Abstract
AIM: To investigate clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine compound in patients with liver cirrhosis and ascites.
METHODS: A prospective study was performed from April 2010 to April 2014, and patients with liver cirrhosis and ascites admitted to our hospital were included. A total of 134 patients were randomly divided into either an observation group (n = 67) or a control group (n = 67). The observation group were treated with traditional Chinese medicine compound (recipe for liver cirrhosis associated ascites), and the control group received routine clinical treatment. Serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), glucose (GLU), serum ascites albumin gradient (SAAG) and clinical efficacy were compared between the two groups of patients before and after treatment.
RESULTS: The total effective rate was significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group (91.04% vs 77.61%, P < 0.05). LDH, GLU, SAAG levels were significantly improved after treatment in both groups (P < 0.05), and the improvement of GLU and SAAG was more significant in the observation group than in the control group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION: Traditional Chinese medicine compound can effectively improve clinical efficacy and LDH, GLU, and SAAG levels in patients with cirrhosis and ascites.
