Nanoparticle aggregation and electro-osmotic propulsion in peristaltic transport of third-grade nanofluids through porous tube

In the modern era, the utilization of electro-kinetic-driven microfluidic pumping procedures spans various biomedical and physiological domains. The present study introduces a mathematical framework for characterizing the hemodynamics of peristaltic blood flow within a porous tube infused with ZrO2 nanoparticles. This model delves into the interactions between buoyancy, electro-osmotic forces, and aggregated nanoparticles to discern their influence on blood flow. We employ a third-grade fluid model to elucidate the rheological behavior of the pseudoplastic fluid which refers to its response to applied shear stress, specifically the relationship between shear rate and viscosity. The collective influence of accommodating heat convection, joule heating and aggregated nanoparticles contributes to the thermal behavior of fluids. The distribution of electric potential within the electric double layer (EDL) is predicted by solving the Poisson-Boltzmann equation. The rescaled equations are simplified using the lubrication and Debye-Hückel models as the underlying frameworks. The novel homotopy perturbation method is employed to obtain solutions for the finalized non-linear partial differential equation. Theoretical assessment of hemodynamic impacts involves plotting graphical configurations for various emerging parameters. As electro-osmotic parameter increase, the bloodstream encounters greater impedance, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of electro-osmotic assistance. Concurrently, elevated convective heat markedly reduces the rate of heat transfer, potentially resulting in a drop in blood temperature. It is important to note that maximum shear stress occurs when the artery is positioned horizontally, underscoring the significant impact of arterial alignment on wall shear stress. Skin friction intensifies with the increasing wall permeability as aggregated nanofluids pass through the arterial conduit. Therefore, aggregation of nanoparticles into the bloodstream yields a broader spectrum of distinctive physiological features. In summary, these findings enable more effective tool and device designs for addressing medication administration challenges and electro-therapies.

Nanoparticles assisted intra and transdermic delivery of antifungal ointment: an updated review

This review paper highlights the trans-dermic delivery of nanoparticles (NPs) based antifungal ointments with the help of nanotechnology. It also describes the novel trans-dermal approach utilizing various nanoparticles which enables an efficient delivery to the target site. This current review gives an overview about past research and developments as well as the current nanoparticle-based ointments. This review also presents data regarding types, causes of infection, and different pathogens within their infection site. It also gives information about antifungal ointments with their activity and side effects of antifungal medicines. Additionally, this review also focuses on the future aspects of the topical administration of nanoparticle-based antifungal ointments. These nanoparticles can encapsulate multiple antifungal drugs as a combination therapy targeting different aspects of fungal infection. Nanoparticles can be designed in such a way that they can specifically target fungal cells and do not affect healthy cells. Nanoparticle based antifungal ointments exhibit outstanding potential to treat fungal diseases. As further research and advancements evolve in nanotechnology, we expect more development of nanoparticle-based antifungal formulations shortly. This paper discusses all the past and future applications, recent trends, and developments in the various field and also shows its bright prospective in the upcoming years.

Electrospun PCL Wires Loaded with Vancomycin on Zirconium Substrate

The current study presents research about electrodeposition in relation to electrospinning PCL wires on a Zr substrate and loading the coating with vancomycin. The structural composition of the coatings was investigated via FT-IR analysis. The morphology evaluated using scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, for the composition (SEM-EDS), evidenced the presence of the polymer wires, with and without drug vancomycin loading. The wettability of the coatings was evaluated from the hydrophobic-hydrophilic point of view, and the characterization was completed with mechanical and electrochemical tests. All the electrochemical tests performed in simulated body fluid highlighted that PCL represents a barrier against corrosion processes. The quantitative method to evaluate the loading efficiency shows that almost 80% of the total loaded vancomycin is released within 144 h; after the initial burst at 24 h, a steady release of vancomycin is observed over 7 days. A kinetic model of the drug release was also constructed.

Accurate Detection for Zirconium Sheet Surface Scratches Based on Visible Light Images

Zirconium sheet has been widely used in various fields, e.g., chemistry and aerospace. The surface scratches on the zirconium sheets caused by complex processing environment have a negative impact on the performance, e.g., working life and fatigue fracture resistance. Therefore, it is necessary to detect the defect of zirconium sheets. However, it is difficult to detect such scratch images due to lots of scattered additive noise and complex interlaced structural texture. Hence, we propose a framework for adaptively detecting scratches on the surface images of zirconium sheets, including noise removing and texture suppressing. First, the noise removal algorithm, i.e., an optimized threshold function based on dual-tree complex wavelet transform, uses selected parameters to remove scattered and numerous noise. Second, the texture suppression algorithm, i.e., an optimized relative total variation enhancement model, employs selected parameters to suppress interlaced texture. Finally, by connecting disconnection based on two types of connection algorithms and replacing the Gaussian filter in the standard Canny edge detection algorithm with our proposed framework, we can more robustly detect the scratches. The experimental results show that the proposed framework is of higher accuracy.

Biomedical Applications of Zirconia-Based Nanomaterials: Challenges and Future Perspectives

ZrO₂ nanoparticles have received substantially increased attention in every field of life owing to their wide range of applications. Zirconium oxide is a commercially economical, non-hazardous, and sustainable metal oxide having diversified potential applications. ZrO₂ NPs play a vast role in the domain of medicine and pharmacy such as anticancer, antibacterial, and antioxidant agents and tissue engineering owing to their reliable curative biomedical applications. In this review article, we address all of the medical and biomedical applications of ZrO₂ NPs prepared through various approaches in a critical way. ZrO₂ is a bio-ceramic substance that has received increased attention in biomimetic scaffolds owing to its high mechanical strength, excellent biocompatibility, and high chemical stability. ZrO₂ NPs have demonstrated potential anticancer activity against various cancer cells. ZrO₂-based nanomaterials have exhibited potential antibacterial activity against various bacterial strains and have also demonstrated excellent antioxidant activity. The ZrO₂ nanocomposite also exhibits highly sensitive biosensing activity toward the sensing of glucose and other biological species.

Advances of plant and biomass extracted zirconium nanoparticles in dental implant application

Nanoparticles are minimal materials with unique physicochemical features that set them apart from bulk materials of the same composition. These properties make nanoparticles highly desirable for use in commercial and medical research. The primary intention for the development of nanotechnology is to achieve overarching social objectives like bettering our understanding of nature, boosting productivity, improving healthcare, and extending the bounds of sustainable development and human potential. Keeping this as a motivation, Zirconia nanoparticles are becoming the preferred nanostructure for modern biomedical applications. This nanotechnology is exceptionally versatile and has several potential uses in dental research. This review paper concentrated on the various benefits of zirconium nanoparticles in dentistry and how they provide superior strength and flexibility compared to their counterparts. Moreover, the popularity of zirconium nanoparticles is also growing as it has strong biocompatibility potency. Zirconium nanoparticles can be used to develop or address the major difficulty in dentistry. Therefore, this review paper aims to provide a summary of the fundamental research and applications of zirconium nanoparticles in dental implants.
