cancer mainly includes inhibiting the proliferation of lung cancer cells, promoting lung cancer cell apoptosis, inducing cell autophagy, regulating immunity and resisting angiogenesis. Research has shown that Salviae miltiorrhiza has certain effects on the resistance to chemotherapy drugs. The present review discussed the status and prospects of Salviae miltiorrhiza against human lung cancer.

Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study is to establish a suitable animal model of chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) by comparing CKD-MBD rat models induced by 5/6 Nx, AN, and UUO, accompanied by a low-calcium and high-phosphorus diet. Methods: Sprague‒Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: control group, 5/6 nephrectomy (5/6 Nx) group, Adriamycin nephropathy (AN) group, and unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) group. Serum biochemical indices were measured to evaluate renal function, mineral and bone metabolism, the severity of CKD-MBD, and the status of bone transformation. Hematoxylin-eosin staining (HE) and Masson's trichrome (Masson) staining were used for histopathological analysis of the kidney. Goldner's trichrome (Goldner) and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining were utilized to observe bone mineralization and osteoclasts in the femur, respectively. Micro-CT images were applied to study the structure of the femur. The expression levels of osterix and cathepsin K in the femur were measured by immunohistochemistry (IHC) to confirm the status of bone transformation. Results: The levels of serum creatinine (Scr) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) in the 5/6 Nx and AN group rats were significantly higher than those in the control rats, and this change was accompanied by marked changes in the levels of calcium (Ca), phosphate (Pi), intact parathyroid hormone (i-PTH), fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), osteocalcin (OC), and cross-linked C-telopeptide of type 1 collagen (CTX-1); UUO group rats exhibited slight and inconsistent variations in the levels of Scr, BUN, Ca, Pi, i-PTH, FGF23, OC, and CTX-1 in serum. Histopathological analysis of the kidney showed that the UUO group rats suffered serious fibrosis and 5/6 Nx group rats exhibited severe focal calcification. Histopathological analysis of the femur showed that the AN group rats had minimal bone mineralization and that the 5/6 Nx group rats had overactive osteoclasts. Micro-CT revealed that the AN model had the most severe bone destruction and that the 5/6 Nx model had the least severe bone loss among the three models. The expression of cathepsin K in the femur was significantly increased in all models, while the expression of osterix in the femur was only significantly increased in the 5/6 Nx model. Conclusion: 5/6 Nx, AN, and UUO accompanied by a low-calcium and high-phosphorus diet successfully induced CKD-MBD in rats. The 5/6 NX model presented the progression of high-turnover bone disease, with consistency between biochemical indices in serum and histomorphometric analysis of the femur, and the AN and UUO models developed a severe deterioration in bone quantity and severe bone resorption; however, the changes in biochemical indices were subtle in the UUO model, and liver injury was obvious in the AN model.

Abstract
Background: The treatment of hypertensive nephropathy has remained unchanged for many years. Salvianolate is the main active component extracted from Salvia Miltiorrhiza. The current studies seem to suggest that salvianolate has a certain therapeutic effect on hypertensive nephropathy. Objective: The purpose of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the effect and safety of salvianolate on hypertensive nephropathy under the condition of standardized use of valsartan. Methods: We conducted a systematic search (unlimited initial date to 22 October 2022) in PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data knowledge service platform, China Science and Technology Journal Database, China Biomedical Literature Service System. Searching for the study of salvianolate on hypertensive nephropathy. Two reviewers independently included the study that met the inclusion criteria, and extracted data, evaluated the quality of the study. We use RevMan5.4 and stata15 software for this meta-analysis. We use GRADEprofiler 3.2.2 software for evidence quality assessment. Results: This meta-analysis included seven studies (525 patients). Compared with the use of valsartan combined with conventional treatment, salvianolate combined with valsartan and conventional treatment can further improve the efficacy (RR = 1.28, 95%CI:1.17 to 1.39), reduce blood pressure [systolic blood pressure (MD = 8.98, 95%CI:-12.38 to -5.59); diastolic blood pressure (MD = 5.74, 95%CI:-7.20 to -4.29)], serum creatinine (MD = -17.32, 95%CI:-20.55 to -14.10), blood urea nitrogen (MD = -1.89, 95%CI:-3.76 to -0.01), urine microalbumin (MD = -23.90, 95%CI:-26.54 to -21.26), and urinary protein to creatinine ratio (MD = -1.92, 95%CI:-2.15 to -1.69), cystatin C (MD = -1.04, 95%CI: -1.63 to -0.45) and increase calcitonin gene-related peptide (MD = 18.68, 95%CI:12.89 to 24.46) without increasing adverse reactions (RR = 2.20, 95%CI:0.52 to 9.40). But it has no additional effect on endothelin-1 and malondialdehyde. The quality of evidence ranged from moderate to very low. Conclusion: This meta-analysis shows that the salvianolate can further improve renal function of hypertensive nephropathy patients based on valsartan was used. Therefore, salvianolate can be used as a clinical supplement for hypertensive nephropathy. However, the quality of the evidence is not high due to the uneven quality of the included studies and the insufficient sample size, we still need a lot of large sample size studies with more perfect design to confirm these results. Abstract
Placenta-mediated pregnancy complications (PMPCs), including preeclampsia (PE), fetal growth restriction (FGR), and recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA), occur in approximately 5% of pregnancies and are caused by abnormal placenta development. The development of effective therapies for PMPCs is still challenging due to the complicated pathogenesis, such as disrupted vascular homeostasis and subsequent abnormal placentation. Synthetic drugs have been recommended for treating PMPCs; however, they tend to cause adverse reactions in the mother and fetus. Salvia miltiorrhiza (S. miltiorrhiza) has potential effects on PMPCs owing to its advantages in treating cardiovascular disorders. S. miltiorrhiza and its active compounds could attenuate the symptoms of PMPCs through anticoagulation, vasodilation, antioxidation, and endothelial protection. Thus, in this review, we summarize the literature and provide comprehensive insights on S. miltiorrhiza and its phytochemical constituents, pharmacological activities, and on PMPCs, which would be valuable to explore promising drugs.
