Abstract
Background/Objectives: At present, a large number of bioactive peptides have been found from plant sources with potential applications for the prevention of chronic diseases. By promoting plant-derived bioactive peptides (PDBPs), we can reduce dependence on animals, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and protect the ecological environment. Methods: In this review, we summarize recent advances in sustainably sourced PDBPs in terms of preparation methods, biological activity, structure-activity relationships, and their use in chronic diseases. Results: Firstly, the current preparation methods of PDBPs were summarized, and the advantages and disadvantages of enzymatic method and microbial fermentation method were introduced. Secondly, the biological activities of PDBPs that have been explored are summarized, including antioxidant, antibacterial, anticancer and antihypertensive activities. Finally, based on the biological activity, the structure-activity relationship of PDBPs and its application in chronic diseases were discussed. All these provide the foundation for the development of PDBPs. However, the study of PDBPs still has some limitations. Conclusions: Overall, PDBPs is a good candidate for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases in humans. This work provides important information for exploring the source of PDBPs, optimizing its biological activity, and accurately designing functional foods or drugs.

Abstract
Chronic wound treatments pose a challenge for healthcare worldwide, particularly for the people in developed countries. Chronic wounds significantly impair quality of life, especially among the elderly. Current research is devoted to novel approaches to wound care by repositioning cardiovascular agents for topical wound treatment. The emerging field of medicinal products' repurposing, which involves redirecting existing pharmaceuticals to new therapeutic uses, is a promising strategy. Recent studies suggest that medicinal products such as sartans, beta-blockers, and statins have unexplored potential, exhibiting multifaceted pharmacological properties that extend beyond their primary indications. The purpose of this review is to analyze the current state of knowledge on the repositioning of cardiovascular agents' use and their molecular mechanisms in the context of wound healing.

Abstract
There is a growing trend among consumers to seek out natural foods and products with natural ingredients. This shift in consumer preferences had a direct impact on both food and pharmaceutical industries, leading to a focus of scientific research and commercial efforts to meet these new demands. The aim of this work is to review recent available scientific data on foods of interest, such as the artichoke, gooseberry, and polygonoideae plants, as well as olive oil and red raspberries. Interestingly, the urgency of solutions to the climate change emergency has brought new attention to by-products of grapevine bunch stem and cane, which have been found to contain bioactive compounds with potential health benefits. There is a pressing need for a faster process of translating scientific knowledge from the laboratory to real-world applications, especially in the face of the increasing societal burden associated with non-communicable diseases (NCDs), environmental crises, the post-pandemic world, and ongoing violent conflicts around the world.

Abstract
The link between chronic inflammation and cancer development is well acknowledged. Inflammatory bowel disease including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease frequently promotes colon cancer development. Thus, control of intestinal inflammation is a therapeutic strategy to prevent and manage colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CRC). Recently, gut mucosal damage-associated molecular patterns S100A8 and S100A9, acting via interactions with their pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), especially TLR4 and RAGE, have emerged as key players in the pathogenesis of colonic inflammation. We found elevated serum levels of S100A8 and S100A9 in both colitis and colitis-associated CRC mouse models along with significant increases in their binding with PRR, TLR4, and RAGE. In this study we developed a dual PRR-inhibiting peptide system (rCT-S100A8/A9) that consisted of TLR4- and RAGE-inhibiting motifs derived from S100A8 and S100A9, and conjugated with a CT peptide (TWYKIAFQRNRK) for colon-specific delivery. In human monocyte THP-1 and mouse BMDMs, S100A8/A9-derived peptide comprising TLR4- and RAGE-interacting motif (0.01, 0.1, 1 μM) dose-dependently inhibited the binding of S100 to TLR4 or RAGE, and effectively inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome activation. We demonstrated that rCT-S100A8/A9 had appropriate drug-like properties including in vitro stabilities and PK properties as well as pharmacological activities. In mouse models of DSS-induced acute and chronic colitis, injection of rCT-S100A8/A9 (50 μg·kg-1·d-1, i.p. for certain consecutive days) significantly increased the survival rates and alleviated the pathological injuries of the colon. In AOM/DSS-induced colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CAC) mouse model, injection of rCT-S100A8/A9 (50 μg·kg-1·d-1, i.p.) increased the body weight, decreased tumor burden in the distal colon, and significantly alleviated histological colonic damage. In mice bearing oxaliplatin-resistant CRC xenografts, injection of rCT-S100A8/A9 (20 μg/kg, i.p., every 3 days for 24-30 days) significantly inhibited the tumor growth with reduced EMT-associated markers in tumor tissues. Our results demonstrate that targeting the S100-PRR axis improves colonic inflammation and thus highlight this axis as a potential therapeutic target for colitis and CRC.

Abstract
Objetivo: Analizar la asociación entre el uso de polifarmacia y la calidad de vida de personas con lesiones cutáneas crónicas. Método: Estudio transversal con una muestra conformada por 146 personas afectadas por lesiones cutáneas crónicas, vinculadas con la atención primaria de salud. La recolección de datos se realizó entre julio de 2017 y febrero de 2018. La información se recopiló mediante un cuestionario sociodemográfico y el cuestionario Cardiff Wound Impact Schedule (CWIS). Resultados: Hubo predominio de hipertensión arterial sistémica en 86 personas (58,9%) y de diabetes mellitus en 50 (34,2%). La etiología de la lesión cutánea predominante fue vasculogénica (38,4%), y se identificó polifarmacia en el 46,7% de los pacientes. En el cuestionario CWIS, el dominio con el puntaje promedio más bajo fue el bienestar (promedio de 46,2±17,9). Hubo asociación estadísticamente significativa (p<0.05) entre polifarmacia y las siguientes variables: dominio de “síntomas físicos/vida diaria", dominio de “vida social” y “autosatisfacción con la calidad de vida". Conclusión: La polifarmacia está asociada con un detrimento en la calidad de vida de personas con lesiones cutáneas crónicas. Por lo tanto, los profesionales de la salud que trabajan en la atención primaria deberían considerar la terapia farmacológica en sus planes de atención, coordinar con asistencia médica y farmacéutica la elaboración de estrategias de monitoreo de los riesgos que involucran la polifarmacia, y evaluar sus impactos en la calidad de vida. Abstract
Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) are commonly used for cardiovascular diseases, especially for patients who can't tolerate the side effects of cough and angioedema caused by angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs). However, the evidence of using ARBs in dermatology is mostly anecdotal and limited to case reports or small case series. Here we present a narrative review focusing on the therapeutic use of ARBs in dermatology and adverse cutaneous reactions due to the administration of ARBs.

Abstract
Hypertension remains the leading preventable risk factor for stroke and coronary artery disease, significantly contributing to all-cause global mortality and predisposing patients to renal and heart failure, as well as peripheral vascular disease. Due to the widespread usage of antihypertensive drugs, global mean blood pressure has remained unchanged or even slightly decreased over the past four decades. However, considering the broad spectrum of mechanisms involved in the action of antihypertensive drugs and the prevalence of their target receptors on immune cells, possible immunomodulatory effects which may exert beneficial effects of lowering blood pressure but also potentially alter immune function should be considered. In this review, we attempt to assess the consequences to immune system function of administering the five most commonly prescribed groups of antihypertensive drugs and to explain the mechanisms behind those interactions. Finally, we show potential gaps in our understanding of the effects of antihypertensive drugs on patient health. With regard to the widespread use of these drugs in the adult population worldwide, the discussed results may be of vital importance to evidence-based decision-making in daily clinical practice.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Reconstructing sebaceous glands is one goal of functionally healing patients who have suffered severe burns, instead of the simple pursuit of wound closure. Effective regeneration of skin appendages remains a challenge in skin wound management and research. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the differentiation of ADSC into sebaceous glands, and clarified the involvement of HGF and 5α-DHT in this process. METHODS This study used hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)- and 5α-dihydrotestosterone (5α-DHT)-gelatin microspheres to treat human adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) and investigated the reconstruction of sebaceous glands. HGF- and 5α-DHT-gelatin microspheres were constructed using microcapsule slow-release technology. Mice full-thickness skin-wound model was established to evaluate wound healing and hematoxylin-eosin staining was utilized to determine the skin structure. RESULTS In vitro analyses found that HGF- and 5α-DHT-gelatin microspheres promoted migration of and tube formation by ADSCs. Furthermore, AKT/ERK signaling, which is related to sebocyte and sweat gland epithelial cell growth, were activated after HGF and 5α-DHT treatment. An in vivo wound healing model demonstrated that ADSCs primed with amnion-loaded HGF- and 5α-DHT-gelatin microspheres promoted wound healing and increased sebaceous gland formation compared to the control group. CONCLUSIONS This study confirms the efficacy of ADSCs treated with amnion and HGF- and 5α-DHT-gelatin microspheres in accelerating wound healing and effectively restoring sebaceous glands. This engineered tissue provides insight into and a novel therapeutic material for burns and full-thickness skin wounds.¬¬.

Abstract
Background Experimental studies have reported that angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) increase the risk of surgical complications. However, clinical data on their effect on surgical outcomes are limited. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of perioperative use of ARBs on the outcomes of breast reconstruction using population-based claim data. Methods Data of patients who underwent direct-to-implant or abdomen-based autologous breast reconstruction after total mastectomy from April 2015 to December 2018 were obtained from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database. The patients were categorized as ARB, non-ARB, control, and non-hypertension groups. The effects of ARBs on surgical complications, length of hospital stay, and complication-related medical costs were evaluated. Results Of the 9,036 patients who met the inclusion criteria, 5,192 underwent direct-to-implant reconstruction, and 3,844 underwent abdomen-based autologous reconstruction. The length of hospital stay was the longest and the surgical complication rate and complication-related medical cost were the highest in the ARB group after both reconstruction methods. Compared with non-treatment with antihypertensive drugs, ARB use was found to be an independent risk factor for surgical complications in direct-to-implant reconstruction [odds ratio (OR), 1.96; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.09-3.50; P=0.0237] and complication-related medical cost (OR, 1.93; 95% CI, 1.10-3.40; P=0.0221) in abdomen-based autologous reconstruction. Conclusions Perioperative ARB use was associated with adverse postoperative breast reconstruction outcomes. These findings might have a significant impact on perioperative antihypertensive management; nevertheless, further studies are warranted to confirm the study findings.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has positive effects on wound healing and antimicrobial properties. However, an ongoing challenge is the development of specific modes of application for different clinical indications. OBJECTIVES We investigated in a prospective pilot study the response and tolerability of a newly developed CAP wound dressing for the acute healing of split skin graft donor sites compared to conventional therapy. METHODS We applied both treatments to each patient (n = 10) for 7 days and measured 4 parameters of wound healing every other day (i.e., 1,440 measurements) using a hyperspectral imaging camera. Additionally, we evaluated the clinical appearance and pain levels reported by the patients. RESULTS The CAP wound dressing was superior to the control (p < 0.001) in the improvement of 3 wound parameters, that is, deep tissue oxygen saturation, hemoglobin distribution, and tissue water distribution. CAP was well tolerated, and pain levels were lower in CAP-treated wound areas. CONCLUSION CAP wound dressing is a promising new tool for acute wound healing.

Abstract
Some micronutrients of vegetable origin are considered potentially useful as wound-healing agents because they can increase fibroblast proliferation and differentiation. THE AIM OF THIS STUDY was to evaluate the regenerative effects of selected olive oil phenolic compounds on cultured human fibroblasts and explore their antimicrobial properties. MATERIAL AND METHODS The CCD-1064Sk fibroblast line was treated for 24 h with 10-6M luteolin, apigenin, ferulic, coumaric acid or caffeic acid, evaluating the effects on cell proliferation by using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) spectrophotometric assay; the migratory capacity by the scratch assay and determining the expression of Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF), Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), Transforming Growth Factor- β1 (TGFβ1), Platelet Derived Growth Factor (PDGF), and Collagen Type I (COL-I) genes by real-time polymerase chain reaction. The antimicrobial capacity of the polyphenols was evaluated by the disc diffusion method. RESULTS All compounds except for ferulic acid significantly stimulated the proliferative capacity of fibroblasts, increasing their migration and their expression of the aforementioned genes. With respect to their antimicrobial properties, treatment with the studied compounds inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Proteus spp., and Candida Albicans. CONCLUSIONS The phenolic compounds in olive oil have a biostimulatory effect on the regeneration capacity, differentiation, and migration of fibroblasts and exert major antibacterial activity. According to the present findings, these compounds may have a strong therapeutic effect on wound recovery.

Abstract
Amlodipine-induced toxicity has detrimental effects on cardiac cells. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of lipid emulsion on decreased H9c2 rat cardiomyoblast viability induced by amlodipine toxicity. The effects of amlodipine, lipid emulsion, LY 294002, and glibenclamide, either alone or in combination, on cell viability and count, apoptosis, and expression of cleaved caspase-3 and -8, and Bax were examined. LY 294002 and glibenclamide partially reversed lipid emulsion-mediated attenuation of decreased cell viability and count induced by amlodipine. Amlodipine increased caspase-3 and -8 expression, but it did not alter Bax expression. LY 294002 and glibenclamide reversed lipid emulsion-mediated inhibition of cleaved caspase-3 and -8 expression induced by amlodipine. Lipid emulsion inhibited early and late apoptosis induced by amlodipine. LY 294002 and glibenclamide inhibited lipid emulsion-mediated inhibition of late apoptosis induced by amlodipine, but they did not significantly alter lipid emulsion-mediated inhibition of early apoptosis induced by amlodipine. Lipid emulsion decreased amlodipine-induced TUNEL-positive cells. These results suggest that lipid emulsion inhibits late apoptosis induced by amlodipine at toxic dose via the activation of phosphoinositide-3 kinase and ATP-sensitive potassium channels in the extrinsic apoptotic pathway.

Abstract
Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc.) bark is a by-product of the wood industry and contains a high level of antioxidative phenolics including flavonoids, which have a variety of beneficial health effects. This study aimed to investigate the antihypertensive effects of P. densiflora bark extract (Korean red pine bark extract; KRPBE) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). A group of Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKRs) as a normotensive group was orally fed tap water. Four groups of SHRs were orally fed tap water, captopril (a positive control), 50 mg/kg/day of KRPBE, and 150 mg/kg/day of KRPBE, respectively. Blood pressure of rats was measured once every week for seven weeks of oral administration. After seven weeks, the lungs, kidneys, and serum were collected from rats, then angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity, angiotensin II content, and malondialdehyde (MDA) content were determined. Blood pressure of the captopril- and KRPBE-treated groups was significantly lower than that of the SHR control group. The ACE activity, angiotensin II content, and MDA content significantly decreased in the captopril- and KRPBE-treated groups than those in the SHR control group. High-performance liquid chromatography analysis revealed six phenolics in KRPBE: protocatechuic acid, procyanidin B1, catechin, caffeic acid, vanillin, and taxifolin. KRPBE, which contains plenty of antioxidative phenolics, has antihypertensive effects partly due to reduction of ACE activity and angiotensin II content, and its antioxidative effect.
